Did Mike Hilton make the team with another solid perfomance yesterday?  Can both he and Allen make it?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:16
I don't think both can make it. Allen on outside looking in right now in my opinion.

12:16
Will Ben and AB get any game reps next week?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:17
Yes I think they'll both play vs. the Colts on Saturday. That'll probably be it for the preseason. Tomlin never plays his starters in the preseason finale. If he does it's for a series and then he gets them out.

Maxey seems like a good fit, what are his chances of making the 53?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:17
I think Maxey probably goes back to the practice squad unless the Steelers decide to cut Daniel McCullers.

Can a player really improve his hands/catching ability?  Seems like you either have great hands, or you don't?  Sorry to the maker of the Jugs machine.....
Ray Fittipaldo
12:19
I think the JUGS machine and coaches can help in that regard. Richard Mann said Martavis Bryant improved a lot with his ability to catch after he had a ton of drops at Clemson.

If Golson were to be cut, would he become a free agent or, assuming he was picked up by another team, would he continue to serve out his rookie contract?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:20
If he cleared waivers he'd be free to sign with any team or practice squad. Don't discount the Steelers trying to get him on their practice squad.

Can we expect the Steelers to do any better against the Patriots this year with such a weak secondary?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:21
Probably not unless Cam Sutton or Golson comes around.

Your "gut" feeling about this team after the camp & 1st 2 pre-season games...better than you had expected or worse?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:22
Gut feeling tells me they're the second best team in the AFC behind New England, but that performance by the first-team defense yesterday was disheartening.

Ray , what positives did you see in from the DB's with pass coverage ? and who played well at CB/ S.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:22
Jordan Dangerfield had two INTs against the Falcons scrubs. I suppose that was a positive.

Hi Ray, thanks for your time.  So the  coaches use the pre-season to evaluate players, I know he's a veteran but what does this say about Ross Cockrell?  I know its just one game, but they already have reservations about him coming into this season.  Is the search for another CB ramped up now? Thank you Sir.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:25
It was only one game, but your point is well taken. They made it known this spring they didn't necessarily view him as a long-term starter when they offered him the lowest possible tender in restricted free agency.

Hi Ray. What did you think of Al´s Villanueva play yesterday? I thought he missed some blocks in the begging of the game. I think the o-line is as important as any part of the team or even more so...
Ray Fittipaldo
12:26
Yeah he gave up a sack on that first series. Still some work to do.
Brandon
12:26
Where was Dupree yesterday??
Ray Fittipaldo
12:26
Sat as a precaution

12:27
There's been a lot of things written that Brian Allen is ahead of the curve. Do they fit him on the 53 man? -if not, does he clear waivers for the PS?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:27
Allen has one year of college experience at CB. It's my opinion the team that picked him up would have to be pretty desperate to sign him sight unseen.
Hopeful
12:28
Against the Falcs 1-2 qb's D was terrible. same as vs Pats. MT has yet to build a SB D calibre D. What now?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:28
Hope Cam Sutton is ready soon. Golson too. Any competition is needed.
John
12:28
Was the Severin cut more about the depth at the position and the needed spot on the roster, or was he really the worst of the bunch?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
He failed the conditioning test and then had a drop or two in the Giants game. He wasn't going to make this roster anyway.

Ray, what exactly are the requirements for a player to be eligible for the practice squad, and is S. golson a candidate?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
Too long to list, but yes Golson is eligible.
AJ
12:29
Any updates on Sutton? Because I am living in my fears after watching the secondary vs Atlanta
Ray Fittipaldo
12:30
He practiced some last week, but he was limited. I'm guessing he'll take some contact this week. If he doesn't then there really isn't much hope for help anytime soon. He has to start practicing and playing in games if the coaches are going to evaluate him.

Ray, The 1st team defense looked like the one we saw in NE in AFCCG. It seems our defensive philosophy has been to allow receivers to catch the ball then tackle right away. Could we, should we, see a more aggressive approach and play the ball moreinstead of the man?  I see No ball hawking!
Ray Fittipaldo
12:31
The ball hawkers are injured. No one wants to see Will Gay play in man coverage. Or Ross Cockrell for that matter after the Falcons game.

Hello Ray, enjoy the chats a lot and get most of my info from here and a couple of other columnists. Thanks for your insights. My question, in days gone by it was catching the coaches eye, now it seems to be stats and analytics...is there any way to prove one system over another?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:32
No, they're used in conjunction. Front offices and coaching staffs make decisions with all the information they have at their disposal.

Do we have any promising corners on this team besides Artie Burns? I'm not so sure...
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
At the moment? No. But we haven't seen what Sutton can do yet.

12:33
What key defensive players are flirting with missing regular season games due to injury?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
Big week for Shazier, Dupree and Mitchell. I'll be concerned if they don't play this week.
