I don't think they'll cut Gay. Cockrell is interesting because he hasn't had a good camp, but that would still be somewhat of a surprise. He started the first three preseason games.

The competition for roster spots at RB has become almost as difficult as WR.  What's your best guess at the hierarchy at RB as of today?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:46
Bell, Conner, Davis, Toussaint, Watson, but Watson trending upward.

Why did Sensabaugh get cut by the Rams last year? Media reports were very vague on the subject, and its an interesting story considering he may end up starting opposite Burns...
Ray Fittipaldo
12:48
Sometimes players and teams just aren't good fits. Sensabaugh has done well with the Steelers because he spent five years in a similar defense in Tennessee under Ray Horton and Dick LeBeau, two former Steelers coaches. When he arrived he picked the defense up right away because it was familiar. Don't know the ins and outs of what happened in L.A., but I would imagine it had something to do with the defense and his strengths weren't a good match.

Ray, now that KC's Spencer Ware is out for the season, do you see the Steelers possibly shopping Knile Davis back to the Chiefs for a draft pick or possibly a DB? They seemed to feature KD quite a bit on Saturday.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:48
The Chiefs traded him away last year and then reacquired him, but they didn't want to sigh him after the season ended. I would imagine that ship has sailed.

Any Steeler fan worth their salt could have told you the Steelers were in trouble with their secondary after last year. How could we not have done more to get a quality veteran or two to help? We are in serious trouble again with no help in sight! Just frustrating, rookies aren't going to help this year.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
Well, they did sign Sensabaugh and he's an option to start over Cockrell. And they drafted Sutton, who just came back from an injury that kept him out of most of camp. So they did address it. Maybe not to your expectations, but they didn't ignore the needs.

Do you think Cockrell will be realeased?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
Doubt it, but I do admit it's a possibility with the way he has played.
KJ
12:50
Do you feel as though both Cobi Hamilton and Sammie Coates are playing their way off the Steelers' 53-man roster? I see the Steelers keeping the following 6 WRs: AB, Bryant, JuJu, Rogers, DHB, & Hunter. What do you say?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:51
I have Coates over DHB, but we agree for the most part. I'm cutting DHB because I think he's had a very average camp, but I know they like him for their special teams units.

Is chickillo our best pass rusher?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:52
I hope not. He's not a starter.

With the rookie starting at QB in Cleveland, doesn't it make sense to go with Hilton and Sensabaugh rather than Cockrell and Gay? The risk is less against a rookie if the concern is they don't fully know what they have with Hilton and Sensabaugh. Plus Hilton and Sensabaugh need to mesh with the rest of the 1st team D. They already know the ceiling of Cockrell and Gay with 1st team D.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
They can afford to play zone with Gay and Cockrell in Cleveland if they wish because they'll be facing a rookie QB. In fact, that might be desired against a rookie. But eventually, when the quality QBs come onto the schedule, they're going to need better options at CB.
Joe B
12:54
Does K. Davis make the team? Touissant? Both seem below average.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
My guess is Davis over Toussaint. Don't think they'll have the luxury to keep four TBs if they keep six WRs.

I think M Mitchell is overpaid and overrated, and he doesn't always wrap up like he ought to.  Still he probably would have done better than Golden trying to help on the Moncrief tackle.  What's the prognosis for Mitchell's return?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:55
Hopefully soon because I saw that Golden tackle attempt, too. Just brutal. I see high school safeties with better technique.

Do you believe the late hit on Martavis Bryant that was not called for a penalty will be reviewed by the league and result in a fine and/or suspension?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:56
I'd have to go back and listen for the whistle. If it came well after the whistle then maybe, but the fact that there was no penalty on the play tells me the official was late in blowing the whistle.

Did the Steelers come close to signing a free agent CB in off season like Stephon Gilbert?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:56
I don't know who Stephen Gilbert is, but if you mean Stepon Gilmore then the answer is no.
Scott
12:56
Why haven't they given Trey Williams an opportunity to return kickoffs? He did so effectively in college.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:56
Probably too small to do that in the pros.

12:56
Will Haley stay upstairs in the regular season?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:57
Ben says he likes it that way so I'm saying yes.

What are the chances the outside starting corners are Burns/Sensabaugh with Hilton in the slot and Sutton pushing for someone's starting job by midseason?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:57
Burns/Sensabaugh and Hilton could be the group by the end of September, but I don't think that'll be the case in Cleveland.
KJ
12:57
Ray, in your opinion, how much will the Steelers miss Lawrence Timmons this season, if at all?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:58
Only time will tell, but he was so solid for so many years.

In your honest opinion what is your reaction now on drafting Ju Ju....Connor...Dobbs with those valuable draft pick slots?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:59
JuJu will be good. I think Conner will be good in time. He's just missed a lot of time this spring and summer with injuries that might hamper his development early in his rookie year. Dobbs hasn't impressed me at all, but QBs take time to develop.

Please talk me down from the ledge Ray. These past 2 preseason games have been bad. Is there any hope left?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:59
I predicted an 11-5 season and another AFC North championship. Come down from the ledge.

You say don't read too much into preseason ,but this is exactly like what they looked like during the regular season last year. They have the worst secondary in the league, it is painful to watch receivers with 5-10 yards of open field making catches. Don't we need to seriously consider a trade?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:01
They'll game plan in the regular season. Mike Mitchell should be back by then. It's not a great secondary, but relax a little. The games don;t count for real until Sept. 10.
Stiller Guy

Didn't get to see the game with Colts - how did you think Sutton looked?
