Bruce has a team option for 2017, Grandy is under contract through 2017, Conforto still has infinite team control, Lagares is under contract, Cespedes has his player option. How do the musical chairs work out for next season?

One of the ways it will work out is that Cespedes is probably long gone after the season, but beyond that, I don't know. They must be very worried about Lagares' production going forward.

Well obviously I am not a party to trade talks, but one would have to assume that the Brewers were less impressed with the Mets package of assets than were the Reds.

Dilson+ for Bruce seems like an overpay. He was 2B of the future but they never gave him a chance—and now trade him for an aging OF coming off some bad seasons? Makes no sense, right?

It makes sense if you view it through the prism of 2016 only. They weren't willing to call up Herrera, and they need offense. So, swapping him out for Bruce makes sense in that respect. Beyond that, I'm having a tougher time with it.

If there was an opportunity for them to trade Blackmon and get a good pitching prospect back, then yes, I think they did. I'm not convinced that that is the case, however.

It's curious in that the Blue Jays need all the pitching they can get, but perhaps at this point they think Chavez just needs a change in scenery. His homers have been way up this year, and while his xFIP is just as healthy as ever, perhaps the Jays see Skydome as his bugaboo and just need to get him out of there.

The difference is that Harper doesn't seem as likely to be swayed by his owner, but to be fair I have never spoken to either player and can't say for sure.

No, I think that it was a good trade on the down low. Clippard will help them hold the fort until they are ready to be better.
