RIP to Jose. Great tribute last night in Miami.
Steve Adams
3:05
100%.

This has been the worst week since I've started covering baseball full-time, and probably one of the worst in recent history. Last night's tribute was amazing, and Dee Gordon's home run may be the single most emotional moment I've ever experienced watching a baseball game.
3:06
Fernandez was a personal favorite of mine, and I've been crushed all week. I didn't know it was possible for the death of a celebrity/athlete to hit me like this. I can't imagine what his family, teammates, friends, and the city of Miami are going through. Rest in peace, Jose.
Connor

What are your thoughts on a Jose Fernandez award for the players displaying the motion passion for the game?
Steve Adams
3:07
Yeah I've seen several suggest that, and I'm all for it.
Billy
3:07
Why Beckham? Why not use Gillespie or even Grant Green? Seems 6 days of a sub par 3rd baseman just seems silly to me
Steve Adams
3:09
Giants clearly feel that Beckham is a better option than either of those two. They're also scheduled to face Kershaw and Hill this weekend, and Beckham's career numbers against lefties are better than Green's.
Gillaspie isn't playable against lefties.
Oh wow.
Wilson Ramos tore his ACL.
3:10
Absolutely brutal news for the Nationals
Dusty Baker just made the announcement. Nats have called up Spencer Kieboom.
Matt
3:10
Who is the Giant's closer in 2017?
Steve Adams
3:11
I think they'll pursue the top free-agent names out there, though I don't know that I see them committing top dollar to Chapman or Jansen (and also outbidding the Dodgers, Yankees and possibly even Red Sox in the process)... My guess at this point (and that's all it is): Melancon.
Hoang
3:11
What do you think Ramos will sign for this offseason and is he still a QO candidate?
Steve Adams
3:13
I'd still make the qualifying offer. The ACL undoubtedly hurts his free agent stock, but I don't think it's going to cause teams to drop their offers to one year or anything. It's something that he can theoretically rehab in time for early next season. I'd like to see a timeline on how long the recovery is expected to be before making any predictions on his contract... Marcus Stroman came back from one in what? Five to six months? But as a catcher, it's gotta be tough for Ramos.

Kimbel -Padres Trade, Great Rookies for Friars, Margot and Ausaje looking Good.
Steve Adams
3:15
Yeah I said last year at the time that I thought the Red Sox paid too much in that deal, as good as Kimbrel is. You can make the argument that the Sox "didn't need" some of the players they surrendered because of the existing talent at the MLB level, but I still didn't consider Kimbrel at a premium rate to be full market value for that package of prospects.

3:15
Do the rangers extend me this off season?
Steve Adams
3:17
I'm sure they'll try, but if they're not willing to go up into the Brian McCann/Russell Martin territory -- five years north of $80MM -- then I don't see it happening. Really, I could see him earning a bit north of that in an open-market setting a year from now if he continues to produce near this level at the plate.
Tim Tebow
3:17
What are my chances on making the mets mlb team by the end of next season?
Steve Adams
3:17
0.5%?
Wadlez
3:17
If Nats give Ramos the QO, aren't they just sinking 16M? Pretty likely he accepts.
Steve Adams
3:18
I don't think it's necessarily likely that he accepts, and how is Wilson Ramos on a one-year deal "sinking" the money? It's not like he's going to miss the entire 2017 season.

3:18
Stephen Vogt to the Tigers next season?
Steve Adams
3:19
Tigers are pretty big on James McCann, and the A's love Stephen Vogt. I'm sure Vogt will draw some trade interest this winter, and maybe Beane/Forst will consider it, but that particular match strikes me as pretty unlikely.

3:20
Does Jose Fernandez win the NL Cy Young now?
Steve Adams
3:21
From a purely statistical standpoint, I don't think he should, but some sort of posthumous award is at least possible. I'm sure some would be upset over it, but I do imagine there will be some voters who factor emotion into their voting.
Dagger Moose
3:21
That Melancon trade looks very good for Pirates and may be very lopsided in long run right?
Steve Adams
3:22
Generally speaking, I think any rental for a top-tier closer is almost always an immediate overpay, and one that I wouldn't make. Rivero alone would've been more than I wanted to give for Melancon, honestly.

Kieboom has such a perfect name for a power hitter.
Steve Adams
3:23
It's a tremendous name. He has a brother that the Nats drafted this year, as well -- Carter Kieboom.

brandon phillips to angels for Kaleb Cowart
Steve Adams
3:23
Phillips vetoed two trades last winter knowing full well the Reds would be terrible. Doubt he approves one to a team that looks like a long-shot to contend in 2017.

3:24
It's very sad the loss of Fernandez. How do the Marlins move forward this offseason now that they have no ace? Will they deal Yelich/Ozuna/Stanton/Gordon for an ace pitcher because they really lack pitching, or does the Prado signing show that they are going all out even though they have no pitching?
Steve Adams
3:26
I wouldn't say they have "no" pitching -- they just lack a top-tier starter, which isn't necessarily an insurmountable obstacle (see; Orioles, Baltimore). Chen, Conley, Koehler gives them three mid- to back-of-the-rotation arms at the very least, and they can add a free agent this season, even if it's someone who isn't exactly dominant. Or they could just beat the market for Rich Hill and hope for the best in terms of health. They spent $80MM on Chen last season, and Hill won't cost that, obviously.

3:26
Who takes a chance on me? If I am healthy?
Steve Adams
3:26
He's signing a minor league deal with the Rangers. It's a foregone conclusion.
Not Rick Hahn
3:27
Robin, Kenny and Rick, Who should the Sox get rid of and who should they keep?
Steve Adams
3:28
I actually like Rick Hahn and would be curious to see how he'd operate the team with less interference from Reinsdorf. Moving on from Ventura and shifting Williams into a role that doesn't have anything to do with baseball operations -- some Ned Colletti style adviser position -- wouldn't be a bad way to go.
