Shoot, I somehow messed up my time yet again. Will redouble efforts to get these started on time (2pm CST). Sorry!
I'll give a moment for the room to fill and we'll get moving.

Why did Drew Storen only get 3 million?
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
I think it was a combination of things. Obviously struggled quite a bit in Toronto and improved, but only over a short stretch, in Seattle. His peripherals were pretty much in his normal range, despite the dumpy ERA, but he had a rather significant velo loss. And then he ended the year with an injury.
2:38
So, any team was going to be taking a bit of a risk with a signing. I guess I thought he'd be able to get more, but there are a lot of arms still out there. And perhaps he even took less to go to Cincinnati, where he has some geographic ties and might well end up closing.

Daily Trumbo -> Rockies -> Chicks dig the long ball rumor?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
I'd have no problem with them signing Trumbo, so long as it's a limited-risk deal. Say he falls to 2/25 or something like that.
2:40
Think they could have a pretty good team if they add him or some other first baseman and turn one of their outfielders into a quality pitcher. Not that it's easy to pull that off.

Where do the angels go in regards to their bullpen? Lefty or Set Up more priority?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
Both would be worthwhile, so I'm not sure they necessarily need to prioritize so much as set their price on the guys they are interested in and wait til they (hopefully) get it.
Probably will be looking for value rather than chasing the few most desirable remaining pitchers.
Maybe they shoulda been in on Storen? Maybe they were?

should i go to Japan or Korea ?

Taiwan. Follow Manny.

Why is no one biting on Jason Hammel? When they do who takes a chance?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
This is an instance where we may not know the full story. There have been some trickles of info suggesting that arm health is a concern. I have no idea if that's valid, but it does surprise me that we haven't heard of more action.

Been seeing reports about Tyson Ross going to Texas, or the Cubs, does this mean that a return to SD is gone?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Not over yet, but that never seemed particularly likely. If they wanted him, they had the chance.

What are some necessary requirements to becoming an MLB Trade Rumors freelance writer?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
The recent posting was limited to folks with journalism or significant ballplaying experience, but we do occasionally have part-time openings on the site. Otherwise, we typically solicit most original writing from non-MLBTR personnel. But if you are amazing and send something in, it's not like it wouldn't be checked out, y'know?

Any opinions/thoughts on the Fangraphs article about Section 2855 of the California Labor Code Trout could in theory use to opt out of his contract this offseason to become a Free Agent? For those that haven’t read, Section 2855 is essentially a California law that states any employee can opt out of any contract that exceeds 7 years in length (including extensions). Trout is the big, sexy name attached to the theory right now, but I am most interested in how it can affect those fringe type players who spend significant time in the minors before their free agent clock starts ticking.
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Thanks for adding the background.
2:46
This arose b/c Nathaniel Grow of Fangraphs wrote about how the law could apply to Trout (and others). I personally feel that there are some unanswered questions from what I have read. I can imagine some points of distinction legally and factually, as well as loads of practical barriers.
2:47
Also, it's not like it's a new law. So, there's nothing new here, really. And barring any suggestion that someone is considering it -- a minor leaguer who is annoyed at his team? a veteran who feels spurned? -- it's not a pressing issue.

Jason Hammel sign with twins then traded at deadline. He would be our 1 or 2 . That should be a selling point?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Not sure that would add much appeal. Plus, knowing he will be dangled at the first opportunity might be a disincentive.

Nightengale is the second reporter who has now said Dodgers are offering a 1:1 swap of De Leon for Dozier. That seems pretty low offer, yes? Even if you think De Leon is a top 30 prospect, he's had shoulder soreness and the most innings he's thrown in a single season so far is only 114. Seems like Dozier, who should be worth about 8 bWAR over the next two years, should get a better return than that, yes?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
I think that all else being equal, it's a bit light. Though De Leon is a solid centerpiece. But this is a market situation, and there's just not a lot of demand, so it makes sense the Dodgers are trying to get a little extra value.

Do you think that Tyson Ross to the Nats is a legitimate possibility or just a weird rumor?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Seems reasonable enough. They could use the depth.

Am I the only one surprised the Rockies aren't in the mix for Quintana? He is notorious for keeping the ball in the ballpark and seems like a perfect fit. Would Col deal Dahl for him do you think?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
Would depend on the teams' respective valuations, of course, but Dahl would have to be a really appealing return. And chasing a guy like Quintana could make it worth it for the Rockies.

Will the mets ever trade bruce
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
Probably, yeah, but I'm not surprised it is dragging out and I don't think they'll get much back.
