Steve Adams

Greetings! Apologies on the late start ... we'll go well past the typical 3 CT stopping point this week.
Les Gomez
3:45
Zach Wheller and Juan Lagares for AJ Pollak. Who says no?
Steve Adams
3:45
D-backs
Sam
3:45
chris carter?
Steve Adams
3:46
Surprised he only got $3MM guaranteed -- I'd have thought $5MM or so when all was said and done, plus incentives. But it's a nice deal for the Yankees... getting Carter for less than 10% of the commitment Trumbo received when the actual talent discrepancy between those two isn't anywhere near that large is a good add

Hi Steve, do you see a fit with the Twins for Pagan, Blanton?
Steve Adams
3:48
On paper, sure, but Blanton seems to prefer a West Coast team. Pagan makes some sense, but I'd imagine that there are contenders that would pay him similarly on a one-year deal, and he may want the promise of more ABs. If he's willing to be kind of a fourth OF on a non-contender, he makes sense in MN.

With signings of napoli and carter do u feel os will ink either bourne or pagan
Steve Adams
3:48
I don't think Carter/Nap have any bearing on the Orioles adding one of Bourn or Pagan. I think there's a decent chance Bourn goes back there.

RAYS ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!! No Napoli, No Carter... who's next????????
Steve Adams
3:49
Could still go after Wieters
Mijw Napoli
3:49
only one yr??? seriously???
Steve Adams
3:50
I wouldn't have given him any more than that. He's 35, has a known hip condition, and is a terrible baserunner with a 30% strikeout rate. I thought the three-year ask early this winter was utter insanity, and even two seemed questionable

Rumor out if Dominican Republic is Padres will sign Erick Aybar to a minor league contract with invite to Spring Training
Steve Adams
3:52
I've yet to see that, but I just sat down at my laptop for the first time today. That'd certainly make sense, as getting some competition in there for Sardinas would be beneficial

How good an add is Hammel for KC?
Steve Adams
3:53
At 2/16 it was a really nice price for Moore and the Royals. Obviously, the circumstances leading up to it are extremely unfortunate, but can't argue with that price. I doubt many would've pegged Volquez to get more than Hammel when the latter's option was declined in November.

3:53
why is Mo sitting on his hands when there are useful players to be had?
Steve Adams
3:54
I mean, he already signed Dexter Fowler and Brett Cecil. And traded Jaime Garcia for prospects. It's not like the Cards have been silent this winter.

Your thoughts on the Eddie Butler deal for Chicago? I know he's no Jake Arrieta, but if Chris Bosio can transform him somewhere in between Arrieta & Jacob Turner, Id be happy.
Steve Adams
3:55
"Somewhere between Jacob Turner and Jake Arrieta" is like saying "I'd be happy if I can sell my used Keurig machine on Craigslist for somewhere between $5 and $2,000."
The Butler pickup is fine, but I wouldn't expect much of anything. It's a lottery ticket addition of a guy who, if things go well in Chicago, should spend most of the season in AAA as a depth piece.
Billy Madison
3:56
Does the AL East provide three playoff teams again this year?
Steve Adams
3:57
I doubt it. The West feels much stronger this season, and I'll have the same questions about the Orioles and Yankees that I had all last year (namely, their rotations). It's certainly possible, as there will probably be 3-4 teams that miss the WIld Card spot by a couple of games, but I don't think there are three clear playoff teams there.

is dozier to braves is this still a possibility
Steve Adams
3:58
I don't think it was ever all that likely and I definitely don't think so now.
Tim
3:58
No one wants Wieters??
Steve Adams
3:59
I'm sure they do at a certain price point. By now, Boras may simply wait until a week or two of Spring Training passes by to see if any injuries arise and create a need.

If you had to guess, which team puts up the highest number in the L column?
Steve Adams
4:00
There's some really, really ugly pitching going on down in San Diego.
Zak
4:00
Most likely to be traded before opening day; Gardner, Castro, or Headley?
Steve Adams
4:01
None of the above.
NYTT
4:01
Are the Braves going to trade one or two of Colon/Dickey/Garcia at the trade deadline? And if that's there plan, is it a good one?
Steve Adams
4:01
I'm sure their hope is that a couple of those guys are pitching well enough to merit trade interest and that their younger arms have come along to the point that they look ready for a big league look.
Hannah Hochevar
4:02
With Hammel off the board, who's your favorite SP target?
Steve Adams
4:02
Not a lot left to be excited about, but I'd be curious to see how Travis Wood can perform in a starting role, especially if I'm an NL GM (the guy can rake ... relative to other pitchers anyway)

4:04
If you were Manny Machado, would you take ~50 million under your market value (lets say a 265 million contract over 10 years) for the chance to be Cal 2.0 in Baltimore?
Steve Adams
4:04
That's more than $50MM under market for Manny. And I don't think he's leaving that much money on the table.
M.J.

Hey Steve. I enjoy the chats. Keep up the good work. Why did Cleveland sign Boone Logan to the one year, $6.5 million contract, but didn't re-sign Rajai Davis? If they were going to spend that money, it should've been used to re-sign Rajai.
Steve Adams
4:05
I don't agree with that -- I don't love Logan, but getting him for one year is nice, and the team was in serious need of some additional left-handed relief help
