Hey all ... sorry for the brief delay in getting started. Got locked out and had to run to a coffee shop : (
Fire some questions and we'll get rolling soon.

Can the Mets fans expect additional moves to augment their roster?
Jeffrey Todd
2:06
I wouldn't expect much at this point. Maybe an outside chance that Bruce is traded and that ends up bringing back another MLB piece.
Hard to ask for much more, isn't it?

With Fangraphs projecting the Angels to win 84 games and PECOTA projecting 78, if the pitching holds up then which projection will be more accurate?
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
What if they win 81 games? Is it like the Price is Right Showcase Showdown, where you have to be closest w/out going over?
I'd be pretty comfortable guessing right in between them, is why I ask!
2:08
Those projections, btw, are expressing some opinion on the likely pitching health. If it all breaks right, they could reasonably win ~90-92 or whatever. There's a big margin of error even if the true talent estimation is correct.

What would it cost the nationals to eat Robertson?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
I'll assume you mean "get" him, but either way ...
2:10
I don't have a real clear view on what it would cost, b/c the Sox may well be interested in waiting to find out whether he can rebound and draw more at the deadline.
But I really don't understand the suggestions I've read that it could cost them Robles. That just doesn't stand to reason.

Chance Carter beats out Bird for NYY 1B job? Also, chance he was signed b/c Bird isn't progressing in healthy fashion?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
I know Joel Sherman wrote a long thing about this. But basically, I don't think most close observers ever saw Bird as some kind of can't-miss prospect. Given he's working back from injury, it makes all the more sense to take it slow.
2:13
For the money, it's a really nice value. Gives them options. I'll guess Bird starts out getting regular ABs at Triple-A and they react as the season goes.

Reds making anymore moves after Homer Bailey's surgery?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
Could certainly compete a rotation job with some minor-league signees.
(Beyond the Arroyo signing.)

Where do you see Pedro Alvarez going?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Have to figure it's an AL team ....
2:15
I'd have said Rays before they signed LoMo.
(I'm stalling to think, yes.)
2:16
No perfect fit, but perhaps Astros, Mariners, even Red Sox could be interesting fits?

Where does Wieters end up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
I'll guess the Nationals.

Thoughts on the knuckle-balling potential of Brian Wilson?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Will only work if his beard is so long that it waves in the wind and completely hides the ball until release.

2:18
If the ChiSox can get Robles for Robertson, why doesn't NYY trade Betances for him
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
See, it's reasonable questions like this that lead me to believe Robles-for-Robertson is ridiculous. It just isn't a fair value for DRob.

Where can my Pirates find starting pitching help?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Not sure I see a real need for it at this stage. If an opportunity on Quintana or similar arises, then great. If not, grab some MiLB signees for depth and get to work with what you've got. There are some intriguing young arms there that could be accompanied by no-risk veterans, I feel like.
Dan
2:21
Going back to your Bird question, do you think the Yankees adding Chris Carter makes them more likely to trade for Jose Quintana. They have moveable pieces in Bird/Tyler Austin now
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
No. He's a one-year signee who doesn't change their long-term picture on those types of players. And those guys aren't good enough to really make or break a deal for Q.
Guy Smiley
2:22
Pagan makes way too much sense for the Blue Jays, but do you think they actually do it? Superficially they seem pretty content to run Upton/Carrera/Pompey in LF.
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Sure, why not? I'd bet he'll be most interested in the chance at a lot of playing time, so if TOR can offer the most, I don't see why cost would be a major barrier.
Rod
2:23
Should ATL try to trade Wisler and Blair to a team that needs a #5?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
No, because they wouldn't get much out of them and are better served holding and hoping either/both turns into a serviceable and cheap back-end starter.

Why did Homer Bailey wait so long to have surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow? Isn't that something that should be evaluated immediately after the season ends?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
No idea in this case, but bear in mind a lot of these pre-spring surgeries happen b/c guys are ramping up before reporting to camp. Issues can crop up, or it turns out things didn't heal that were hoped to be gone.
