Hey folks! Go ahead and start tossing in some questions and I'll get started in a minute or two.

How long will it take wieters to sign? Any possibility of the Rockies?
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
Anybody's guess just how long it takes. He's a Boras guy, and we all remember what happened with Stephen Drew and Kendrys Morales a few years back. (No QO here, but point being: he ain't afraid to wait.)
2:11
That said, I'd expect they have a plan in place. If there's no game-changing offer or injury or whatever by a certain date, they'll head to a certain destination.
I'd be surprised if the Rox have the cash left to make them a player, from indications their reporters have given.

Will the Dodgers try and move/trade some of their excess pitchers by end of spring training?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Perhaps only in a true best case scenario: just about everyone is healthy and looking good, in which case they don't really have a way to keep them all around. Even then, they could option Urias and wedge some guys in the pen while they wait for someone to break.

why am i never considered for an extrension?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Well, he's a Boras guy, so that's always going to be seen as making it unlikely unless the player is particularly interested in it himself. With the health questions that cropped up, and given that he's into his arb years, it's probably just not terribly likely that PIT will offer enough to make him bite.
2:15
While we see a lot of 1+ and 2+ service class pitchers sign long-term deals, and a fair number of pending free agents (Bailey, Stras, Kershaw to name a few), the intermediate years aren't as common. I think that's b/c the cost reaches a point where it's a really expensive proposition, and teams aren't thrilled with guaranteeing years 3 seasons+ away when there's so much injury risk.
That's why the Carlos Martinez deal was sort of in its own bracket.

whats going on with the Orioles? any big trades to come?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Just not seeing any real opportunities there, to be honest. They could either be a limited deadline buyer or perhaps a seller if they really fall shy of expectations, but other than a late deal on a FA (like Pedro Alvarez or a reliever) I'd guess the roster is set.

I saw an article that said the Rockies need to sign joe Blanton, any chance of that happening?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Thomas Harding just tweeted it's unlikely, though I have always felt that COL holds its cards really close with its reporters.

I know it's just a MiLB contract but why would anyone take a flyer on Latos at this point?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
He's 29 and was really, really good not that long ago.

Is it crazy to think that Trouts numbers actually improve this year based on the improved lineup around him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
Any small impact from lineup protection -- which, yes, has largely been shown to be a myth but perhaps has some shreds of truth -- would likely be offset by the fact he's on an aging curve like everyone else. But I'm just speaking in terms of projections. Certainly possible he has a career year, which in his case is a scary proposition.

A lot depends on this season, but how much is Darvish worth? If the Rangers offered 6/180, would that be too low?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
He's 3 years older than Strasburg at the same stage of their service time, and Stras got 7/175. Very similar pitchers, IMO. So I guess I'd say that's a bit on the high side if we accept the Strasburg deal as a market contract for a pending FA starter.

Are the Rays the only confirmed team to have made an offer to Wieters or are there any "mystery team" offers?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
I wouldn't put too much stock in who's been reported to make an offer vs who has been reported to have ongoing interest. My guess is there are a handful of teams sniffing around that have made clear to Boras what they are willing to do.

What will the Dodgers do about their outfield glut (enhanced by signing Franklin Guttierez)?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Most of their borderline roster candidates can be optioned, so I expect they'll hold onto the depth if they can. But as w the starters, if there's a roster crunch they could shave someone off. Wouldn't expect they'll move a significant player, though.

With Mike Ilitch passing, does it seem even more likely for the Tigers to cut back in the next year or two? He was the driving force behind a lot of their big moves.
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
First of all, I have to say, what a dude. You always expect to read some "yeah, but ...." type stuff about someone in that position, but it seems like he was just pretty awesome all around. So, RIP. Life well lived.
2:26
Sense I got from reading around about his son is that he's largely following in his father's footsteps. But perhaps he'll take a somewhat different view of how to construct a sustainable approach, as we've seen expressed from the organization since the younger Ilitch took over and the switch to Avila was made. Perhaps analogous to Hal Steinbrenner with the Yanks, in that he'll continue the general commitment but look to be a bit more efficient and have a broader view of the competitive timeline?

With the understanding that the White Sox are prioritizing the acquisition of young, advanced talent over dumping salary, what would be a realistic deal between the two sides? Severino? Fedde?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
This is a D Robertson to Nats question.
2:28
I think Severino is the right kind of value -- a solid, upper level prospect at an area of need. But he's not really expendable for the Nats ... unless, perhaps, they get Wieters. That would make things interesting. Fedde is a top50ish leaguewide prospect and the Nats already punted a bunch of years of control over young SPs in the Eaton deal.

Can anybody in the AL East touch the Red Sox?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
I like them on paper by a solid margin. But perhaps the entire rest of the division is still within the margin of error, so I wouldn't call them a favorite to take the division in the way the Cubs are, say.

Doug Foster to the Pirates for 6 million with an option for 2018 who says no?
Jeffrey Todd

Not Fister. I don't think he'll earn that much at this point.

What are the odds of Manny Machado and Bryce Harper both headed to the same team in FA?
