Adding the App

  1. Navigate to the JotCast Moderated Chats app page on the Zoom Marketplace.
  2. Login to your Zoom account if you haven't already done so, and click the "Add" button.
  3. After reviewing the terms, click the "Allow" button.
  4. You're all set! Join a Zoom meeting to start using the app.

Using the App as a Zoom Host

Prerequisites

  1. In order to use the JotCast Moderated Chats app for Zoom, you must first add the app to your Zoom client. See the Adding the App section for more details.
  2. JotCast Moderated Chats for Zoom can only be used while you are in a Zoom meeting. Make sure to join your meeting before launching the JotCast Moderated Chats app.
  3. If you haven't already done so, you'll also need to register for a free JotCast account.

Creating a Chat

  1. After joining your Zoom Meeting, click the "Apps" button and launch the JotCast Moderated Chats app.
  2. Click the button to "Host Chat".
    • If you are already logged in to your JotCast account, you'll be brought directly to the "Create Chat" page.
    • Otherwise, click "Log In" at the top right of the screen.
    • Enter your credentials to login to your JotCast account.
    • Click "Create Chat" at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter a Chat Name for your chat.
  4. Configure as many additional options for your chat as you'd like. See our full Support Guide for more information on all the different ways that you can customize your chat.
  5. Once you've finished configuring your chat, scroll to the bottom of the form and click the "Create Chat" button.

Inviting Meeting Participants to Chat

  1. After creating your chat, you'll be sent to the Chat Details page. From here, you can review your chat details and make modifications, if necessary. You can also add additional moderators and invite Zoom Participants to join the chat.
  2. To invite your participants to join, simply click the "Invite Users to Chat" button.
  3. You will be prompted by Zoom to confirm that you would like to invite your meeting participants to use JotCast Moderated Chats. Click the "Allow" button.
  4. Your meeting attendees will be prompted to open the JotCast Moderated Chats app, or to install it, if they haven't already done so.

Moderating your Chat

  1. From your Chat Details page, click the "Moderate Your Chat" button to launch the moderator panel. You can also get to the moderator panel by clicking on the chat name from your My Chats page on the JotCast website.
  2. In the moderator panel, you have full control over your meeting's chat. Messages sent by meeting participants are queued on the left-hand side of the moderator panel until they are manually approved or rejected by a moderator.

Using the App as a Zoom Participant

Prerequisites

  1. JotCast Moderated Chats for Zoom can only be used while you are in a Zoom meeting. Make sure to join your meeting before launching the JotCast Moderated Chats app.

Joining a Chat

When prompted by the meeting host

  1. After joining your Zoom meeting, the host may prompt you to launch the JotCast Moderated Chats app and join the chat. When this happens, a message will appear in the top right of your Zoom client. Click the "Open" button
  2. If you haven't already installed the JotCast Moderated Chats app for Zoom, you will be prompted to do so now.
    • Click the "Add" button.
    • After reviewing the application's permissions, click the "Allow" button. The app will launch after installation is completed.
  3. If the host has only created a single chat for this meeting, you will automatically enter the chat after the app launches.
  4. If the host has created multiple chats for this meeting, choose the name of the chat you'd like to join.

Joining manually

  1. If you haven't already installed the JotCast Moderated Chats app, you must do so now. See the Adding the App section for more details.
  2. After joining your Zoom meeting, click the "Apps" button in your Zoom client.
  3. Click "JotCast Moderated Chats" to launch the app.
  4. If the host hasn't created any chats yet, your options will be limited for the moment. For now, you can periodically click the "Refresh" button to check if your host has created a chat for your meeting.
  5. If the host has only created a single chat for this meeting, you will automatically enter the chat after the app launches.
  6. If the host has created multiple chats for this meeting, choose the name of the chat you'd like to join.

Participating in a Chat

  1. You can type your message into the textbox at the bottom of the chat, but you'll need to wait for one of the meeting hosts to approve it before it appears.
  2. Messages will appear in the chat area. By default, all messages must be approved by the meeting host(s) first.
  3. There are lots of additional features that your host may choose to enable - like reactions, peanut gallery, or instant messaging. For more details on all of our features, check out our comprehensive support guide.

Removing the App

  1. Navigate to the Zoom Marketplace and login to your Zoom account, if you haven't already done so.
  2. Click "Manage >> Added Apps".
  3. Find the JotCast Moderated Chats app in the list of added applications.
  4. Click the "Remove" button.
