Steve Adams

Greetings world. Apologies on the late start. I'll try to go a bit longer to cover the difference
Orioles
3:27
Austin Hays starting RF?
Steve Adams
3:28
They'll sign a left-handed hitter to at least compete for at-bats. He's probably starting for them by the end of the year though. Guessing they end up with a CarGo or a Jarrod Dyson type first though.
Sol Kurtz
3:28
What are the chances the Cleveland Indians land Manny Machado?
Steve Adams
3:29
More or less nonexistent? They're already at a record payroll, they have no chance of signing him beyond this year, and he still by all accounts will cost them two MLB-ready rotation pieces with 4+ years of team control.

3:29
Will the Yankees trade Ellsbury before opening day?
Steve Adams
3:29
My answer, as every week, remains nope

3:30
Who has a better chance of reaching the majors this year — Tim Tebow or Rafael Palmeiro?
Steve Adams
3:30
I suppose we've at least identified someone that has less of a chance at getting to the Majors than Tebow now that Raffy wants a comeback.
Nationals
3:30
Lucroy 2 yr 20 mill? To dc
Steve Adams
3:31
I think the Wieters contract makes plenty of sense for him, but I don't know that the Nats are going to jump on the same deal for another bounceback candidate whose framing numbers have plummeted in recent years (to say nothing of his offense).

Nats are a great fit if the Marlins ultimately move Realmuto, and I like them for Alex Avila, too.

3:32
Hosmer to Royals or Padres?  Prediction on when will he sign?
Steve Adams
3:33
I lean slightly toward going back to KC just for familiarity, legacy, etc. If he's got two teams offering him seven years at roughly the same dollars and neither is expected to contend... KC seems a bit more logical.

Are the mets still looking for second baseman
Steve Adams
3:33
Indeed they are
Pedro Alvarez
3:34
Will I ever get another MLB opportunity?
Steve Adams
3:35
I don't see a good reason to think he won't ever play in the Majors again, but I don't think he's going to hold down a regular role barring a massive improvement in contact skills and/or his ability to hit lefties, which seems unlikely at this point in his career.

3:36
Does Glenn Perkins retirement surprise you?
Steve Adams
3:37
He said at the beginning of the offseason he was going to re-sign with the Twins on a minor league deal or call it a career. Don't know how much interest the team had, but I think when a player deliberately limits his market to one team, you can't be surprised when he retires.
Perk had a pretty massive shoulder surgery and was obviously never quite right afterward. As a Minnesota native, it's a bit sad to see him go, but he had a pretty nice career and was one of the game's better left-handed relievers at his peak.

Are Odorizzi and Colome both on the Rays opening day roster?
Steve Adams
3:38
I'd bet on one of the two being moved before Opening Day and wouldn't rule out both.
Matty Klentak
3:39
I'm thinking we sign Jason Vargas, a utility guy and call it good. You agree?
Steve Adams
3:39
If you're looking one-year veterans for the rotation, can maybe set your sights a little higher than Vargas. I'm still not sure they don't do something bigger for the rotation if a value opportunity presents itself.

Do you like the Jackson get by the Giants
Steve Adams
3:40
Would've liked to have seen them go get someone who has been an actual center fielder recently. Jackson has appeared there on and off, but he hasn't rated well there in a half decade and he's two years removed from a pretty major knee surgery.
3:41
Limited resources, of course, but I'd rather have seen them go out and trade a reliever and a mid-range prospect for Grichuk than sign A-Jax. But, it's 2/6 -- tough to hate on it much at that price point.

What’s up with JDM?  This is getting ridiculous!
Steve Adams
3:43
It's not like Martinez is alone in his stagnant market. Boras went out looking way beyond reasonable expectations in this instance for a player that was already going to have a somewhat limited market. None of the usual big spenders are in on him outside of Boston, which makes it hard to drive up the price point.

I think the notion that his market has "collapsed" to the 5/125 range is silly. I didn't even love predicting 6/150 for the guy on our Top 50 list. He has serious defensive questions as well as uncertainty surrounding his durability. If 5/125 is there, take it already.
Yo!
3:44
As a hypothetical... Ramos, Beede, Shaw and Panik for Yelich and Castro?
Steve Adams
3:44
Not remotely close. You are wildly underselling Yelich's value. Plus, that puts the Giants over the luxury tax.
Stealing Signs
3:44
Should we believe Atkins' data and trust that Randal will hit better at the dome/AL?
Steve Adams
3:45
He's already a solid player, even if the K's are going to torch his OBP on an annual basis. He has legitimate power and can play a solid or better center field. I thought it was a nice pickup for the Jays and think he'll do well there. If Toronto believes it can make some improvements around the edges -- all the better.
JDM
3:46
Maybe I just prefer Arizona to Boston.
Steve Adams
3:47
That may be true, but the D-backs are already locked into a franchise record payroll for 2018, and unless they move Greinke, they'd be committing something close to $60MM annually to that pair for the next four years. That's not ideal for them, even with the new TV deal juicing annual revenue a bit.

3:47
does Garcia, Lackey or Lynn make sense for Cinci?
Steve Adams
3:48
I can't see either Lackey or Lynn signing there. Lackey will want more of a contender given his age. No sense punting the draft pick for Lynn when they're still in the midst of retooling the org. Garcia as a veteran to soak up some innings, sure.

What are Mariners missing to get to that coveted Wild Card?
Steve Adams
3:49
Rotation still feels too thin, especially if Paxton gets hurt again -- and he's yet to show that he can hold up for a whole big league season
Tom E. Johns
3:49
Chances Michael Pineda comes back in August and starts a playoff game for the Twins.
