Greetings! I've spent the past 48 hours kicking emails back and forth with Tim, Jeff and Jason as we plot out this year's top 50 free agents, so if you have questions about free agency, that's where my brain is currently residing! Of course, postseason, trades, etc. are all fair game as well
Damian

who will be sox new manager
Steve Adams
3:21
Cora, Gardenhire or Ausmus most likely. It'll come down to their interviews, I'm sure, but I tend to lean Cora over the others -- speculatively speaking of course

What will it take for the Yankees to resign the Toddfather?  3 x 12M?
Steve Adams
3:22
I don't really see Frazier commanding a three-year deal, though we've kicked the idea around. I'm currently at two years and a bit higher annual value myself, but 3/36 wouldn't shock me or anything
Nick
3:22
Will we see a compiled list of non tender candidates soon?
Steve Adams
3:23
Yeah that's something we're working on as well, though we list team-by-team NT candidates in the Offseason Outlook series, so you can get a sense of it there as well.

Landing sites for Dee Gordon?
Steve Adams
3:23
Angels, Brewers, Blue Jays all make sense to me.

3:23
If I'm the Yankees do i try for Darvish or Otani this offseason ?
Steve Adams
3:24
Does it have to be one or the other? Could conceivably pursue both.

That said, I don't think the Yankees are going to pursue any of the very top free agents. Cashman has been adamant about getting under the luxury tax barrier and resetting their penalty rate in advance of the 2018-19 crop of free agents (Harper, Machado, Kershaw, Donaldson, Blackmon, etc.)

3:24
How often vs not is a high $$$ FA pitcher a good investment?
Steve Adams
3:25
Rarely, though more dollars for fewer years is generally a safer bet. Most free agents prefer the long-term security, though, and are willing to budge on the AAV to lengthen the deal.

Is it likely that at least one of the reds 3 OF are traded?
Steve Adams
3:26
I don't see a huge market for either Schebler or Duvall -- their primary calling card is power, and that's up across the league. Neither can really get on base. Hamilton could draw interest given his glove and wheels. Whatever they do, they're going to find a way to get Winker everyday at-bats, as they should.

Who is Kyle Schwarber playing for in 2018?
Steve Adams

The Cubs

will angels target any pitchers?
Steve Adams
3:27
I think they'll look a lot harder at the position-player side of the spectrum. They'll probably make some smaller-scale bullpen pickups, and they'll of course make some kind of effort with Otani, but I don't really buy the idea of them pursuing a top-end free agent starter

Free Agency doesn't really start until after the WS.....But......Can Teams Make Trades right now?
Steve Adams
3:28
Technically sure, but the league frowns on major roster news being announced during the postseason.

Do Cobb and Lynn get 4 year deals? 4/60M?
Steve Adams
3:29
I imagine Lynn gets more than Cobb, who has never thrown 180 innings in a season. I don't love Cobb, but I think he can get a smaller four-year deal than the one you described or something like 3/42.

Chris Tillman to the Tigers on a 1 year deal...plausible?
Steve Adams
3:30
Absolutely. I suggested as much in my Tigers Offseason Outlook: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/10/offseason-outlook-detroit-tiger...

I'd much rather see them sign Tillman for $10-11MM than do something boring like sign Hellickson or Nolasco just to soak up innings.

What type of prospect return would Jays get via the Cards for Donaldson?
Steve Adams
3:30
The Blue Jays aren't trading Donaldson.
3:31
Ross Atkins has gone on record saying he'd only do it if it improved the team's chances in 2018, and no team is going to give up more value than Donaldson can bring in 2018 when he's only controlled for one more year. By definition, they'd be weakening their team or making a marginal upgrade.

Joe Maddon is no better than Dusty Baker. There, I said it.
Steve Adams
3:32
Maddon hasn't had a great postseason, and I thought some of his moves were odd last postseason as well. In terms of in-game strategy, I'd still take Maddon, though. There's a non-zero chance that batting Werth second over Rendon for the entire NLDS legitimately cost the Nationals the series.
3:33
Anthony Rendon is a legitimate NL MVP candidate. Since coming back from spending about half the season on the DL, Werth didn't even look like a Major League hitter. That was a staggeringly and obviously bad decision.

Cards seem intent on adding an impact bat.  Who do you think it will be?  Thanks.
Steve Adams
3:34
They'll be connected to everyone from JD Martinez to Eric Hosmer to Justin Upton (assuming he opts out -- which he should) to Giancarlo Stanton. I think it's too early to handicap which of those names they'll add, but I'll be surprised if they don't add one middle-of-the-order bat. As you suggested, it's a definite priority for them.

How do the Orioles fill in the remainder of the rotation? Gausman and Bundy are locks.... How would Sabathia, Lynn and Santiago look?
Steve Adams
3:36
I don't think they'll sign three, and I feel like Sabathia will either go back to the Yankees or go out to the West Coast (he's from the Bay Area). They've had interest in Santiago before and can get him on the cheap, so I do like that fit. I'd imagine they'll be in on some fairly boring mid-rotation arms as well -- Jaime Garcia. Could try to get creative and sign Mikolas or Wakui out of Japan as well. Shelling out big dollars for Lynn over four years when they're sort of all-in on 2018 doesn't feel right though; if they're not contending midseason they're going to ship out Machado, Britton, Brach, etc. ... Having Lance Lynn left over with three years to go after you gut your core would be odd.

3:37
What's your gut instinct..Cesar Hernandez and Fred Galvis with the Phillies to open the 2018 season? Thanks.
Steve Adams
3:37
Galvis no. Cesar -- flip a coin. There'll be a lot of 2Bs on the market so it'll come down to whether some team makes him, specifically, a priority. I can see it. He's a really nice player. But they can also just hang onto him and run him out there every day while they try to avoid Super Two status for Kingery.

Do the Cubs non-tender me?
Steve Adams
3:38
Nah -- he won't cost enough to justify that.
