Cat

That's what we do......Bother People Until They Do What We Want! Which is a better pet....Cat or Dog?
Steve Adams
3:34
Dog but I inherited the cat when I moved in with my girlfriend. Worth it, but he's a turd all the same. Haha.

3:35
Stanton for archer?
Steve Adams
3:35
The Rays taking on Stanton's contract? Not in this lifetime.

if Tanaka opts out, will the Yanks be in on him or they let him walk and be happy to be out from remaining 3 years?  How into CC will they be?  If Tanaka walks, I assume there is more likely a chance they go after CC?
Steve Adams
3:37
I've said I think Tanaka will/should opt-out since this summer, and his postseason performance is only making it likelier. (Though there will undoubtedly still be tons of narrative columns about how the playoffs changed everything and suddenly made a "once impossible opt-out scenario now look like a no-brainer" or some such nonsense)

Anyhow, I think he's got a legitimate case for $85-100MM in free agency. Sabathia has probably earned himself a two-year deal in the mid-$20MMs total.
I don't think the Yankees will aggressively pursue Tanaka if he opts out, btw, no.

Phillies trade Cesar Hernandez.   Jake Thomson. Mark Appel to Tampa for jake odirrizzi who says no
Steve Adams
3:38
Hernandez alone is more valuable than Odorizzi in my book. Odo only has another two years of team control remaining.
Mike
3:38
With Murphy possibly not ready to start the season, do the Nats roll with Difo at 2nd or go for someone more established?
Steve Adams
3:39
Could very well be Difo but I expect them to acquire someone to fill a Stephen Drew type role once again this winter, so there should be a veteran option on the bench as well.

Who signs Sandoval?
Steve Adams
3:39
Sounds like he's just going to be back with the Giants in camp making the league min with the Red Sox on the hook for the remainder of his salary.
Keith Hernandez
3:40
Why am I not in the Hall of Fame?
Steve Adams
3:41
Because old school voters were all about them dingers and RBIs while completely undervaluing on-base percentage.

3:41
If every FA took a 1 year deal, which deal would be biggest?
Steve Adams
3:42
Now that is an interesting question. I'd probably shift my answer to J.D. Martinez over Darvish if we're talking a straight one-year deal. Easier to bank on the bat.
Steve
3:43
Phillies sign Alex Cobb 4 years 50 million.  Tyler Chatwood 1 Year 9 million.    Sound reasonable
Steve Adams
3:44
Sounds heavy on Cobb, light on Chatwood. Cobb has never even thrown 180 IP in a season. I think he has a case for four at a slightly lower AAV, but it'd be a precedent-setting deal for a pitcher that has been even less durable than Brandon McCarthy was when he got 4/48

Yanks need a GOOD lefty in the pen besides Chapman. Is Mike Minor a good choice?
Steve Adams
3:45
He's the best LHRP on the market this offseason but I think he's going to get enormously as a result of that fact (relatively speaking). He's probably one of two non-closers that I'd peg at four years.

What should the Ray's expect for Odorizzi? A Drew Smyly Type return? More? Less?
Steve Adams
3:47
I guess the two could be fairly comparable in terms of overall quality. Both controlled for two years, both have interesting swinging-strike rates but extreme fly-ball tendencies with home run problems.

Smyly was more interesting, though, given the velocity from the left side, greater history of missing bats and better/more consistent control. I don't think Odorizzi is going to fetch a huge haul, but he still has value.

How much would Todd Frazier cost? 2 years 20 mill?
Steve Adams
3:48
I said something like 2/28 last week I think but I'm coming around on him more and more as a three-year guy in the $36-39MM range.

Hasn't Minor stated that he wants to start again next year?  I'd think he'd be looking for a rotation-weak team to try to maximize those chances.
Steve Adams
3:49
Comments from him that I saw suggested that he'd be intrigued by a late-inning role but is also open to returning to the rotation. He'll make more money as a reliever this offseason, but his long-term earning potential would probably be greater if he went and started somewhere for a year and then re-entered the market on the heels of an impressive 180-inning season. Depends largely on what he decides on for his preference when plotting out the winter with his agents.

Minor to braves - it's like they drafted him over trout all over again!
Steve Adams
3:50
23 teams, including the Angels themselves, drafted someone over Trout. Can't really fault the Braves there.
Luigi
3:51
Which non-closer reliever will get the most money this offseason? how much?
Steve Adams
3:51
Addison Reed -- I have him topping Darren O'Day's deal.

3:52
Any chance brewers go for Kevin Siegrist?
Steve Adams
3:52
I'd expect them to kick the tires on most LH relievers that are available this winter, so yeah.
Jerry DiPoto
3:52
Should I mortgage the farm again to build a contender?  Everybody has 3 mortgages these days.
Steve Adams
3:54
There's this perception that Dipoto has destroyed the Mariners' farm system, which I think is kind of silly. It was awful when he took the job. A large portion of his moves have been flipping questionable lower-level prospects with extreme levels of risk for immediate MLB-ready depth, even if it doesn't come with huge ceiling.

And much of the Angels' terrible farm is on Moreno for going over DIpoto's head and punting picks to sign guys like Pujols and Hamilton. That's not to say Dipoto's regime in LA is blameless, but the whole "farm system destroyer" label is misplaced in my eyes.

We all know Upton is opting out. If the Angels tack on another 2 years and $40 (total 6 years @ $128.5), who else offers that?
Steve Adams
3:55
If that were on the table, I think Upton should take it.

3:56
How dead in the water is the Padres' rebuild if they don't finish 2018 with a top draft pick? We need our Kris Bryant or Carlos Correa type.
Steve Adams
3:57
There's absolutely no guarantee that type of player will even be available. And those two aren't even good comps to one another, as Correa was a high-ceiling high school kid out of Puerto Rico that developed faster than anyone reasonably expected, while Bryant was a college star that many felt could be fast-tracked to the Majors.

At any rate, while another top pick helps, the rebuilding effort hardly hinges on it.
3:58
Andrew Benintendi was the 8th overall pick. Chris Sale 13th. Both were in the Majors and contributing roughly a year after they were drafted. You don't necessarily know who it's going to be.
