Is Profar trade bait for starting pitching?
Steve Adams
3:59
He's going to get traded, but I don't think he's going to net any kind of impact MLB-ready starter. Maybe another change-of-scenery former top prospect, since that's what Profar himself is.
Lance Lynn

Predict  my deal please
Steve Adams
4:00
Something like $60MM over four years, which is about twice as much money and one more year than I'd want to give him. Hard pass for me on Lynn this winter.
Maddux's fate
4:00
Is Mike Maddux to be a) Nats' skipper, b) Nats' pitching coach again, c) Cubs' pitching coach, d) someone elses
Steve Adams
4:02
I feel like he's either their manager or he goes elsewhere, as whoever is hired as skipper will have a lot of say in his coaching staff. But it's pretty early to accurately gauge which is likely since the Nats haven't really even begun the interview process in earnest.

I've seen some suggest the Twins as a possible landing spot based on the Thad Levine connection. That makes some sense. Cubs would work as well. He'll be in a big league dugout somewhere next year unless he just wants some time away.

Will San Diego want the moon for Brad Hand or would Eric Gonzalez and a young reliever get it done?. It solves SD's SS issue.
Steve Adams
4:03
Gonzalez could be a utility player in the Majors, I guess, but he's 26 and has a career 306 OBP in AAA. Him plus a relief prospect (or even a young MLB reliever) isn't getting Brad Hand

James Shields went through a pretty noticeable change in his mechanics towards the end of this season that leads me to believe he can still be a decently viable end of the rotation/swing man pitcher for a contender. I don't put a ton of stock into him, but he was impressive. Could you see him as a trade candidate this winter to a team that could absorb some of his contract
Steve Adams
4:06
His drop to a three-quarters arm slot was interesting. I saw him throw a pretty decent game against the Twins with it, but then I watched another start with the same slot where he was clobbered.

If some team actually tells the Sox "Hey we'll pay $4MM of the $10MM you still owe him!" or something, I don't see why the Sox wouldn't take the opportunity to shed the cash. But I also don't think he's going to be much of a priority for any teams. The upside is minimal, and if you're a team in a comparable spot to the White Sox (those are the teams that should be making that type of move), then why not just sign a younger free agent with the same goal in mind?
Carlos Santana
4:06
Do the Indians keep me or jay Bruce or both or neither.
Steve Adams
4:07
I don't think they'll match what either can get on the open market. Starting to warm to the idea of a QO for Santana, but still pretty risky for a team with such notable payroll constraints.
Dusty's Trail
4:08
Your take on how the Nats and Lerners handled Dusty's being let go? (I thought it was bush league of them.) And if they had a backup plan, why are they taking so long to decide his successor?
Steve Adams
4:10
I don't think Rizzo would've been making on-record comments 3-4 weeks before Dusty was let go if he didn't genuinely want Baker back in 2018 and beyond. It seems to me like ownership (the Lerners) were frustrated by the NLDS exit and just told Rizzo to find someone new.

It's a tough outcome for Dusty, though I think he did make some glaring, head-scratching decisions in the postseason. You just cannot have Jayson Werth hitting second all series. Hell, I don't think Werth should've even been in the lineup.

absolutely bush for dodgers to leave granderson off ws roster.
Steve Adams
4:11
His at-bats have been terrible. It sucks for Grandy, and he's one of my favorite players in the league so it bums me out, too. But the Dodgers are trying to put themselves in their best position to end a near-three-decade drought -- tough personnel decisions come with the territory.

hey, do you guys know your app has been all wonky the last two weeks? the MLBTR page updates almost a day late as compared to the site.
Steve Adams
4:13
We haven't gotten any complaints of that nature, and my iOS app has been working fine. Could you fill out the contact form with a description of the issue, including which device and OS version you're running?

Thanks!

Martin Perez  to philly for tommy Joseph and Cameron rupp
Steve Adams
4:14
Rangers need all the arms they can get. Perez isn't great but he can at least eat innings for them.

Tommy Joseph's trade value is nil. There will be so many players just like him in free agency -- many available on minor league deals.

Nats going to make a move for a starter via trade or free agency? Who would make sense?
Steve Adams
4:16
I don't see why they wouldn't. Really, I expect them to be in on all of the top-of-the-market names. The rotation may not be a "need," but Gio's gone after one year, Roark is getting expensive and is gone after 2019. I think they'll be connected to Darvish, Arrieta and Tanaka this winter and have a non-zero chance of signing one of the three to combine with Scherzer and Stras.

Any chance the Marlins trade Justin Bour this offseason?
Steve Adams
4:19
Sure, but I think Marlins fans (and the Marlins themselves) value him a lot more than most other clubs. The free-agent market will also have tons of viable alternatives to him: Yonder Alonso, Logan Morrison, Carlos Santana -- Lucas Duda to a lesser extent.

Bour is a 1B only with marginal defensive ratings, some platoon issues against lefties ... he's not a bad player by any means, but he's also not extremely unique in terms of skill set and he'll be 30 next May.

How could Todd Frazier be worth anything more than a one year deal with his season this year
Steve Adams
4:20
The only way he could be considered a slam-dunk one-year deal candidate would be if you judged him based on his batting average.
4:21
He posted a .344 OBP with a career-high walk rate, 27 homers and above-average defense at third base per both Defensive Runs Saved and Ultimate Zone Rating.
4:22
Improved his strikeout rate, line-drive rate, hard-contact rate, exit velocity -- Frazier was a good player in 2017.

Bruce Rondon + to texas for Profar?
Steve Adams
4:22
Bruce Rondon is probably just going to get straight up non-tendered. I don't think Profar has all that much trade value but even I'd want more than Rondon for him. A lot more.
Phillies
4:23
How about Phillies sign Frazier two years 26 million then deal Franco to Yankees for Montgomery
Steve Adams
4:23
Frazier will probably get more and on no planet in no universe do the Yankees give up Montgomery for Franco right now.
Jon Bon Jovi
4:23
Who should the Twins get to make their really bad rotation not as awful?
Steve Adams
4:25
As silly as it sounds, I think the Twins and Brewers should both be after Darvish, Arrieta, Tanaka etc. They're smaller-market teams in a unique position to get one of those guys this winter. The Yankees and Giants won't spend a ton because they're aggressively trying to get under the luxury tax threshold for the 2018-19 FA class. The Red Sox aren't looking at the rotation, the Rangers are trying to pare back payroll. The Nats will have to offer deferrals to get someone of that caliber.

I don't know that I consider it likely -- it's safer to assume they'll be in on Cobb, Lynn, etc. -- but this is a good opportunity, and they've got very little money on the books beyond 2018.

If I remember correctly, I believe Jeff Todd predicts Chatwood signing for approximately 1/$5M or 2/$8M this offseason. Seems awfully low to me. What say you?
Steve Adams
4:26
I don't think he was that low -- he's not anymore anyway. We've been talking about Chatty a lot lately. Think Tim and Jeff are firmly at two years -- I'm in the three-year camp.

Any chance the Mets resign Addison Reed?
