What do u think of my left hand man Jose Alvarado? His spring has been 🔥🔥🔥
Steve Adams
3:22
Seriously, what the actual hell is that pitch? That's obscene
Canning
3:22
tommy John for me?
Steve Adams
3:23
Angels have said there's no tear -- at least not one that is plainly apparent on the initial wave of tests/scans.
Could still miss some time, obviously, but based on the information that they've put forth, I don't expect that right now.

Braves 3b job?  Camargo, Riley, or some trade?
Steve Adams
3:25
It'll be one of those two -- I think that'll be largely decided by how they perform over the next three weeks. If you want me to guess right now, I'd say Riley, but that's not a particularly confident prediction or anything. I think it's legitimately open for either player to seize.

3:26
Most likely newest Yankee: Matz, Boyd, Archer?
Steve Adams
3:27
Between now an Opening Day? None of the above.

This summer? Archer is the likeliest of the three to be traded in general. Boyd is likelier than Matz, and I don't believe the Mets would trade him to the Yankees even if they did move him.

Can the Giants be relevant this year?
Steve Adams
3:29
They can outplay the Rockies?

I don't think they're going to be in even the Wild Card picture, though, no.
Puig No One’s Friend
3:30
Wtf is up with Puig? Will he even be on a team on opening day?
Steve Adams
3:32
He almost certainly entered the offseason looking for more money than anyone wanted to sign him for, and now most teams have reached the budgetary limits ownership has placed on their respective front offices (and/or already filled up their OF corners).

A big multi-year deal for him never seemed likely, even though it seemed likely that he'd ask for one. That's why we predicted him to sign for only a year and $8MM back in November.

The right injury around the league could still get him a nice one-year deal, and maybe that's what he's waiting on right now.
FWIW -- Adam Eaton left the Nationals' game after the first inning with an injury on which the team has yet to issue an update.
3:33
Could be something completely minor, but if we see a starting RF/LF on a good team go down, Puig's reps are going to be on the phone ASAP.

Thoughts on Sale injury?
Steve Adams
3:35
Zero sense speculating right now. He's getting an MRI, and that's the extent of what is publicly -- and probably privately -- known. I'm not going to make any proclamations about timeline or potential for Tommy John surgery or anything irresponsible like that. A lot of you have asked, but that's the best anyone can reasonably do right now. There's a good chance Andrews hasn't even reviewed the MRI yet.

Has anyone checked in on Addison Russell this offseason at all?? Haven’t seen his name mentioned anywhere...
Steve Adams
3:37
His bat has been 23% worse than league average over the past two seasons (77 OPS+), and I doubt teams are rushing to inquire on him in light of the domestic violence issues.
Uh-Oh
3:38
What contract is worse Myers or Hosmer?
Steve Adams
3:38
Hosmer

Who starts opening day for the Red Sox?
Steve Adams
3:38
Eduardo Rodriguez, most likely.

Speaking of Archer, what other Pirates could be on the move to contenders if Pitt goes into sell mode?  Kela? Polanco if he stays healthy?
Steve Adams
3:41
Kela for sure, as he's a free agent next winter. Jarrod Dyson, too. Derek Holland, assuming he makes the club.

Joe Musgrove and Josh Bell would be at 2.5 years of control remaining this summer, so they'd at least be floated out there.

I can see a healthy Polanco, too, but it's been a good while since we've seen that.

3:41
Puig a fit in Pittsburgh? Their current lineup is so left-handed it's gauche.
Steve Adams
3:42
Sure he's an on-paper fit -- play Reynolds in CF more often, reduce Dyson's role, etc. -- but I'm not expecting the Pirates to shell out $8MM+ on him.
Alex Wood Superfan
3:42
Wood ERA 3.98 O/U?
Steve Adams
3:43
If he's healthy I'll easily take the under. I love Alex Wood on a per-inning basis, but his delivery is really violent looking and he's racking up quite the injury history at this point.

3:46
How can the Mets consider trading Matz? The only lefty in rotation, injuries behind him, home grown. Unless someone bowls us over, I pass
Steve Adams
3:47
The only real way they would consider it would be if they were overwhelmed, I think. I tried to imply as much in yesterday's post on that; they have tons of rotation options, but Porcello/Wacha are pure rebound guys and the rest of the 40-man options are fringey

Rangers starting rotation looks like the best in the AL West.  Your thoughts?
Steve Adams
3:49
I'd take the Oakland group
Possibly the 'Stros, too. Verlander/Cole is a high-end one-two, and McCullers/Urquidy could easily end up as a quality three-four.

Cleveland's bullpen is scary and not in a good way. Do you see them signing someone, or maybe trading some of that overstocked pile of outfielders for someone....anyone?
Steve Adams
3:52
There's not much left to sign outside of some dice-roll rebound guys. The Indians' actions have made it pretty clear that ownership didn't give Antonetti, Chernoff and Co. much room to work. I don't expect much more from them.

3:53
Does Andrew Stevenson have options left?  What about Michael A?
Steve Adams
3:53
Taylor no. Stevenson yes. Good reminder to get our annual spring Out Of Options list up. We'll try to get that up in the next few days.

3:54
Cole? Astros? is this 2019?
