Steve Adams
2:06
Greetings! Somewhere amid yesterday's Brewers/Rowdy Tellez deal, the Dodgers DFA'ing Souza and Bud Black declaring German Marquez was going nowhere, I spaced on the fact that it was Tuesday/chat day
2:07
Apologies on that, so please accept this impromptu makeup!
Trader Joe

Austin Riley and Drew Waters for J-Ram. Who says no?
Steve Adams
2:08
Not enough for the Indians to part with Ramirez, whom I don't expect to be available anyway.
Let the Old Men Play
2:08
How much sense does a Joey Gallo make for the Giants?
Steve Adams
2:09
He makes perfect sense for the Giants, but he'd also fit with the Padres, White Sox, A's ... most contenders could find a way to get Gallo's power and glove into the lineup.
Cards

Do we make any moves for pitching?
Steve Adams
2:12
They're far enough back in the division at this point that I have to think they need to make up a bit of ground before parting with anything too substantial. I've been saying for weeks they should be focused on starters controlled into 2022 and beyond. I still believe that, but if they're 10-12 games out by the time the deadline rolls around, it's going to limit their aggression and might even just push them to sell some short-term guys, since it looks like we're getting two NL Wild Card teams from the West.
Hoyer
2:12
Let the sell off begin.
Steve Adams
2:12
Yeah, not long ago I was of the mindset that the Cubs had to take a cautious approach but still add pieces this summer. Losing 11 straight games is a real quick way to change the script.
2:14
I would think Jed Hoyer, their president of baseball ops, and his staff are almost relieved, honestly. This was clearly the plan dating back to the offseason -- dump Darvish, move some veterans at the deadline, jumpstart the rebuild. Bryant has hit well enough to build a lot of value back up. Kimbrel is suddenly not only not an albatross but once again a powerhouse. I think the Cubs will come out of the break looking to move some pieces.
Perry Minasian
2:14
Do I trade or keep Raisel Iglesias?
Steve Adams
2:15
Barring a surge where the Angels crawl back to within 3 or 4 games of the division lead, I think Raisel will be traded -- and bring back more than the Angels gave up for him. (Which seems obvious given that they gave up next to nothing to get him)
Cleveland
2:16
Adam Eaton to Cleveland?
Steve Adams
2:16
He's hitting .201/.298/.344 and
Whoops

...and .179/.263/.300 since the third week of the year.
I don't know that he's a better option than anyone they have in house at the moment. They certainly won't claim the remaining salary. Could take a more or less free look once the White Sox release him.

Closers/late inning relievers are always among the most moved pieces at the deadline...who are the likely candidates besides Richard Rodriguez, Yimi Garcia, etc?
Steve Adams
2:19
Kimbrel, Kendall Graveman, Ian Kennedy (having a very nice rebound in Texas), Taylor Rogers, Raisel Iglesias, Daniel Bard all come to mind off the top of my head.
Jesus Luzardo
2:19
Can I be fixed in the minors and reach my potential as a frontline starter?
Steve Adams
2:19
He's 23. Yes.
ross
2:20
what do i do with semien? resign him? or wait for groshans or martin to force their way up
Steve Adams
2:22
Make the qualifying offer the A's should have made and try to bring him back on a four-year deal? He's playing so well that I imagine he'll be looking for five-plus and $100MM+ this winter, though, and I doubt the Jays go there. He's been great for them though, so I don't think you let the presence of Jordan Groshans and Austin Martin prevent a deal from happening if the price is to their liking.
German Marquez
2:22
Now that Black said I won't be traded, where am I going to be traded?
Steve Adams
2:24
Bud Black said ownership and the front office don't want to trade him, and that they've told Marquez himself he won't be traded. It's pretty hard to turn around and trade a guy at that point. I know Black isn't making the decision, but I have no reason to doubt him. Telling the world "We told this player we aren't trading him" and then trading him anyway isn't going to do you any favors with future free agent and extension negotiations.
I saw a lot of people yesterday suggesting, "Yeah but teams say this all the time."

Not on the record like that, they don't.

Hey Steve! What would it take for the Twins to send Berrios to the Mets?
Steve Adams
2:27
I've been of the mind that for the Twins to trade Berrios, they need a 2022 replacement for him and multiple high-end prospects. For the Mets, I guess that could be David Peterson and then a few pieces from the top of the farm, but broadly speaking I think the price on Berrios is going to be through the roof.

If what Andy Martino reported yesterday is accurate -- that the Mets don't want to part with the top names in their system -- then Berrios isn't a realistic target for them.

How close are the Tigers to becoming buyers, via trade and free-agency?
Steve Adams
2:28
I think they'll start adding some more win-now pieces this coming offseason. Mize and Skubal are looking good. Torkelson and Greene are on the cusp. Manning hasn't impressed yet but has emerged as an option, at least. Turnbull is solid.

What are the Yankees supposed to do here? They've already said they won't sell, but they can't just DFA or trade half their lineup, right?
Steve Adams
2:31
Well, Hal Steinbrenner said that he wasn't contemplating selling in early July. If the Yankees continue this nosedive and are under .500, 12+ back in the division and 8-10 back in the Wild Card ... it's hard not to sell SOME pieces at that point. Doesn't mean they give Judge and Gleyber to the highest bidder, but Zack Britton (assuming health), Chad Green, etc. -- they'd have some names to shop around.

Who are the likeliest Cubs to be moved at the deadline?
Steve Adams
2:33
Bryant, Davies and Kimbrel seem like the three likeliest to me. (Sorry, had to answer a quick phone call and tell them I'd call back)
Nelson Cruz
2:33
Which team do I get to hit bombas for in October?
Steve Adams
2:34
Writing about this for our Front Office subscribers today. A's DHs are hitting .216/.287/.381 this season. I can't think of a lineup he'd more meaningfully upgrade.

Nats are in no mans land.. Feels bad.
Steve Adams
2:37
They're 4.5 back in the division even though they've been missing some key players for much of the season. I don't think that's "no man's land," and I'm sure they'd rather be a bit caught in the middle than just be buried in the division and WC race. That whole division is wide open still, for the most part.

Will most teams start pulling the trigger before the draft - unlike the Rockies?  Will big names not happen until a fews days before?  I lost my crystal ball, could use some help ..
