Another week, another chat -- away we go.

Tatis was wrong for what he did last night
Steve Adams
2:08
Chris Woodward, is that you?
Ahhhh:

he should've never apologized lol
Steve Adams
2:08
Got me!
And yeah, he should never have apologized.
2:10
The very notion of apologizing for actually trying in a game is so freaking backwards. Most "unwritten rules" are straight up garbage, and this is certainly among them. I loved Marc Carig's point that the same people mad at him for swinging 3-0 with a 7-run lead would've shredded him for jogging on a grounder to first in the same context
2:11
Play the game start to finish. No lead is ever truly safe. Oh, and dingers and RBIs are two of the primary factors in arbitration, where millions are on the line for these athletes. But yes, take a pitch to spare the pitcher or something. I'm more befuddled that Tatis' own manager disapproved. Absolute hogwash.

Christian Vazquez is under control for cheap in 21 and 22. Would have a good trade value if the Red Sox put him on the block this week?
Steve Adams
2:12
Yeah -- even if most people attribute last year's breakout to the juiced ball, we're still seeing comparable HR/FB rates throughout the league, which suggests there may not be a full correction. Beyond that, he's a good defender who is owed a total of $13.25MM from 2021-22 -- and the second year of that is an option, so there's protection if he has a major injury.

am I the only one that thinks Tatis Jr did the right thing? If a manager doesn't like the opposing players hitting home runs/grand slams then don't load the bases
Steve Adams

The overwhelming majority of responses throughout baseball and its fan base agree, from what I've seen

Which Seager brother are you drafting earlier next season?

Gore or Skubal?  Who will have the better career?
Steve Adams
2:14
Give me Gore, easily. (No disrespect to Skubal)

With the Angels going nowhere, do you move Bundy?
Steve Adams
2:15
Have to consider it. His stock is through the roof, and with so many teams avoiding rentals, I'd wager the Halos would get more than they gave up to get him.

What are some possible bullpen names the Dbacks could target?
Steve Adams
2:16
Any of the Royals veterans should be available (Trevor Rosenthal, Greg Holland, Ian Kennedy), although they've been there/done that with Holland and Kennedy. Red Sox should have Barnes, Hembree and Workman available. I'd wager the Orioles are open to either Givens or Castro. Pirates will absolutely trade Keone Kela if he's healthy.

When will the Rangers finally pull the plug on Odor?
Steve Adams
2:19
It's harder and harder to keep running him out there. He's been one of the worst hitters if not the worst hitter in MLB for three of the past four seasons. I'd be looking for any creative way I could come up with to dump him this winter, and I have a hard time seeing him last into the 2021 regular season barring some kind of miracle turnaround.

Phillies have to pay JT whatever he wants don't they? Harper and him might be the best duo in the league.
Steve Adams
2:20
I mean if he wants 8/200, no, they don't. But if it's within the realm of rational thinking, I'd be inclined to think so. That'll ultimately come down to their owner, John Middleton, though.

Who says no in a clevanger for Kyle Lewis offer?
Steve Adams
2:24
I have a hard time seeing the Mariners push in major young talent to acquire a player who currently has two more seasons of control after 2020. Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto suggested recently that if he were to acquire pieces at the deadline, it'd be more of a young, controllable player for another young, controllable player situation.

Maybe that means he'd be interested in something like Plesac for Lewis, but man, the PR hit of trading an already hugely popular Lewis for someone whose image is as tarnished as Plesac right now ... that video he made just sounded so bad.

2:24
Other than JD/Workman, who are the Red Sox likely to move before the deadline?
Steve Adams
2:24
Barnes, Hembree, Vazquez maybe -- I think pretty much anyone but Devers/Bogaerts gets talked about.
Mr Roctober
2:25
With Trout, Rendon, and Ohtani, don't the Angels need to stay in win now mode for the foreseeable future and not trade away starting pitching for prospects?
Steve Adams
2:26
Sure, but Bundy is only controlled through next season. They could justify the move as a huge sell-high flip and come out better than they were before they acquired him in the first place. They'll be actively looking for pitching again this winter with or without Bundy on the roster.

What kind of package should the Pirates expect back for Kela?
Steve Adams
2:28
It's 5-6 weeks of a reliever; I don't think it'd be a particularly strong return, to be honest. Could be as simple as a PTBNL that turns into a mid-ranked prospect in the Pirates' system. The market for rentals, particularly relievers, seems like it'll be pretty tepid (at least in terms of value surrendered)
But if you're the Pirates, that's better than letting Kela walk for nothing.

conforto for clevinger, who says no. Seems like Cleveland needs an OFer, and the mets have too many Corner guys.
Steve Adams
2:30
I've thought about that, but it's complicated by the fact that Conforto is more expensive and controlled for less time. Cleveland would need to be really fed up with Clevinger to move 2.5 seasons of him for 1.5 of a more-expensive Conforto.
2:31
That said, I really like Michael Conforto and think he's an underrated hitter. And that's not entirely dissimilar from the Mets adding Stroman last year -- though they didn't subtract from the current product to do so.
Trade?
2:31
Yastremski and 2 decent prospects for Clevinger. Who says no?
Steve Adams
2:32
Again, you're talking about a rebuilding team parting with long-term value -- guys they control for 5+ years -- for 2.5 seasons of a starter. I don't think players in Clevinger's service class are generally the type the Giants will pursue.

Man, Brusdar Graterol slipped past Bloom, huh?
