Is Jose Bautista a good comp for JD Martinez, given the late development due to a shift in mechanics? Does JDM stay as effective for as long or was Bautista a better hitter in approach before the change?
Dave Cameron
12:36
Bautista was a low-K, high-BB guy who ran low BABIPs. Martinez is a high-K, moderate-BB guy who runs very high BABIPs. They are very different.

Where does your gut say Ohtani lands?
Dave Cameron
12:37
LA.

Thoughts on the Anthopoulos hire?
Dave Cameron
12:37
Pretty good outcome for ATL. Probably the best kind of guy they were going to get to come into that situation right now.

Do you think Tanaka could have gotten more than 3/67 in the market?
Dave Cameron
12:38
Total, yes. Per year, no.

Would anyone object to MLB making an exception to the international free agent rules for Ohtani?
Dave Cameron
12:41
The owners, every other international player in a similar situation.

What do you remember about the first MLB game you attended?
Dave Cameron
12:42
I went to a Mariners-Red Sox game where Oil Can Boyd was starting, and we made a "kick the can" sign that I was very proud of.

For Otani, might it make sense for an MLB team to pitch him less often, say 1 time per week, so that he can play ~3 days per week in the field. If we assume he needs the day before a start, the day after a start and 1 extra day between starts, this might be a creative way to maximize his value
Dave Cameron
12:42
Problem is it shuffles everyone else's routine.
12:43
This is one of the reasons I think an NL team is a better fit.
Let him pinch hit for the other P every day.
And hit for himself when he does pitch.
He'll get ~200 PAs and not have to play in any games when he's not starting.

Over/under wRC+ of 100 for Ohtani? I think he'll struggle at the plate.
Dave Cameron
12:44
Yeah, I'd probably go under. Maybe he turns into a good hitter with more reps, but most 23 year olds aren't big league average hitters, and that's just focusing on hitting.

If Trout were a FA this winter (no extension), would he break $600MM?  $700MM?
Dave Cameron
12:46
Depends on opt-outs and such. But yeah, over $600M.

Profar was #1 prospect in baseball in 2013 and is still only 25.  Please elaborate on why you believe he is not worth much, squared.
Dave Cameron
12:47
The last four years happened.

Is there a database of pitchf/x data with the unit of observation being the pitch, where I can example find all the pitches for a particular pitcher's start or season?

which team would be more appalled about a Betances for Matt Carpenter trade proposal?
Dave Cameron
12:48
The Cardinals

What is the weirdest offseason trade rumor you've heard that ended up being true? Any memorable ones?
Dave Cameron
12:49
That Jake McGee/Corey Dickerson one, probably.

Who has the higher current trade value - David Robertson or Zach Britton?  Both paid ~13M next year, Britton higher ceiling but now an injury risk
Dave Cameron
12:50
Britton.

Otani argument: he’s coming now because he wants the money. If he stays in Japan, he runs the risk of getting hurt in the next two years. Instead, he is coming over now and can immediately sign an extension that was negotiated under the table.
Dave Cameron
12:50
No, he can't.
MLB would void any immediate extension.

Any good tips for parents with a toddler entering the Terrible 2s? What's your strategy for getting them to want to go to sleep at night, for instance?
Dave Cameron
12:53
I will preface this with our kid didn't really have terrible 2s, so maybe we just got really lucky, or our lives are about to crash down upon us when he's a terrible 3 instead. But so far, I've found that incentive-based parenting actually works pretty well with our little guy. Rather than forcing him to do things or threatening to take things away/punish him, he will do what we want if he knows it gets him something he wants later.
