OK kids, we will start our chat shortly so get ready....

OK, here we go...

Does it really matter who the quarterback is if he has no ability to audible at the line of scrimmage? What are we doing here if you can't trust your quarterback to make adjustments when the defense dictates it, especially one that may be enshrined in Canton one day?

Oh wow, right off the bat....Pay the man!!

Gerry:  Tomlin has had his detractors for years, but do you ever recall a time in Steeler history (1988 maybe?) when there was such a high portion of the fan base that wanted a new coach?  Similarly, has there ever been a time since 1972 when there was such widespread anger and disgust for how the Rooney family is running the franchise?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
I can't, to be honest
Tom
9:55
I keep hearing that Tomlin likes a mobile quarterback. Honestly, would any opposing defensive coordinator really be scared that he would utilize that weapon? He had Fields and not 1 RPO was run, but rather his "no turnover, no TD's, Tomlin ball" was still used.
Gerry Dulac
9:56
I dont think they scared too many opposing DCs, for whatever reason
Tom
9:56
Next year, if Fields starts or Tomlin drafts his mobile QB what is the over under for total number of RPO's they would run? I bet no more than 5 all year!
Gerry Dulac
9:56
I think I'll go over

Experts questioned Najee's receiving ability coming out of college due to the fact he just wasn't utilized that way. He came out and had some really nice catches his first year. Since then he seemed to be forgotten immediately if the ball wasn't handed directly off to him. Minimal screens, no wheel routes, no release/slant routes, etc. Do you think he was underutilized? Like Saquon, did he get the short stick in his career with awful stone age coordinators?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
You're right about that -- he has not been utilized as a receiver like he was as a rookie. And he looked pretty adept at it then. A lot of that has fallen to Jaylen Warren.

Gerry: Do you want to comment on Aditi K's theory that your scoop was a plant by Wilson's camp to make Smith look like the problem for the collapse?  I suppose alternatively could it have been embellished by people inside the Steelers that prefer Wilson?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
I don't know who that is

Gerry:  thank you for the great reporting on the Smith-Fields play changing "scandal".  When AJRII met with the media, he said that you need a QB that can "read the defense and get the team in a play that does good against the defense he is looking at" even if the QB is not mobile.  At the time that comment was viewed as an endorsement of Wilson over Fields.  How should we view those comments now after your story?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Maybe the same, eh?
Dalton

Is there any sense from the organization that they are clearly leaning toward Fields over Wilson at this point? Or does it feel 50/50. Thanks Gerry!
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Right now, I'm not sure if they are "clearly" leaning one way or another because I know there is something of a split sentiment.

Since Tomlin is returning as the de facto defensive coordinator can we really expect anything to meaningfully improve on the defensive side of things?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Well...uh....er.....hmmmmmm....
Steelman
10:02
Ben Roethlisberger on his podcast agreed with Julian Edelmans sentiment (and pretty much everyone elses) that the Steelers defense doesn't change and is essentially predictable, why does Rooney refuse to make Tomlin give up control to a DC? Everyone
Gerry Dulac
10:03
That's a good question. Maybe the head coach should be able to see that it's time to do things differently.

Good morning Gerry. Out of these 4 QB’s, who do you like if any for Steelers to draft. Dart, Howard, McCord or Milroe?  And do you think they will draft a QB this year?  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I don't think they will draft one this year, not in the first round,  and the only way they would is if they decided to re-sign Wilson and let him mentor the No. 1 pick for a year. But, to your question, I'd pick the Ohio State kid.

Hello Sir Gerry thy noble insider; if a team called the Steelers pre draft and asked “which players at any position are available for trade?” Who are the biggest names you believe the Steelers would give them options for?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I think the list would start with George Pickens.

Good Morning Gerry!  I enjoyed your article on Russ and Art. As for the dispute between the two, should it be between Russ and Tomilin as Starkey's follow up opinion article suggests?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Tomlin is responsible for managing all "disputes."

There have been  a few dominant NFL teams in my 58 years on this earth.  So since a team has never hoisted the trophy three years in a row, is Kansas City the best NFL team ever if they win?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
They could certainly be in the discussion

Gerry: when Ben was playing his age 39 and final season, Tomlin/Canada took away probably Ben's greatest remaining strength, changing to the right play at the line.  All so that he could run Canada's play call instead.  This was malpractice and I guess the lunacy continues.  Tomlin thought he was better than LeBeau as a DC, better than Ben as the field general, better than Russ.  He thinks he gets more from a steak dinner with draft prospects than the scouting department gets from watching 3-4 years of film on a player.  He thinks he doesn't even need good assistants.  3 years and $50m more from now, will the madness end in 2028?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
That's a long time to wait, isn't it??
Rooney
10:07
Draft two DT, another OL, make Fields your QB, draft a QB every year until you find one. Get rid of Pickens, sign free agent WR. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
A bit extreme, but I'll at least go with two DL, but only if one is taken Thursday and the other one on Friday. Forget anything after that
Seferg
10:09
Given the importance of the qb position, are there any qb's that if they fell to pittsburgh in the first round you would take over the other needs or would you rather wait for another year?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Well, if everyone wants to keep complaining about the defense, then continuing to ignore the D-line -- the biggest weakness on the team -- will only heighten the griping. They are in a better position now at QB with Fields than they were two years ago when they drafted Pickett.

Recent end of year presser with ARII cited run the ball better, then score more points - Neither happened. Now it’s stop the run. Where are they at? Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
My thoughts? Stop thinking you are a run-first team because 1) You're not good enough to do that, and 2) That isn't the way the game is played in the NFL.

Gerry, If the Steelers are to keep a run-oriented team, what's the point of drafting receivers?  Might as well sign the after-market, second tier free agents, like Van Jefferson, for the foreseeable time being.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
They better junk that run-oriented mentality. It's OK to be able to run the ball, but you better have the people to be able to throw it. Bill Cowher: Throw early to run late.
