Our weekly live chat will begin in less than an hour. Get your questions in early (or during the chat) and I'll get to as many as I can between 12-1pm CT!
11:59
Hey guys! I may have to duck out a couple minutes early today, so let's get started a couple minutes early here...

If pg and kawhi are out all year, do Clippers punt on the season? And sell off veterans?
Luke Adams
12:00
I wouldn't expect a fire sale or anything, but it's safe to assume they won't be giving up any assets for short-term help, and I could see them trying to move a veteran or two to reduce their tax bill.
GLeague contracts
12:00
Is Harry Giles eligible for a 2-Way Contract? He was Drafted 4 years ago but missed his Rookie year due to his Knee injury. So he has only 3-years of NBA Experience. I believe the Rule says players with 4 or Less years of NBA experience are eligible. Is that based on Draft year or true NBA Experience?  Asking for a friend.
Luke Adams
12:02
A player who spends any time on an NBA roster during the regular season earns a year of service for that season even if he doesn't appear in a game, so Giles technically has four years of service and would be in his fifth season in 2021/22. That would make him ineligible for a two-way.
Spinning Bull
12:02
I really don’t think Jerami Grant is a good fit with the Bulls and they should try to fill the PF hole with a cheaper short term veteran, who else is plausible?
Luke Adams
12:03
It's difficult to come up with many guys who are the type of PF that would fit with the Bulls (ie. not someone like Derrick Favors who's really a center) and who would be attainable at a reasonable price.
12:04
Guys like Kenrich Williams, Dorian Finney-Smith, Harrison Barnes, Grant, etc. would be nice fits, but they'd cost more than the Bulls would want to part with.
It's too bad the Bulls are ineligible to reacquire Thaddeus Young, because he's the sort of player who would make sense at Chicago's preferred price point.

Which team has a better chance of selling there players and go on a full rebuild? The Pacers, TrailBlazers, Kings, or Spurs?
Luke Adams
12:05
I don't expect any of those teams to launch a full-fledged rebuild at the deadline. The Spurs already have some foundational pieces in place, the Pacers' owner doesn't like the idea of an all-out fire sale, and the Kings' owner badly wants to make the playoffs.
12:06
I suppose that leaves the Blazers as the best candidate, but that depends on your definition of a "full" rebuild -- Lillard isn't going anywhere, but a lot of other guys on the roster (including Nurkic, Covington, Nance, and even CJ) theoretically could.

Sam Amick said on his latest pod that the Kings are seriously contemplating moving for the Ben Simmons + Tobias Harris package...what would that look like in your opinion?
Luke Adams
12:08
Fox, Hield, and Barnes would be the easiest way to match the salaries and to get the Sixers the sort of return they'd want, but I'm not swapping out those three guys for Simmons and Harris is a net win for Sacramento.

What 3 teams are you most expecting a trade from? Even if it's minor (Example: Jazz trading Miye Oni before his contract became guaranteed)
Luke Adams
12:10
Would be pretty shocked if the Thunder, Pacers, or Blazers stood pat. Rockets too. The presumed sellers are the safest bets to be active since there are way fewer of them than potential buyers.
Thon Maker sighting
12:10
I heard Thon was going to Sign a GLeague contract but not sure with what Organization that was with.  Any status updates on him?  Is he stateside now?
Luke Adams
12:11
Haven't heard anything lately. There was a report just before Christmas stating that he had been offered a G League contract, but no confirmation that he ever signed it.

Reports this morning have Frank Vogel on the hot seat in LA. Is it as simple as a lack of energy and discipline on defense ... or does that roster need a major overhaul? What would you do?
Luke Adams
12:13
It's a weird roster. The Lakers had by far the least roster continuity of any team over the offseason, Westbrook always seemed like an odd fit, and it's hard to rely on a roster made up almost exclusively of max- and min-salary guys when the max-salary guys have a hard time all staying healthy at once.
That doesn't mean Vogel has done a flawless job, but the problems definitely go deeper than him.

3 way deal                         Knicks get: Jalen Brunson      Mavs get: Myles Turner, Solomon Hill                       Pacers get: 2023 DAL 1st round pick (via NY), Dallas 2025 1st round pick, Dwight Powell, Dorian Finney-Smith, Miles McBride                                   Who says no?
Luke Adams
12:14
Mavs say no. That's way too much to give up for Turner, especially now that his health is a major question mark.
12:15
On a related note, a bunch of Turner-related questions came in about an hour ago that I likely won't answer, since his foot injury changes his market entirely. The Pacers won't get fair value for him as long as he's out with that injury, so I wouldn't be surprised if they hang onto him through the deadline now.

12:16
I'm curious about what the Wizards will do at the deadline. They have 3 centers, 7 forwards and no effective true point guard. They have more players than minutes and seem to be the perfect candidate for a consolidation trade. What type of move do you forsee?
Luke Adams
12:18
They've been mentioned as a player in the Jerami Grant sweepstakes, which I think would make sense for them -- a defensive-minded forward would be a good fit, and they have younger players (Hachimura, Avdija, etc.) they could put into an offer to avoid having to sacrifice too many draft assets.
Tom Emanski
12:18
Could something like Patrick Williams, Coby White, and Derrick Jones/Troy Brown land John Collins (with picks/pick swaps possibly being involved)?  Bulls land the starting 4 and interior presence they need.  Hawks get rid of a disgruntled player and shake up a roster that badly needs a shakeup, not to mention they acquire younger players they can either build with or package with some of their current guys to land a bigger fish.
Luke Adams
12:19
I'm skeptical that the Hawks would seriously consider a John Collins trade that doesn't bring back an impact player (like Ben Simmons). They were in the Eastern Finals last season -- they're not looking to auction off starters for young players and draft picks.

As a Sixers’ fan, I just don’t get the focus on Lillard and Harden….both are not getting any younger and are up for massive, cap crippling contracts which won’t age well at all.  I get the superstar objective for Morey, but do you think they are really the top pieces Morey wants in return for a younger guy like Simmons?
Luke Adams
12:21
Coming into the season, Lillard and Harden looked like ideal trade targets for the Sixers because they'd be such great fits alongside Embiid, given their ability to both pass and shoot. They've both shown their age a little this season, so I understand your concerns and I'd be wary of locking in either player to a long-term extension. But I think as long as they're healthy, they'd raise Philadelphia's ceiling in a major way in the next couple seasons.

Is Tyler Herro a Max Player after his rookie contract expires?
Luke Adams
12:22
I don't see him getting the max, but a $100MM contract isn't out of the question if he maintains his current level of production.

Utah seems stuck, with perimeter defense lacking, they made sense as a Cam Reddish destination to give them more youth and athleticism on the wing while only having to give up a future pick. Who are some wings that they could trade for, either using Favors' trade exception or Ingles/Bogdanovic contracts?
Luke Adams
12:26
Harrison Barnes would look great on that roster but if the Kings are willing to trade him, they could probably get offers stronger than Utah's. Kenrich Williams is a target I like for them if they're willing to give the Thunder more draft assets.

The Knicks seem to be in no man’s land right now. Not bad enough to tank and not good enough to compete. Where do they go from here?
Luke Adams
12:27
Unlike some other teams in no-man's land, the Knicks are in a pretty good position in terms of tradable contracts, future draft assets, etc. There's no reason to panic -- if they can't turn things around in the second half, they'll have a lot of options in the offseason.

I think the Warriors stand Pat at the deadline and wait for buyout candidates later. I think they like their roster too much to give up anyone. Am I right?
Luke Adams
12:30
Yeah, of all the contenders, it feels like the Warriors are the most likely one to stand pat. As long as they're healthy and they remain unwilling to move the young guys, they're good enough to compete for a title and they don't have any blatant holes.
(I know many Warriors fans want them to add another center, but I don't really see that as a major hole if Green, Looney, and Wiseman are healthy in time for the playoffs)
