What do think is the wolves biggest need at this point?   A 3rd pt guard or another shooting guard?  Possibly pf depth?
Dana Gauruder
11:05
Those issues goes to show how far the Timberwolves have come. Previously, fans would be worried about the starting cast around Towns. They've got Anderson and Prince to back up Towns, though maybe you'd a more traditional PF on the roster. As for the backcourt, comes down to whether you're comfortable with Rivers/Nowell getting more PT if injuries strike. Forbes was a nice addition at shooting guard, so I think they're good there. So perhaps another true point or traditional PF would be my recommendation.

Who do you think should start at PF for the Grizzlies while JJJ  is out?
Dana Gauruder
11:14
It's more important who starts rather than who finishes but ideally you'd like to have someone who stretch the D. I don't trust that Adams is suddenly going to become a reliable 3-point threat. That's why it's tough to put Clarke out there with the 1st unit -- 3-pointers are not his game. So it comes down to Aldama and LaRavia -- whichever they feel could fit as a stretch 4. Maybe get away with a smaller group and go with Williams vs. certain opponents.

Crowder..is this guy going to be traded this week and will the Suns get a decent return back?
Dana Gauruder
11:16
While I'm sure the Suns would like to resolve the situation, I don't believe they feel compelled to take the best offer they've got right now. They can afford to be patient and perhaps a contender loses a starting forward to injury early on and looks at Crowder as his replacement. The situation changes if the Suns stumble out of the gate but I don't think a trade is imminent.

Odds that I lose Charles Bassey and/or Isaiah Joe to waivers? In Bassey's case, I save the slight guarantee and in Joe's case, there's potential interest in a two-way deal
Dana Gauruder
11:21
The way Bassey's contract is structured, I don't see him being claimed. Not sure if they want him back with the 15th spot. I think they'd like Joe back -- that was more of a contractual move to avoid a salary guarantee -- but there might be a team out there who sees him as a rotation player and would be willing to pick up that salary. So, not sure if he clears waivers. If he does, I could see him re-signing on a more team friendly deal.

I've heard the idea floated to move Brooks to the 4 and start Ziaire at the 3. I like that lineup pending the opposing teams 4. Probably not against teams like the Lakers or Wolves with big traditional PFs. I think it'll end being Aldama. An additional reason being that it gives the organization a good look at what he can be and whether they should continue to invest in him.
Dana Gauruder
11:22
That's the way I'd lean in that situation. Clarke can be a real force off the bench but his lack of consistent 3-point stroke makes it difficult to play him with Adams for long stretches.

What is a successful season for the Kings? How long will Fox/Sabonis experiment last
Dana Gauruder
11:27
Got to make it to the play-in tournament at minimum. Considering the depth of good teams in West, it would be a very successful season if they could make the top 6. As for the latter question, we've got to see how this season shakes. Can the Kings play well enough of defensively with Sabonis at the 5? That's a bigger deal, in my estimation. Fox and Sabonis will give you plenty at the offensive end on a regular basis with their scoring and playmaking. Sabonis is also a prolific rebounder. Would be nice if he had a better 3-point stroke but ultimately, it comes down to whether this group can defend well enough to end the postseason drought.
11:30
On a side note, it was interesting that they cut loose Bazemore and Cook today. A couple of veteran players that apparently didn't impress enough in camp to get a spot on the 15-man. An indication that their roster is shaping up well.
11:33
We're going to see a huge amount of roster moves over the next few days. Saturday in particular will be a day when teams will have to tip their hand about their opening night roster.
11:37
If there's a team to watch in terms of a potential trade before opening night, I'd put my money on the Jazz. Ainge isn't going to give guys away but it's going to be awkward to have the likes of Clarkson, Beasley, etc. on the roster of a team at the start of a rebuild.

What will the Pistons do with Bagley sidelined?
11:40
They've had some frontcourt injuries during the preseason, that being the most significant. It should open the door for more PT for Duren in the early stages. If he shows he can hold his own, perhaps he doesn't spend as much time in G League as previously anticipated. The other beneficiary should be Livers. He should see 20-25 minutes of action during the early weeks of the sason.

The Celtics are hyping Sam Huaser as a rotation player. What do you think Of Hauser as a player and what would you expect him to contribute this year on offense and defense ?
Dana Gauruder
11:42
It's all predicated on him knocking down those 3s. He's impressed a lot of coaches and teammates with that stroke. He certainly did that at Marquette during his college days. I could see him securing a 12-15 minute role this season.

this year is giving a bad feeling of all teams on the fringes deliberately tanking for Wemby with the remainder competing for the chip. Do you see most teams 8 seed and lower trying to avoid POFF’s just for a minor chance at getting him? It just feels like it’ll ruin competition this year.
Dana Gauruder
11:45
The odds are so low regarding those teams at the bottom of the lottery that it will factor in their thinking. If you're in the 11-15 range, you've got a 3 percent chance of less of getting the top pick. I can't recollect if/when that's ever happened. It's those teams that aren't going anywhere that start holding out players with or without injuries in order to marginally improve their chances.

What's w SAS saying Draymond Green and Kyrie headed to LAL next yr?
Dana Gauruder
11:49
He says a lot of things to stir the pot. For pure entertainment value off the court, it would be fun to see that duo - with all their baggage -- joining AD and LeBron. Does Draymond really want to opt out and bet on himself? That's the first thing. Do LeBron and Kyrie really want to play together again? That's the second thing. I wouldn't put much stock in that type of speculation.

Is Christian Wood the most under-hyped 19 pts a game or more player in the NBA? And if so, is that warranted? Kevin O’Connor says he thinks the Mavs are intentionally bringing him off the bench to test his attitude, that they are playing a mind game with him. Do you agree?
Dana Gauruder
11:52
I don't think they want to play "mind games" with Wood, considering he's the top offseason acquisition. There was a reason why Wood kind of bounced around the league in his first few seasons, despite having some obvious skills. There were always some character and commitment questions about him. He seems to have matured in recent years but I still think there are questions about his defensive intensity. He hasn't had the pressure of being on a good team with his expectations lately (Detroit, Houston). He's got to show he can be a two-way player on a contender.

Which 2nd/3rd year stars do you see having breakout years? I like the odds of Cade and Green but also interested to see how Wiseman and Kumminga turn out.
Dana Gauruder
11:56
There are no questions regarding Cade -- he's their franchise guy. Green came on in the second half of last season as well and the Rockets are heavily invested in him becoming a star. In terms of Golden State, Wiseman has to show he can stay on the court. I don't think there's any question that he and Kuminga are supremely talented guys in a great situation where they can play roles rather than having the pressure of being "the guy" on a rebuilding team. Wiseman and Kuminga should be able to flourish and they'll be given every opportunity to do so.
Kevin Porter Jr
11:59
Am I underrated? I posted 16-3-4 in my first year as a PG and should only get better. Seems like players like Brunson etc are hyped up much more. Should I be getting this level of hype when I enter FA?
Dana Gauruder
12:00
I don't Kevin Porter Jr. has been underrated as a player. It's always been the off-court stuff that has given teams pause about him. As long as he matures and is a good teammate, he and Green can form a very solid backcourt.
