Luke Adams
12:00
Hey guys, thanks for the early questions. Our start will be slightly delayed here in the wake of the Steve Nash news. We'll get going in about 10 minutes.

Who could possibly want to coach that disaster in Brooklyn? I'm all for player empowerment and guys speaking their minds but that team seems incredibly dysfunctional
Luke Adams
12:11
This seems like as good a place as any to start. Yeah, I doubt any veteran coach (Quin Snyder, etc.) is going to want to step into that situation right away, with the season already underway. I'll be curious to see whether the Nets stick with Jacque Vaughn as an interim coach for the rest of the season or try to bring in someone permanent sooner than that. It could be an easier job to sell to top candidates next spring, with Kyrie potentially on the way out (and, ideally, Simmons looking more comfortable -- but who knows how that will go).

Which team has been the bigger disappointment so far, Lakers or Clippers. We expected the Lakers to struggle and the Clips to dominate, so I’d say Clippers.
Luke Adams
12:13
Based purely on results relative to expectations, I guess the Clippers have underperformed more (the Lakers have a worse record, but have faced a much more challenging schedule). Still, there's a path to improvement for the Clippers if everyone is healthy (Kawhi has only played 42 total minutes so far), whereas even at full health, this Lakers team seemingly has limited upside.
12:14
Short answer, in other words: The Clippers may have been more disappointing so far, but there's more reason for optimism there.

wouldnt Jae Crowder help the dubs,?  but its in the division.     Warriors have gotten off to slow starts before.
Luke Adams
12:16
Crowder would be a useful addition to just about any team, but the Warriors can't really offer a great package for him unless they're willing to give up at least one of their top young prospects (Wiseman, Kuminga, or Moody). Considering they hung onto those guys last year while competing for a title, I don't see why we shouldn't expect them to do the same this season.

Surprised steve Nash was let go?!
Luke Adams
12:17
The timing was a little odd (the Nets snapped their losing streak last night and are in the middle of a back-to-back set), but Nash would've been my pick for first head coach to be fired this season. It's certainly not entirely his fault, but it feels like things have gone steadily downhill in Brooklyn over the last couple years. Something had to give.

Hey, I have looked pretty good so far this year, how about them apples??!!!!??
Luke Adams
12:19
Your defense has come a long ways from where it was when you entered the NBA. Keep playing like this and it might be a while before you enter the season on a non-guaranteed contract again.

What coaches seats are or could be hit after Nash being fired?
Luke Adams
12:21
There was some Doc Rivers chatter starting up before the Sixers' recent three-game winning streak. I have a hard time envisioning him being fired, but if Philadelphia keeps struggling and he wants out, a mutual "parting of ways" is conceivable.
12:23
I'm not convinced Stephen Silas is still coaching the Rockets at this time next year. I know they expect to be pretty bad, but there haven't been many signs of life with that Rockets roster so far this season.

Is Lauri Markkanen an All-Star caliber player? Right now, he does look the part.
Luke Adams
12:26
I think it could come down to whether the Jazz can keep playing at anything close to their current pace. If they're still in a playoff position after 20-25 games, they've got a pretty good chance at sending someone to the All-Star Game (especially since it's in Salt Lake City). If they fall off soon and are 5-10 games under .500 by the new year, Markkanen's case will be harder to sell.

Could Detroit fire Casey after this season
Luke Adams
12:27
Casey was the third name I was going to mention after Rivers and Silas. Like Houston, Detroit's not expecting contention this season, but they want to be more competitive than they have been the last year or two. If they're not seeing real progress from the young guys, Casey's seat could get hot.

Do you think the wizards 1st round picks are all bust? From hachimura, kispert, davis, avdija, also todd?
Luke Adams
12:29
Busts? No. But I recognize that expectations are high for top-15 picks and that simply becoming solid rotation players (which I think most of them will) could be viewed as a minor disappointment.

I am sure this has been asked often, but with the roster chicago has, do you think their record of 3-4 is a let down? I know zack has health issues which makes me a little nervous by sitting out so many games already.
Luke Adams
12:32
I had Chicago as a .500ish team this season, so 3-4 seems about right, especially with LaVine missing some time. They have a talented roster when everyone's healthy, but it's just hard to envision a really high ceiling when you don't know what you can count on from Ball or LaVine.

What are key issues in a new Collective Bargaining Agreement?
Luke Adams
12:34
The issues from the players' side are usually pretty consistent -- they want greater earning potential, more security, more freedom not to get locked into team-friendly contracts, etc. We discussed a few of the key issues for the NBA/teams side in this story: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2022/10/nba-pushing-for-league-wide-hard-c...

12:34
Crowder an option for the Cavs? Dean Wade seems useful, but seems like they need a more versatile 3 to raise their ceiling.
Luke Adams
12:36
The Cavs make more sense to me as a suitor for Crowder than some of the teams that have been mentioned. They'd probably have to build a package around either Osman or Okoro, which could appeal to the Suns, since neither player is just salary ballast.

Last year Memphis was deep enough that some people were asking if the Grizzlies were better without Ja. This year is seems like other than a few good outings from Bane, no one other than Ja is scoring as much and defense has been a lot worse. Do you think they get that depth back once a few people come back from injuries or does losing Anderson and Melton and adding some rookies change the team too much?
Luke Adams
12:39
It's a little odd that the Grizzlies, as they get closer to contention, seem no more interested in adding/retaining veterans than they were at the start of their rebuild. If they believe that guys like Roddy and LaRavia are ultimately better long-term investments than Anderson/Melton types, that's fine, but there will probably be some growing pains while those rookies get used to the NBA, so some patience will be necessary. This year's team may never have the level of reliable depth that last year's did, but once they get healthier and the rookies start getting more comfortable, there should be enough to get by.
Free Agents
12:40
Any teams linked to the following: Josh Jackson, Marquese Chriss, Willie Cauley-Dunkenstein, Dwight Howard, Boogie Cousins, Hassan Whiteside ?
Luke Adams
12:41
There have been virtually no free agent rumors since the regular season began. It doesn't seem like any teams are really in the market for additions at this point -- that could change if and when the injuries start piling up a bit more, but I suspect some of those vets will have to wait for the 10-day contract period to start in January to get an opportunity.

If spurs won the 2022 draft lottery, do you think they trade DeJounte?
Luke Adams
12:43
Interesting hypothetical. I think they'd probably still do it. Banchero has been great, but the Spurs with Banchero still probably aren't a real contender within the next two seasons, and it didn't seem like they wanted to pay Murray a big raise on his next contract in 2024.

Nets fired coach steve nash, Should wizards fire coach wes unseld too? He played anthony gill over deni avdija which is questionable. Who's fault is this? If this is players fault, Is it time to trade kuzma rather than pay him 20+ million, Kings might be interested on kuzma. Or make a trade for myles turner? I don't think beal goes anywhere and tanking is not on ted and tommy plan so what should wizards do? Add mike conley? harrison barnes? myles turner? Or just make a minor trade and replaced gafford who can't rebound and play defense before that 13million salary kicks in? Barton is also expiring and a sure trade candidate but where?
Luke Adams
12:45
I doubt Unseld gets let go anytime soon, but this is a big year for him. A first-time coach generally survives one disappointing year (especially one so impacted by injuries, like the Wizards' 2021/22 season was), but they're in real danger after a second disappointing year.
12:49
I personally don't think the Wizards have enough talent on their roster to consider them a legitimate playoff team in the East, and I'm not sure giving up more future assets for one or two more pieces is the right play (even if it gets them into the postseason, they're still not a real title threat). They're sort of stuck in no-man's land right now, a little too good to tank and not good enough to seriously contend. I advocated in these chats last year for them to blow things up, but now that they've re-signed Beal to that huge contract... it's a tricky path forward.

Can i get invovled for Crowder? Maybe Korkmaz/MIlton for him?
Luke Adams
12:51
Hard to see a match, given what the Suns want (starting with a solid rotation player). Korkmaz and Milton have had their moments in the past, but they're currently benchwarmers in Philly. I wonder if Thybulle would hold any appeal for Phoenix.

Other first or second Year players are allowed to play through their Errors but Wiseman and Kuminga are pulled after one mistake and not put back into the game.  Is the Head Coach playing fair?  If they are going to Lose games early in the season, why not Lose while developing the young players and getting them ready for the Playoffs?  Kerr is turning into Don Nelson with his mistrust of young Big Men.
Luke Adams
12:54
Kerr has talked about his belief that player development can happen in practices and doesn't necessarily have to happen in games. Given where the Warriors are in the NBA's pecking order, I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt and shouldn't just throw those young guys out there just for the sake of it if he's not seeing what he wants to from them.
