Luke Adams
12:00
Hey guys, today's chat will only be about 40-45 minutes, but we'll have a super-sized one for you on Thursday evening during the draft with Alex Kirschenbaum.
12:01
Let's get to today's questions!
Looney Payton
12:01
What kind of salary bump do you think we’ll receive?
Luke Adams
12:02
It's a great question. I think you're both more valuable specifically to the Warriors than you would be to another team, given the roles you play. But I could see a team like the Hornets getting aggressive on Looney and going up to $10MM or so. I'm less convinced that Payton will get an offer in that range. Maybe more like $6-8MM. I could also see both guys taking less to stay with the Warriors.

12:02
After opting out, what do you expect for Batum and Tucker? Who else do you expect to opt out?
Luke Adams
12:03
My best guess is that both Batum and Tucker will re-sign with their current teams and get raises (to $8MM+ for Tucker and $10MM+ for Batum). But I also thought Tucker would re-sign with the Bucks last year, so you never know. They'll both draw serious mid-level interest and will have other options (maybe more lucrative ones) if they're open to leaving.
12:04
As for other players who will opt out, Beal and a couple Bucks (Portis, Connaughton) look to me like the best bets. Maybe Harden and Kyrie if they know a long-term FA deal is waiting for them (they could also opt in and extend). Patty Mills is one I'm not 100% sure about. I think he could probably match his $6.2MM option salary on the open market if he's not sold on sticking with the Nets.
Free Agency question
12:05
Can the Knicks sign Mitchell Robinson or the Warriors sign Kevon Looney before Draft night on Thursday?  How does those Rules work?  Do teams have an exclusive Window to negotiate with their own Unrestriced Free Agents before they hit the open Market on July 1st ?
Luke Adams
12:06
Because Looney and Robinson are extension-eligible, either of them could technically re-sign with his own team before July 1. They'd just be limited to veteran extension rules (and would be capped out at about $56MM over four years, the same deal Dorian Finney-Smith got). Once they officially reach free agency, that limit wouldn't be in place.
12:07
This doesn't apply to every pending free agent. For instance, Bobby Portis isn't extension-eligible and wouldn't be able to re-up with Milwaukee before reaching free agency.
Mike
12:07
What would a deal for Knicks to number 4 look like?
Luke Adams
12:08
To pique the Kings' interest, they'd probably have to include two strong assets in addition to No. 11. Maybe two future first-round picks, with light/no protections on one of them. Maybe a future first-rounder and Quickley. Something like that. Even then, the Kings are in win-now mode and might get an offer that includes a veteran that they like better.

Do you think the Jazz make a trade this summer?
Luke Adams
12:09
Absolutely. I'm unconvinced they'll move Mitchell or Gobert though.
Tyler
12:09
Do you think the Mavs could get Myles Turner or make another move in the trade market?
Luke Adams
12:10
They certainly have some trade chips left, but I'd be surprised if they traded for another impact frontcourt guy after acquiring Wood. A wing feels more likely.
OG Anunoby
12:10
Do you think I get traded, I wasn't expecting this much chatter about my availabilit.
Luke Adams
12:11
I'm skeptical. It would have to be in a package for a player who's better than you. Gobert is the most logical target but I have a hard time seeing the Raptors doing that, due to the spacing issues it would create and the price it would require.
Steve
12:11
Do you think KYRIE & Nets find some middle ground? Or will he opt in and then traded?
Luke Adams
12:13
The Shams report yesterday on Kyrie felt a lot like the ones we got on LaVine a little earlier in the offseason, in that it seemed designed to put pressure on the player's incumbent team. I think both guys will ultimately stay put, though Kyrie is more of a wild card. If he does go anywhere, the Clippers are easily the most intriguing trade partner for the Nets.

If the Cavs hang onto the 14th pick, do they draft for need or go the best available player route? Of the players projected to be available to them at 14, if you were theirG.M., who would you take?
Luke Adams
12:15
I think fit will be a consideration -- it wouldn't make much sense for them to add a guy like Mark Williams to an already-crowded frontcourt, even if he's the top prospect on their board. There are a lot of promising wings projected to be available in that range, so they'll probably take whoever is at the top of their board for that position.

12:15
How many trades on draft night?
Luke Adams
12:16
I think we get to double digits, though of course not all of them will be blockbusters -- a few will be "second-rounder for cash"-type deals. With that in mind, I'll say...12.

I have read some rumors of the Pacers' interest in Miles Bridges.  I also read that the Pacers are exploring trades involving Myles Turner.  As one of the only teams with major cap space, do you see the Pacers orchestrating a sign-and-trade involving Bridges and Turner, a player that would greatly improve the Hornets' defense?
Luke Adams
12:18
I kinda like that idea. The salary-matching rules would work despite the base year compensation complications because the Pacers should have some cap room to work with. I mean, I feel like the Hornets should just keep Bridges and try to get a center without using him, but if they're really wavering about whether or not to sign him long-term, that'd be a good alternative.

What is the best the sixers can do with Danny green + 23rd pick via trade?
Luke Adams
12:22
I published this question before I had a good answer. Off the top of my head, if they were to add a little more salary, maybe they could go after someone like Eric Gordon or Bojan Bogdanovic. The Magic would do that deal in a heartbeat for Terrence Ross. Kenrich Williams might be an interesting target, since OKC would need a lot more for Dort.

Biggest name that you think is a lock to be on a new team next season?
Luke Adams
12:23
A lot of reporters seem to agree John Collins is on track to end up elsewhere. There may be a couple bigger-name players that change teams, but I wouldn't consider any of them a "lock" to be on the move at this point.

Think Denver can get a starting level SG with some combination of Barton, Morris, and their first rounders?
Luke Adams
12:24
That's a stronger package than the one the Sixers are dangling (Green/No. 23), and I suggested that should be enough for Eric Gordon. So I'll say yes.

With a cap strapped Lakers team that will probably lose Monk and Mello to free agency, there seems to be almost no chance of a title run this year…what’re the odd’s LeBron engineer’s his own exit from LA this summer?
Luke Adams
12:25
I think it's a long shot this summer. If the Lakers struggle again in 2022/23, things could get pretty interesting on that front next year...

Off the top of my head, the Magic and Pistons have a decent amount of cap space, and one or two other noncontenders. Then everybody is down to using their exception or using Bird rights to re-sign their own guys. So ... sure seems like most of the premium players are staying put and it will be a pretty blah offseason aside from the draft and perhaps some trades like Brogdon, Turner, etc. Thoughts?
Luke Adams
12:28
It looks that way on the surface, but there are always surprises, and the revitalization of the sign-and-trade over the last few years has made free agency a little more interesting even when teams don't have cap room. Even if the very best FAs stay put, I bet some in the second or third tier will move via sign-and-trade. Last year, for instance, Lowry, DeRozan, Ball, Markkanen, Dinwiddie, and Graham were among the FAs that went to over-the-cap teams via S&T.

If Beal were to opt in to his final year to facilitate a trade to BOS (who will most likely be over the apron this year), when is the earliest BOS could offer him a max extension?
Luke Adams
12:29
Extend-and-trade restrictions lift after six months, so he'd be eligible for a long-term max extension by late Dec. or early Jan. in that scenario.
Draft question
12:29
Are teams allowed to Sell their 1st Round draft picks or only their 2nd Round draft picks ??
