What so you think will happen with harden? Delt before camp? If so where? Reports as normal ? Holds out?
Dana Gauruder
1:04
I doubt Harden will be dealt before camp. Seemingly the only team interested (even mildly) is the Clippers. At this point, any deal involving Harden will be more of a salary dump that anything else. And the acquiring team will be cognizant that Harden will probably expect some sort of extension or promise to re-sign. Morey doesn't want to acquire salaries beyond this season because they could have major cap room next season. I think Harden reports to camp, if only to preserve his free agency for next summer. But it will be a very uneasy situation.

If dame is delt to the raptors do you think he will report? Will they be able to retain enough to make some noise?
Dana Gauruder
1:08
If Toronto truly wants him, one of the things it has to show him is that he could be the final piece to a championship run. That's why I can't see Barnes being part of the deal. Not sure about Siakam but the Blazers have no real use for him (they've got Grant), so a third team would have to be involved. I think Lillard would report and play -- the Raptors will hope he'll like the culture and the remaining players on the roster. As for the package, probably Anunoby, Gradey Dick, some salaries tossed in and several firsters. They'd also have to drop protections on their 2024 pick, which was traded to the Spurs.

If Portland makes the trade for OG/Gradey/Draft assets for Lillard, who do they ship OG to, and how much do they get back?
Because there is zero chance OG signs with Portland if he was already annoyed with Toronto.
Dana Gauruder
1:10
Well, the Raptors would have to give up enough salary to match. Anunoby would have to be included in all likelihood. He has a player option for next summer, so there's incentive for him to have a solid season if he wants to hit free agency.

How does Jerami Grant fit in with Portland's rebuild? He's good, too good to be rotting on a husk of a team that won't be seriously contending for a few years, minimum. Unless they manage a record turnaround, it's kind of a waste of his talent and their money imo.
Dana Gauruder
1:12
He's got nice long-term security now and he is a solid all-around player. I think that would be on Portland's to-do list at some point after a potential Lillard trade. They could probably move him at the trade deadline or next summer.

Of the Rockets, Pistons and Magic, which team has the best chance of making the play-in tournament?
Dana Gauruder
1:15
I'd like to say the Pistons, since I live in the Detroit and I'm tired of seeing them losing/tanking. They'll be better but I don't think they'll have enough to make the play-in. Love the Magic's forward combo, not sure how their backcourt shakes out. The Rockets will be better with a floor leader in FVV. I'd give lukewarm nod to the Magic -- they won 34 games last season and should be even better this season.

What's a realistic package from Dallas for a Clint Capela-level Center? Green and seconds? Hardaway and a first (unprotected?)? Hardy and filler?
Dana Gauruder
1:19
I think it's complicated because is Okongwu is a starting center on a playoff team? Atlanta traded away its starting power forward so I'd think they'd have to get back a starting-level center or PF. In a straight swap, I think the Mavs would have to give up a draft asset and Green. But more likely, it would be a three-team swap where the Hawks get a replacement for Capela or Collins.
Pacers

we end u moving buddy as part of the same deal, right?
Dana Gauruder
1:24
Not sure which deal you're referring to but I was a little bit surprised Hield is pushing for a trade at this stage. He could test the market next summer and choose his next destination -- I don't he'll lose that 3-point stroke overnight.  The Pacers are probably looking to get a first-rounder as part of a package for Hield, not sure if they'll get it.
Magic
1:25
The Magic/Lillard rumor was pretty random but let’s say they make an offer. Fultz, Isaac, Black, Howard and an unprotected first for Dame. Then Portland flips either Fultz or Isaac with Nurkic for Ayton. Who says no?
Dana Gauruder
1:28
With these young, up-and-coming teams, there's always talk about a timeline. The Magic would be doing something awfully unorthodox to drop in a 33-year-old point guard into the lineup with all that money owed to him and expect they'll be better than Miami, Milwaukee, Boston, etc. They have no playoff history and usually, you need to go through the process of playoff disappointments before you reach the Finals.

1:30
Have there been any actual reports on AD’s regimen to stay healthy this season, or has it just been all talk from him?
Dana Gauruder
1:32
I haven't seen anything regarding whether he's made any changes to his usual offseason preparations. He signed a max extension and the Lakers have every incentive to make sure they keep him healthy for a playoff run.
Diallo
1:32
Will Hami Diallo find a team before the season starts? Hard to believe he hasn’t at least gotten the minimum but training camp is next week. I liked his energy, athleticism and defense with Detroit, even if he has some obvious flaws.
Dana Gauruder
1:34
Same here. A lot of it is driven by the analytics. It's hard for a wing to get a long-term deal if he's got holes in his offensive game. Diallo does have breathtaking athleticism and can contribute in multiple ways. It could be that he overestimate his market and now is looking at nothing more than vet minimum deals. But he's good enough to be a quality second unit player and I have to believe someone will snap him up soon.

Even with Gordon Hayward's expiring $31.5 million contract coming off the books, the Hornets currently have over $100 million guaranteed to 7 players for the 2024/2025 season, in addition Miles Bridges will be an UFA.  The deadline for team options for James Bouknight and Kai Jones for the 2024/2025 season is on 10/31/2023.  If you were in the Hornets' front office, would you recommend that the Hornets decline both options and utilize the $10 million elsewhere next offseason?
Dana Gauruder
1:39
You've really got your capologist hat on! I absolutely would decline those options. You only pick them up if you're convinced they're part of your future, or if you think you could easily move them in a trade. It'll be interesting to see if they can move Rozier's salary at some point during the season, if they so choose. That would give them more flexibility.

Who do you belive will be the next player signed to a rookie scale extension?
Dana Gauruder
1:42
Would it be cheating if I said Quickley? There are reports out of NY that there's progress in those talks. I think the Spurs will lock up Vassell before camp and I believe the Hawks would be willing to extend Bey if the numbers are reasonable.

Do you believe Cameron Payne is just waiting for injuries to occur to others?  Or is the interest level in him two weeks after he was waived very low?
Dana Gauruder
1:45
It was interesting that Woj reported when he was waived that there was a significant market of contenders interested in Payne once he cleared waivers. I think he's waiting to see what would be the best situation for him -- he's collecting that guaranteed money, so no rush for him. He could even wait for the regular season and take advantage of an injury to a point guard -- jump right into the rotation.
Jeremy
1:46
Do you think Obi gets starters minutes?
Dana Gauruder
1:48
I've stated before, the Pacers didn't acquire him to let him languish on the bench. That being said, they invested a lottery pick on a power forward, so Toppin won't have minutes handed to him. I think Toppin will be highly motivated to make his stay in Indiana as beneficial as possible.

1:48
will TJ Warren make it on a roster this season?
Dana Gauruder
1:51
Hasn't been much buzz around Warren this offseason, other than a workout with the Celtics. He could surface on someone's roster this season but he may have to wait as long as the 10-days come along in January to get another shot. Injuries really sidetracked his career.

1:51
If you're the Warriors GM what extension deal are you giving clay I mean he's getting older his athleticism is not there and in my opinion he's no longer worth Max dollars
Dana Gauruder
1:55
If they didn't re-sign him, it would probably the end of an era. Latest buzz is that they are in no rush to extend him but that it will probably happen at some point. If I were the GM and/or owner, I'd be reluctant to take that road. One writer pointed out yesterday that FVV got a boatload of money elsewhere and Thompson would probably find some big offers in free agency.
KJ
1:55
In your opinion why didn't the Warriors sign Dwight Howard
Dana Gauruder
1:58
Because he's going to be 38 in December and he's an old-school traditional center. He doesn't fit the current mold of big men, where there's so much switching on defense. I miss the post play, when players like Dwight were dominant. But it's not the way the game's played anymore.

What coach is in the hot seat?
Dana Gauruder

My gut tells me that Kidd won't last the season in Dallas, especially if they go through a rough patch.

Why haven't The Nets traded any of their 30 year old players?
Dana Gauruder
2:00
They seem content to go into the season with an overload of wings and forwards. They can always clear the logjam if the right deal comes along.
That's all the time we have for today. Luke Adams will take your questions on Thursday. Maybe we'll have a Lillard deal to talk about.
