What were your thoughts of Bonino when the Penguins acquired him a few years ago? Higher than McKegg?
Jason Mackey
5:53
Oh, yeah. Much higher. Bonino came here with a much better pedigree and larger body of work. I don't think the two are comparable, honestly.
Ctrl+F McKegg

I haven't heard anything about goalie equipment. Did the NHL enforce the new size mandate?
Jason Mackey
5:54
No, they're kicking the can on that to next year, I believe.

Is sam going to have a chat
Jason Mackey
5:54
Believe so. He's going to go on Mondays. I'm hopeful they'll start this upcoming week. Sick of me already?

you think GMJR pulls off a deal. And who do you think he gets to fill a third line center spot
Jason Mackey
5:55
I think within the first month of the season. And I still think they wind up getting Sheahan, honestly. I think it makes the most sense given where we're at with this thing.

Is it 8 yet???
Jason Mackey
5:55
It is not, HB. Sadly.

What's Maata's trade value, in your opinion? Would they consider moving him? Looking at their cap situation, he makes the most sense to move.
Jason Mackey
5:57
Curious why you think it makes the most sense to move a top-four defensemen, someone under club control for a number of years at a reasonable rate, who has looked better than he has in a while, the first day of the season. He would net a decent amount, but I don't they're looking to move him. I really don't.

Do you think the Pens will/should claim Colborne? He had one down season but has shown what he can do in the past. Only a year left on his deal.. What do you think?
Jason Mackey
5:57
I think there's probably a reason Colorado did what it did. If he wanted traded, fine. But you don't help a guy's stock by sending him down. It has to be performance-related, and I don't think that's a problem the Penguins should take on.

I see articles about the pens chances this year on 3peating and they say key departures and have names like Mark streit and Ron hainsey and that makes be laugh
Jason Mackey
5:58
Maybe the writer is just covering all of his/her bases.

Hi Jason. This is more general than Pens-related, but I was wondering if you could explain what it actually means when a team trades for "future considerations"? Like how Vegas got the Pens 2020 second round pick for future considerations.
Jason Mackey
5:58
Sarah, you've stumped me. Ha. I honestly don't know. I'll have to ask Rutherford and report back to you. What I do know is often there are deals contingent on certain things. That could be it.

In ur opinion who is the D-man in top 6 that gets traded and who is the  Forward of the 12 that gets traded for a big time 3rd line C?
Jason Mackey
5:59
I'm not convinced they're going to trade a forward and defenseman off their active roster for a "big time 3rd line C" honestly.

How do you evaluate the chances for Sprong to come back as a regular this year?
Jason Mackey
6:00
I would say pretty darned good. He's close. There will be injuries. I think he will tear up the AHL. I see him as a definite possibility in December or January, the way it was with Guentzel.

Who would you love to see in the Stanley cup final? Not who you think will get there, but which teams would you love to see in there?
Jason Mackey
6:00
I think it would be terrific for the league if we saw Pittsburgh vs. Edmonton and Crosby vs. McDavid. The Oilers -- and any Canadian team, really -- making it that far is good for anyone who cares about the health of the league and game.

Staal, duchene, bozak, sheahan, spooner, all rumored to the pens but who are the most realistic 3rd line center options who would you go after?
Jason Mackey
6:01
It depends on who goes out, what money gets taken back, etc. I love Duchene if you give up a seventh-rounder for him. Get what I'm saying? Staal isn't available. Cross him off. Tough to answer hypothetically without knowing asks.

What about Bjugstad from florida?
Jason Mackey
6:01
Are they trading him? Absolutely. Make that call right away.

Do you think the penguins will look a little different on the ice with Letang back than we saw most of last year without him? Will they control the play more?
Jason Mackey
6:02
I really do. The Penguins played a really solid puck-possession game under Sullivan during the latter portion of 2015-16. That went away a little bit at times. Letang is a huge part of that. Having him back should help them control play quite a bit.

How tired are you of the words "third line center"?
Jason Mackey
6:02
Very.

Other than the 3C, are there any other areas that think Rutherford might be looking to improve via trade?
Jason Mackey
6:03
Not at this point. I think he's going to look at both bottom-six center spots. If he's not getting what he wants there, it's the only weakness I can see, honestly.
Bob

Do you sense a trade is closer then before?
Jason Mackey
6:03
No, I don't.
Lukas
6:03
Who do you think the rest of the NHL sees as valuable trade chips from the Penguins?
Jason Mackey
6:03
I could see teams calling on Maatta. Sprong. Aston-Reese. Rust. Guentzel. Jarry. Only some of those guys are available, of course, but they do have some quality pieces.
Lauren
6:03
How do you think Andrey Pedan figures into the Penguins' future plans?
Jason Mackey
6:04
He's tough as all get-out. Great fighter. A couple years, he could be a 5-6 guy if he develops a little bit more. Nothing more than that, though, but they could use a physical guy; Ian Cole will be gone, in my opinion, after this season, and they'll need someone who fits that profile.
