Hi everyone!  Nick is just getting his laptop fired up, he'll be here in about five minutes.

Hey everyone, this is Nick Ahmed. Excited to answer some of your questions!
Jon

How's the shoulder feeling?
Nick Ahmed
1:14
Shoulder is feeling very good thanks. Been hitting and throwing without pain for a while now and pumped to get back out on the field this year.

How do you deal with being on the IL? Do you feel like you let your team down? I’ve always found it tough when I can’t help my team contribute
Nick Ahmed
1:16
Yea, injuries can be very tough mentally. I want to be out there everyday to help my team but sometimes injuries prevent that. I just put all of my energy into the rehab process and try to come back stronger than ever. And also make sure to rely on my faith in God and my incredible family during the difficult times.

Hi Nick, thanks so much for doing this, cool to have an active player. You gotta be feeling pretty good about the direction of the team, seems pretty improved. I was rooting for the Braves to bring you home this season, but looks like they are trying Grissom. In your opinion, what is the toughest infield position to play?
Nick Ahmed
1:17
Thanks for the support! I think shortstop is the most demanding but Ive never played any of the other positions so I can't speak too much to them.

Nick! Thanks for doing this, and thanks for representing the 413! I had some friends play against you in high school! Any favorite memories of high school baseball in western MA?!
Nick Ahmed
1:18
413 Lets gooo! We won a legion state championship, that memory stands out!

What is it like as a player when your name is on the trade block? How do you deal with it?
Nick Ahmed
1:19
Can only give energy and focus to what you can control and the trade rumor stuff is outside my control. I leave that to the front office people to decide.

Who have been your favorite all time teammates?
Nick Ahmed
1:20
Martin Prado. Took me under his wing as a young minor league player and taught me so much. Always treated everyone with the utmost respect and played his heart out every night.

Hi Nick thanks for chatting!  There's a staff member at MLBTR that's been saying Arizona will do well this year (actually he's been saying it for a couple years).  How about you?  Do you feel good about the Diamondbacks this year?  Also, do you or your teammates read MLBTR?  How about the comments?  Thank you!
Nick Ahmed
1:21
We feel good about our team. We have a lot of young talent and guys who are hungry to compete and get better! I check the site in the off-season to see where guys end up signing but don't read the comments often.

Have you ever swam in the pool in the outfield at Chase Field?
Nick Ahmed
1:22
Yes! We will get in the pool for pool workouts occasionally and we celebrated clinching the playoffs in 2017 by all jumping in there!

1:23
how do you maintain such a high level of defence even as you get further into your career?
Nick Ahmed
1:23
Always train my agility, quickness and defensive skills. Training at high speeds and intensities is key. I love doing "flip fungos" where our infield coach hits the ball as hard as he can at us with top spin.

Were there ever times you doubted if you would make it when you were in the minors?  How did you push through that?
Nick Ahmed
1:25
Yea for sure when I was in AA in 2013. I was playing so terribly at the plate and thought I was going to get released everyday. I put my faith in God and He relieved my anxiety and allowed me to create an identity outside of the game which then helped me to perform way better during the games.

As a shortstop, who would be your all-time double play partner you’d love to share the middle infield with?
Nick Ahmed
1:26
Roberto Alomar

How often do you take into consideration advanced analytics while you're working on your swing, fielding, etc.?
Nick Ahmed
1:27
Almost everyday to help create an approach vs a certain pitcher. In the offseason quite a bit with my swing mechanics and defensively it helps a ton with positioning.
Connor
1:28
What are some of the biggest changes you have implement this offseason compared to other years?
Nick Ahmed
1:29
Always making tweaks to my training regimen to try to stay strong and healthy. At the plate, working to improve my swing by having a calmer/quieter body and head to create better recognition.

1:29
Hi Nick, why do you think you have been more successful vs left handed pitching, in your career?
Nick Ahmed
1:30
Balls breaking in to me from a lefty are usually easier to handle than balls breaking from a righty

I was hoping Nick could speak to what he credits his perseverance and drive to…as well as any insight he has on creating a more disciplined approach to getting the work done to be successful.
Nick Ahmed
1:31
My discipline and drive from my faith and God and having a bigger purposed to play for than just for myself. The best skill I have is being great at honest self reflection and then coming up with a plan to get better.

Hey Nick! Wanted to start off by saying that I'm glad that you're back on the field (although Perdomo was looking a little more comfortable at SS later in the season, you were missed greatly); how are you feeling? Also, I know y'all are a tight-knit organization, so is there any particular wisdom that you're sharing with the younger guys?
Nick Ahmed
1:32
Thanks! Excited to get back on the field. I try to help the younger guys understand that doing the little things right is so important and adds up over time.

The time you have laughed the hardest in a dugout?
Nick Ahmed
1:33
Probably when our 3rd base coach Tony Perezchica fell down when trying to send a baserunner home lol

Lots of other quality middle infielders have come and gone during your time as a D-Back. How does it feel that the organization continues to trust you above other options year after year?
Nick Ahmed
1:34
Feels good. Want to make sure I continue to prepare and perform at a high level every single year and get better and better.
