Hey, everyone. How goes it? Door is unlocked and you can now get in the store. Last week of regular season in WPIAL. My head hurts from trying to figure out playoff clinchings. But let's get started.
AA Wonderer
11:01
What do you think about the AA century conference heading into the playoffs?  How much respect with the conference get compared to the other conferences? Charleroi looks legit and Beth center couldn be a tough out for someone in the first round.
Mike White
11:03
Washington will get No. 2 seed. Is Chaleroi for real? Well, offensively they seem to be. But defense is another matter. I don't know if I'd expect a long playoff run from any other teams. Washington can get to final though.
Xander
11:03
Who is the most complete team in class 3A
Mike White
11:03
Ahhhh, just a hunch. Maybe Aliquippa???
11:04
Xander. You did say complete. Well Aliquippa doesn't have much of a passing game, but so what. They are still the best team. Although I still say they will need to pass the ball a little at some point in the postseason. Maybe it's a case of they can when they need to.
Ghost of Hanratty

With the latest coaching mess at Butler, is there any hope to salvage that program? They’ve been a doormat in the Quad North for as long as I can remember, which is odd given the district’s size
Mike White
11:05
Well Ghost of Hanratty, maybe they ought to try getting Terry Hanratty to coach. It really is a mystery why that team can't be more competitive. I certainly don't have the answer.

With basketball season right around the corner any thoughts on the girls 5A and 6A teams?
Mike White
11:06
About all I know is North Allegheny will be good again.
WPIAL lifer

Take this for what it's worth: The top 4 teams from Class A Tri-County South are 6-1 in non-conference (cross over) games heading into the final week of regular season, including wins over playoff teams Imani, Rochester, Western Bvr, and possible playoff team Shenango. Proof is always in the playoff pudding, so who do you think stands a chance to advance beyond first round from the TSC besides Cal?
Mike White
11:09
Yeah but it's California that beat Rochester and Imani. Beating Western Beaver and Shenango is supposed to be impressive?? Sorry. California I think is for real. Can play with anyone in Class A. But not sold on anyone else from that conference.

Do you think NA has a chance to challenge Pine Richland this week?
Mike White
11:10
Of course they have chance. Everyone always has a chance. It's at NA. That is good for NA. But I'd be shocked if they keep within three touchdowns.

Who do u think will win the game between Jeannette and Clairton. And if Cliarton wins by more the 9 do u think will will seed them imani clairton and Jeannette 2,3,4,
Mike White
11:12
I think Jeannette will win. It's funny. If Clairton would win by 10 or more and Imani would win by 10 or more over Leechburg, there will be a three-way tie with Jeannette. They would tie in head to head, in Gardner Points and also tiebreaker points. A coin flip would then decide first place. How about that? Won't happen, though.

This is the game I've waiting to see Montour will get shut out by the Lions 10-0 we will win 38-0
Mike White
11:12
OK Mr. Confident.

PR vs NA your take
Mike White
11:13
Already said it above. Will be surprised if NA stays within three TDs. Pine is just too good. NA will need mistakes by Pine to even have a chance. Pine defense is really good also.

Assuming Belle Vernon and South Fayette win this week who do you see taking the top seed in 4A?  Obviously it seems that TJ will finish 3rd at this point  (if SF/BV win) so the 2 seed will have to deal with them in the semis.
Mike White
11:14
It's a good question. We discussed this before. Maybe it depends on how South Fayette wins. If they win impressively, I think South Fayette gets it. You can make a point for either team getting the top seed. If I had to pick now, though, I'd go with South Fayette.

Hello Mike, How are you doing this morning? Gotta luv this time of year and it's looking like the year of the Cougar 🐾🐾 Just like you said. Mike what do you think about the young Charleroi Cougars on the rise?  Did you watch any highlights from the Cougars game on Friday against Beth Center? We might be looked at as the small piece of the map but It was one for the books I'm telling you. I'm putting it out there Mike, It should've been your Steelers High School Football Showcase of the week, although we can't ever seem to even get into the vote lol. I'm voting it game of the century, it was a great one. With California and Charleroi's program on the rise and BV on the grind cleaning up over there at "The Beach" lol. I'm proud of our small-town Valley boys that are putting in work. What are some of your thoughts? Thanks again for your time Mike and have a blessed day. Looking forward to hearing you and Sarah's picks for this weeks "Friday Nights Lights!!"
Mike White
11:17
DeLana, as I said before. Charleroi has been impressive on offense. Defense seems to be suspect, though, at times.  Charleroi might be even better next year. Lose only three or four starters. You're right with Cal and Belle Vernon also having excellent years, that area is on the rise. As for Charleroi, they will need to prove themselves in the playoffs.

5A continues to look like an extremely deep playoff field.  Do you remember in recent history a class where this many teams had legitimate hopes at winning WPIAL this late in the season?
Mike White
11:17
Yes, last year in 5A.
Larry Davis
11:17
Who do you see making it to the championship game in 2A?  What are your thoughts about Charleroi as a possible contender?
Mike White
11:18
Just talked about Charleroi. I don't know how you go against Steel Valley and Washington, though. Remember, Washington blew out Charleroi. Enough said.

Which Team is you favorite in 4A?
Mike White
11:19
Gotta wait to see who wins South Fayette and Montour. But honestly, if I had to pick now, I'd pick TJ.

I was in Philly over the weekend and went to the Yale/Penn game.  Zane Dudek was remarkable, definitely should be some bigger schools kicking themselves (but hey he's getting an Ivy League education).  Also - Justin Watson is a man among boys. I definitely see where the NFL hype is coming from - he might stand a chance to be a late round draft pick.
Mike White
11:21
You went to an Ivy League game. Good for you. Zane has been impressive. Great kid. Good to see good things happen to good kid. We will never know why FBS schools didn't recruit him. A few theories. I think he should've gotten a shot. However, I will say this. We don't produce many FBS running backs from around here. I don't think people realize how good you have to be to make it as a running back at an FBS school. That being said, it is remarkable that not even MAC schools came after Zane.

Hi Mike, I noticed that if Clairton beats Jeannette by 10 or more points the conference champion will be decided by a coin flip.  Do you think Clairton's got a shot and isn't there a better way they can determine a champion?
Mike White
11:22
I don't think that will happen, Clairton winning by 10 or more. But if all the tiebreakers are exhausted, what is there to do? Head to head doesn't break it. Gardner points doesn't break it. WPIAL tiebreaker points wouldn't break it. But hold on. If Clairton doesn't win by 10 or more, tiebreaker points will break the tie. It's not like the WPIAL just made this up this year. It's been this way for years.

Haven't heard much of this Ronnie Stevenson from Montour is just hype my Owls need help next year
Mike White
11:23
Just saw his father last week. Ronnie was hurt some early on. He's been back but Montour hasn't thrown much I don't think. But how do you argue? They are winning.

forget the basketball talk for now
Mike White
11:24
No, no. Always willing to talk basketball. Just not a lot of it now.

The Ghost brings up a good point.  How do large schools like Butler, Hempfield, and Shaler struggle constantly in football but small schools like Clairton, Aliquippa, and Jeannette are constantly finding top notch talent?
Mike White
11:25
Kind of helps to have some talented players.
