You can't make pairings until you see all the playoff teams. I'll go out on a limb and say Aliquippa gets the No. 1 seed. And they will play one of the wild card teams.

Just wanted to say how great the south Fayette team is!!!  I know ya already know but damn!!   They also probably have the best sportsmanship fans in the wpial.  I know it’s easy to do on a 55 game win streak but I had to say it

Well New Castle gave South Fayette a game. I think Montour is at least as good as New Castle. Gotta find a way to slow down that offense a little, though, which isn't easy.

Do non-playoff schools still have the opportunity to schedule a week 10 game in this new setup?  That idea seems to be dead in recent years.  It's a shame as it could be a way for struggling schools to get a chance at a win against a similar strength opponent.

I think my NA boys are in trouble with pine this week, but this is a hoops question.  Carmody (Notre Dame)and Laskey (St. Francis) already committed and Washington from QV just got a Drexel offer.  Any word on Aiken Jr?

Big game this week in 6A Northern 7. What are your thoughts the match up between Central and Penn Hills?

Very interesting game. I think Penn Hills has a shot. I think it might be close. If Pine beats NA and Penn Hills wins, playoff spots come down to tiebreaker points. North Allegheny currently has 33, Central Catholic 25 and Penn Hills 10. So, in that scenario, North Allegheny would finish second because Penn Hills can get no more than 20 tiebreaker points and North Allegheny can't get any less than 23 (you can get a maximum of plus 10 or minus 10 for a win or a loss). So NA would get second. The system then reverts back to head to head. Since Penn Hills beat Central, Penn Hills will get third. So in essence, Penn Hills can't finish in second.

Heard Hooker  tore up his knee, tough break for the kid from New Castle.  Saw you had something about WPIAL kids in the NFL, do you know how many there are currently, mabye I'm paying attention a bit more but seems like the number is increasing.

Not seeing any love for the MAC Schools in 2A. If I’m not mistaken they bounced a whole lot of teams out in the first round last year and may be even stronger this year. CWNC and Riverside are no push overs

Never said they were pushovers. Both are good, I believe. They both could go far. But I was asked if North C. could win championship. I said I don't see it.

There was a twitter argument I saw over the weekend where people were mentioning that Seneca Valley would win the state championship in 1A states and that even Shaler would make the playoffs at the 4A level.  I know it's a ridiculous twitter argument, but would an 0-9 Shaler Team really beat teams like Mars & New Castle or West Mifflin & Trinity (the bottom playoff teams in 4A)?

Hard to say if they'd beat them but Shaler certainly would be more competitive in 4A. Probably would win a few games.

Tony, are you asking about individual talent in the WPIAL? It's a very average year. Next year looks to be very down. Not much. Or are you talking teams?

Regarding the 3A seeding - I know until the season over it's too hard to project.  However, I would hope the WPIAL will make Quaker Valley the 2 or 3 seed.  I'd hate to see QV and Aliquippa rematch in a semifinal when that really should be a Heinz Field championship game.  QV has certainly established themselves as the #2 team in my opinion with their huge win over Seton last week.

One second place team in 3A gets a home game in first round of playoffs. RIght now, Quaker Valley is the leader with more Gardner Points. Yes, I believe QV definitely gets the No. 2 seed.

FYI - the aforementioned point guard from NA had a beast of an AAU season. playing at the highest level on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit. turned plenty of heads... FYI only local team to play in the Gold Bracket at the Summer Championships in Vegas (the same tourney that featured Mr Ball's antics & FBI sting operations!)...

I saw that Hempfield QB had a big night throwing against North Allegheny. I look for PR to blow them out.  Also what do you think of the kid from Yough breaking the school record? I mean it was against Southmoreland.

Good for the Yough kid. He did run 43 times, though. Yikes. Yough has had two kids gain 400 yards in a game. The other was 10 years ago. Both came against Southmoreland. Huh.

Unless coaches aren't coaching, I don't see any impact a strike will have. Trinity not guaranteed a spot. But likely they will get in. Too hard to tell yet who Trinity would play.

With the playoff entries being determined on Friday night, is the Monday night pairings meeting the most antiquated event left in the WPIAL? The committee could meet on Saturday and release the info Sat night, or even Sunday morning/afternoon.  No need with all of the online film exchange for teams to wait and find out Monday night
