Good morning, everyone. Lots going on it seems in sports world, and high schools, too. On the field, football season half over. Some things went on this weekend. How 'bout the Brooke W.Va. student section putting up sign "Trump Perry?" Wow. Perry played at Brooke Friday.
11:03
Well here we go. Let's start.

Who is going to Stop PR? They have established a running game to keep the D honest, they have #15 and the air attack. Their corners are locking it down, the D line is dominating, and linebackers are jamming the middle. The big question with PR this year was can the Defense slow anyone down? Coach K answered that 3 of 5 teams scored 7 or less and Bethel really only had 7 against the 1st team.  The 6A rankings should be
#1 Pine-Richland
#2 No-Contest
#3 No-Contest
#4 Central
#5 Bethel Park?

You wouldn't by chance be a Pine parent, would you? You're green and white eyes are very evident. Yes, Pine is good. Really good I still say they will get challenged at some point. When? I don't know. They led Penn Hills by only 1406 in the third quarter. Yes, there is Pine-Richland and then everyone else in 6A. They play No. 2-ranked Central Catholic this week. Central always has a representative defense. But I'd still say Pine by at least two touchdowns.

Can any Wpial AAAA team beat Cathedral Prep up north come playoff time?
Mike White
11:06
Highly unlikely. But TJ had a chance to stay with them last year. TJ very good again. But Prep has all those D-1 kids and is looking unstoppable so far. Although I know many WPIAL coaches who aren't big Prep fans.

Knoch will upset Montour, let's go Knoch
Mike White
11:07
Doubt it. You wouldn't be a Knock parent, would you?

Mike, Have you ever seen or heard of a high school middle linebacker that had a more productive start to the year than Franklin Regional's Bryce Lauer?  The kid has 81 tackles in 4 games.  He is 6'3" and weighs 250 lbs.  He looks like Levon Kirkland playing for the Panthers.
Mike White
11:09
I don't know how many tackles Bryce Lauer has. But yes, he is very, very good. Coach Greg Botta raves about him and can't understand why Division I colleges haven't recruited him. Sometimes recruiting is hard to understand.

Hey Mike....what do you think of Pine's defense after the Bethel showing?  Legit?  Good enough to contend for a state title?
Mike White
11:10
Yes, they are legit. Everyone seems to question Pine's defense. Why? They've looked pretty good. Can they contend for a state title? Of course. But it's because of entire "team." And No. 1 is that kid at QB.

Mike, I'm just amazing looking at the inequity in some of the football conferences.  I mean Beaver mercy ruled KO and they may not even make the playoffs while KO stands in line to get a home game.  Do you think the WPIAL will balance out some of the powers when realignment occurs next year?  The same thing happened in several basketball sections as well.  I know there isn't an easy answer to it, but the best teams are not getting to the playoffs.
Mike White
11:14
This topic has been discussed over and over. The Beaver Valley Conference got hosed last year. It wasn't right and it's not right this year. But WPIAL said it won't change in middle of two-year cycle. So we must live with it. Hopefully WPIAL comes up with better system for next year when realignment occurs again. WPIAL uses mostly geography to make conferences. Do teams want to get away from that??? I don't know. But the biggest reason for this is Heinz Field games and WPIAL wanting to have four there. Maybe that will change also.

Hi Mike.  Have you seen this Robert Kennedy from Jeannette yet.  Threw one, ran one, picked one, and returned one Saturday against a good Imani team.  Why are only the Duquesne’s and Bobby Moe’s looking at him and not Pitt or at least MAC schools?
Mike White
11:16
I'm sure Robert Kennedy is good. But putting up numbers and doing good things on high school level has nothing to do with getting recruited by Division I schools.

Mike, is it time to admit North Hills chose the wrong alum to replace McCurry? Coach K runs a dynamic offense  at PR and is winning big time.
Mike White
11:21
I will never say any high school coach needs to go. It's high school. We don't need to be doing that. North Hills has had some tough losses. They are not one of the top 3-4 teams in 5A. I will say they haven't been exactly loaded with big time players. Eric Kasperowicz has done a terrific job at Pine-Richland. But let's not compare Pine and North Hills. Two totally different worlds for a number of reasons. But you don't think it helps to have two really good QBs right in a row?? DiNucci and Jurkovec. Yes, Kasperowicz has developed both but he has been blessed with two stud QBs. Jurkovec might be one of best in Western Pa. in years.

Mike, the recent incident between Jeannette and Imani Christian where the game was stopped in the 4th quarter by the Officials due to fighting, at what point are these players, coaches and/or Schools held accountable to the point where they lose their "privilege" to participate?
Mike White
11:24
If they did anything wrong, they will be held accountable. Hearing with WPIAL is tomorrow. And five Imani kids were thrown out and can't play this week. I'd say that's accountable. I wasn't there. I don't know what happened. It's not the first time skirmishes have been on the field and not the first time fans have done some not-so-good things. But before we make accusations, let's see what comes out of hearing tomorrow. But hearing will probably be closed because it's up to parties involved whether to have it open or closed.

When is the WPIAl finally going to rid themselves of a school like Imani?  Zero regulations on their recruiting, even says on their website that tuition doesn't even need to be paid!
Mike White
11:25
Well the WPIAL has tried to act on transfers. Ruled a few ineligible last year. PIAA overturned it. First time Imani was in WPIAL for football a few years ago there were also some problems.

no major D1 programs are looking for the 250 lb inside LB anymore.  they will all tell you that it's a speed game and they are looking for outside guys that can run and play "in space" as they like to say
Mike White
11:27
I agree with you on that. I really like Bryce Lauer also. Very good. But honestly, colleges really don't care if you make 20 tackles a game. Look at Zane Dudek last year? What more could a kid do and no D-1s wanted him. But did they make a mistake? Two games he has lit up Ivy League. He is Ivy Rookie of Week. But it's still the Ivy.

I want to know where the Bethel fan from last week is....the one that told you there weren't ranked high enough and weren't getting any respect.  :)
Mike White
11:28
I think he went to the end of the "we get no respect" line.
Golden Ram

Well what do u think about Highlands now?   Lol
Mike White
11:28
I don't know. They are 2-2. What should I think?

When asked about Cathedral Prep you discussed TJ (obviously since they played them last year).  How do you think South Fayette (assuming they get there) matches up with TJ at Heinz Field?
Mike White
11:29
TJ-South Fayette would be really interesting game. Different styles. But remember, many thought that would be the final last year and South Fayette got knocked out by New Castle.

no just an ex player for Knoch
Mike White
11:30
Oh OK. I take it you just don't like when anyone knocks Knoch.

Hi Mike, Penn Hills is just about to finish the cupcake portion of their schedule and have NA, Lebo, and PCC coming up. How far out on a limb would I  be if I said that Penn Hills could beat NA and PCC and be the #2 team in the North? I'm thinking pretty far, but if there was ever a year, its this one?
Mike White
11:32
After Pine, a number of teams are jumbled together. I saw Penn Hills. They have some talent and potential. They can play with NA and probably Central also. Wouldn't be shocking if they won one of those games.

I've seen the coverage on the whole Imani vs. Jeannette issues last week.  Being a small school I assume whichever players got ejected (and suspended) were important and that will greatly affect their showing this week against Clairton.  Would've liked to see how they matchup at full strength against the Bears but the kids only have themselves to blame for their actions.
Mike White
11:33
I think Clairton would have been the favorite, no matter if Imani had everyone or not. But this is not one of Clairton's best teams. Good, but not great.

Shaler at Butler this week? Who you taking?
Mike White
11:35
Excuse me while I yawn. Are you really asking me to pick this game? If so, Butler.
James Armstrong
11:36
What kind of numbers do Julian Major and Ronnie Stevenson have haven't read anything on them but the commit to schools
Mike White
11:36
Neither is doing much. Not sure about Stevenson, but I think Major was injured for a game or two.
