Pine-Richland should be good again. And Mars has Robby Carmody (Notre Dame) back. Watch Ethan Morton at Butler. And Sewickley should be good again. But watch Allderdice. They could be very good again. Not as good as two years ago, but good. Does that satisfy your basketball appetite in the fall?

Neat story out of the South Fayette game last week. TE - Noah Plack (D-1 FCS recruit for Delaware) played the game after losing his grandmother earlier in the week. The team had him be the sole captain at the coin toss and all gathered around him while he said a prayer before the game. Plack went on to have 5 Catches, 81 yards and 2 TDs (as well as playing stellar defense) before resting the entire 2nd half.

I give PR credit however consider this. They have had a D1 QB for the past 5 years with Ben and Phil however they have only won 1 WPIAL title. Yes only 1 title. They should win this year hands down with the current make up of the other contenders in NA and CC. If they dont run the table this year it would be a major choke job. Even if they do win it all this year that would only be 2 titles in 6 years with a major D1 QB at the helm. Sorry but that is simply not that impressive. Several other schools have done much more without those type of QB,s

If they win this year, it would be two WPIAL titles in five years. That's pretty good. And semifinals other two years. That's very good. So I disagree. That's pretty impressive.

Thoughts on the 6A format? I'm not a fan wish they coulda just went to 5A lose a lot of good rivalries and far road games. Could the PIAA go back to 4?

Mike, North Hills has some good skill positions, plus a returning QB. Play calling doesn't utilize them to their fullest. I think with Coach K & this team they would win 5A easily

Have no idea about play calling. I haven't seen North Hills. But if Knute Rockne came out of his grave and took over North HIlls, they would't win 5-A. That's delusional.

Quaker Valley opened my eyes last week (although I know Central Valley was without their quarterback). At this point in the season would you say they are the biggest threat to Aliquippa...that is if there is really any threat to Aliquippa.

Yes, Central Valley missed its QB. But I was a little surprised Central Valley's defense wasn't better. As for Quaker, what a story. Have to be one of the stories of the year. Can they play with Aliquippa???? Well the game is in a few weeks and it's at Quaker and that should help. But I'd still pick Quips. Line play might be difference. But I was impressed with Quaker.

Mike, What do you make of Washington narrowly beating Frazier last week? Seems odd only scoring 12 points against a winless team. Looking more and more like Btown will play Washington for the section title!

Washington score was shocking to me. Burgettstown having a nice season. Blue Devils could be good. But records of opponents is 5-15. They have played no one yet. A few more weeks and no more tomato cans.

I was at the Imani Christian game on Saturday and Imani needs to be censored and the next time it happens they need to be disbanded. Your thoughts?

I wasn't there so not fair for me to say anything. We'll know more after tomorrow hearing, but I would suspect Imani will be asked to come up with a plan to make sure this type of stuff doesn't happen again. Maybe Jeannette also.

Regarding "Not So Fast My Friend" and the thoughts on Pine...#1) Jurkovec got injured last year, things could've been very different; and #2) I think some people greatly underestimate how hard it is to win a WPIAL title in the highest classification. This is big boy football with a number of good teams, you have to be great to come out on top and beat 1 or 2 great teams along the way.

Mike, next year do you see any teams in 5a going to 6a? Or do you see teams moving down to 5a?

That's too hard to say. All depends on enrollment numbers and those are too hard to predict. There are always teams close who could move up and down. Sometimes it's a matter of a few students. But it's just too hard to predict.

Burgettstown has to go to Charleroi in 3 weeks. The Cougars have a very good passing attack and can run the ball. this should be a true test for both teams. Wash High beat Charleroi but it was only 6-0 at the half. Should get interesting. Don't count out Beth- Center either

Ben was a three year starter and this is Phil's 3rd year as a starter. So If they win this year it will be 2 title in 6 years of those two starting, and neither one has ever won 2 titles.

I don't care how long Ben DiNucci was a starter. No one thought of him as a Division I-A QB until his senior year, and he was going to go to Ivy when Pitt came in. Kasperowicz has been there five years. If they win WPIAL this year, that's two in five years. Even two in six years at highest level is really good. why the Pine hate?

After getting to see South Fayette play last week against Knoch wow they are a really good team. Who can stop them in 4a? Knoch vs Montour hopefully will be a good game dont ever count out Knoch. Lots of heart on that team
