Live from New York, it's Chaturday Night!  Kenan Thompson wasn't available this week, so you're stuck with me as chat host.  Let's get to the questions...

Thoughts on Wander Franco so far? His struggles seem a tad bit surprising, especially the strike outs. Do you think he’ll make adjustments the rest of the way?
Mark P
8:26
He's 20 years old and without even 70 MLB plate appearances.  Nobody should be surprised when prospects (even the bluest of blue chippers like Franco) struggle in their first look at big league pitching.
I'm not worried about Franco getting on track eventually, even if "eventually" isn't until 2022
Acuna
8:27
If Acuna is out for an extended period of time, do you see the Braves going after Kris Bryant?
Mark P
8:28
To be frank, I think there might be a better chance the Braves are deadline sellers if Acuna is out for a long time.  They'd need a real hot streak by July 30 in order to think they can still win (and have reason to add a big piece like Bryant) without Acuna

Will there be a backlash from front offices having the draft moved so close to the Trade Deadline after this year's 1st attempt to consolidate the Summer events ?
Mark P
8:29
I can see it altered again in the new collective bargaining agreement, since this year might have been a bit of a trial run due to all of the havoc wrought by the pandemic on college/high school baseball seasons and normal scouting procedures

With Angels GM Minasian's quote about the team's approach at the deadline what do you think is more important, Starting or relief pitching? Who should be some targets for them?
Mark P
8:31
Starting pitching is more valuable obviously, but the Halos are so in need of pitching of all sorts that I wouldn't balk at them just adding three relievers and trying to stop the bleeding in that fashion.

Heard rumors of a White Sox-Cubs deal. Hear anything? Bryant?
Mark P
8:32
the Quintana/Eloy deal notwithstanding, it's quite rare for the White Sox and Cubs to line up on trades.  I'd be very surprised if the White Sox are Bryant's next destination.

white sox are no doubt making move(s), but second base, catcher have to be the needs, right? maybe another bull pen arm.
Mark P
8:34
Catcher and 2B have eclipsed outfield as Chicago's biggest need, I believe you're right.  The Sox have Eloy on a rehab assignment and a lot of sheer outfield volume that can fill the positions, whereas it isn't as easy to address second base or (if Grandal is out for a long time) catcher.
8:35
Goodwin hitting like crazy has been a huge help to the Sox, undoubtedly

8:36
Who do you got winning the derby?
Mark P

Secretariat

If you mean the HR Derby, I dunno, Matt Olson

How active will the dodgers be? And are you privy to anything happening now? Also, Bellinger is looking more and more like a one-hit wonder. Lux is showing bust potential too. Any chance Triple A is in the offing for either one?
Mark P
8:40
I'd imagine the Dodgers will be as active as ever, since they haven't hesitated to swing big deadline moves in the past.  Starting pitching seems like the most obvious need.

A demotion would be shocking for Bellinger, and not out of the question for Lux.  "Bust potential" is a little overstated because again, not a big sample size here --- 448 career PA over 119 games, plus a pandemic that eliminated a minor league season.  Way too early for LA to give up on Lux as a viable big league player, but that doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't trade him at the deadline if the right deal came along

Will mets hold on to Conforto
Mark P
8:41
If I had to guess (and I do, since you just asked me a direct question), I think Conforto signs elsewhere this winter

Is Ohtani slightly overrated? As in, being compared to Babe Ruth
Mark P
8:43
Obviously Ohtani would have to keep this hitting up for a decade to draw a true comp to the Babe, but in terms of being a two-way impact player, it's hard to ignore the similarity

Is Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina a Hall of Fame duo?
Mark P
8:44
Molina is a HOFer in my books, Wainwright isn't.  Obviously a terrific career for Waino but not at a Cooperstown level, in my view.  A "hall of very good" guy.

Soto, Cisnero, and Boyd for Jo Adell ? Who says no?
Mark P
8:45
The Angels.  Those pitchers would all help LA, but Adell is too valuable

What will it cost me in prospects to get Kyle Hendricks from the Cubs?
Mark P
8:48
At least one of Ruiz and Gray, a couple of other top 10 guys, and maybe....Gavin Lux?  This is the kind of rare opportunity where I could see LA being willing to move Lux

That said, I do doubt Hendricks will be dealt.  I think Chicago will focus on the rental players for now, since moving Hendricks would indicate a wider-scale rebuild

I dont see the Twins trading anybody ... thoughts?
Mark P
8:52
Disagree, I don't see much reason for them to entirely stand pat.  The Twins won't entirely blow things up since they plan to contend next year, but some moves will surely happen by July 30

Starling marte scratched from starting line up tonight. Something brewing in Miami?
Mark P
8:53
Marte was scratched due to unspecified personal reasons.  No trade brewing here.

Will MLBTR be covering the draft tomorrow in any capacity?
Mark P
8:55
You bet.  We'll have at least a couple of posts going, including a running post detailing the first round's picks as they come in
Sharon Peters
8:56
Which of the Core 4 (Baez, Bryant, Contreras, Rizzo) do you see staying and going?
Mark P
8:56
From most to least likely, Bryant/Rizzo/Baez/Contreras is my order, and I can easily be talked into switching Rizzo and Baez

Deadline pickup that provided the biggest jolt?
