Do you think it's realistic that the Twins could lock up Dozier after the season, with 1 year left on his deal, or is it a virtual certainty that he hits free agency?  If so, do they ramp up efforts to trade him again?

If Os offer Machado 10 year 333 million, with opt out after 5 years. 18 mill the first year(last year of arb)and 35 the next 9. Does he say yes?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
Enough to make him think about it.

7 years 150 million a good number to extend Schoop? 10 and 15 mill last two years of arb and 25 mill for 5 FA years?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
Somebody wants his favorite team to go buck wild with extensions!
I think that's way steep for Schoop, honestly. He kinda can draw walks now, but the batting numbers are likely to draw back down to earth as his BABIP fades and power regresses.
2:30
Remember, the Nats signed pre-(or early-mid-)breakout Daniel Murphy -- who was probably about the same type of player (~3 WAR true talent, mostly driven by good bat) for 3/37.5 in free agency.
2:31
Murphy was much older, of course, but that's just a point of reference on open-market AAV. Also he had more clearly sustainable hitting skills

David Wright, player manager next year?
Jeffrey Todd

This would be amazing.

Last week pretty much take Jim Johnson off the Top 25 trade candidate list?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Ha, well ... bear in mind there are few really interesting, plausible trade candidates. I bet he's still on there, though that's Steve's baby in August.
Ben
2:33
Do the Cardinals do ANYTHING to improve the team via trade in August?
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
If there's any mildly interesting relief arm still capable of being had at a palatable price, they might do that. Maybe an outside chance they pick up a power bat if the Rays decide to cut their losses? Not sure I see a lot else.

Who's been bitten the hardest by injuries this year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
Mets, Nats, Mariners stand out to me, though I'm sure I'll now get a dozen other suggestions.

After the way jim johnson  pitched in the braves games last night. Do you think atlanta will release him or just keep him. Since he is owed the 5 million a year and since he cant go to AAA do to being a veteran pitcher with out his ok on. What do you think they should do.
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
Sit tight and hope he begins throwing better now or in the winter. They are 13 games under .500 so it doesn't really matter.

Who makes more sense in Anaheim next year, Gordon or Phillips?
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Were I running things, I wouldn't take on the Gordon contract if I could find a cheaper, shorter-term option for a bargain price. There are lots of possibilities at second -- cheaper veterans like Kendrick or Phillips/Utley, trade targets (Kinsler, Dozier, maybe even Forsythe) ...

What teams could the Braves trade Nick Markakis or Matt Kemp to this winter so that Ronald Acuna will have a spot?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Expectations are getting out of hand on Acuna. He is 19!
2:39
I don't see them putting him on the active roster out of camp. FWIW, I also don't really see either of Kemp/Markakis drawing much trade interest, though they could probably be dumped off if the Braves eat salary.

Will Profar ever become a big league regular?
Jeffrey Todd
2:40
Who knows? But I think he'll at least get a chance. See him moving this winter, finally.
Really would make a heck of a lot of sense for San Diego to just give him the starting SS job, wouldn't it?

I think the Reds have the Hits and the Closer.  If they could obtain an Archer-type and sign a #4ish pitcher.  They could put a staff of Archer/Castillo/{pick a healthy body from Bailey/Disco/Finney}/sign a #4/Romano or Stephenson.  Throw the rest of those guys to help in the bullpen.  We seen to be competitive to me.  Am i way off base?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
It is mostly off base, unfortunately. That just requires sooo many things to happen, and then for soo many players to perform up to and over expectations. Plus, you can't just go and get Archer ... he'd cost premium, young talent. Think: Castillo +++
2:43
Evidently, Miggy Cabrera and Austin Romine are brawling. LOL

Looks like Turner and Drew will rejoin the Nats on about 1-September.  I assume Difo will stay on the roster in September.  Which of those 3 ends up on the post season roster?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Obviously Turner will so long as he's healthy. Wait and see who's healthy/playing well between the others for a backup SS/bench piece. The addition of Kendrick reduces the need for Drew's bat off the bench (since Lind is already a power lefty), so they might end up preferring some speed from Difo. Then there's the outfield reserve logjam potential ...
2:45
Nats will just be happy if they have to address these questions b/c that would mean the roster is healthy.

Is Tim Tebow going to get September at bats in New York?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
No, but the stars are kind of aligning aren't they? How many left-handed bats have left the roster now?
Honky Tonk Man

The Giants have to get someone like Jay Bruce or Upton in the offseason, don't they?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Just hard to add yet another big, multi-year salary to that balance sheet. Wonder if they will aim for a lower price. I mean, Bruce may not be ALL that expensive, but they are walking a fine line already. And that's without a hypothetical 2nd Bumgarner extension added to the future payroll.
