Why would the Reds offer Cozart a QO? I feel there's a very good chance he accepts, and on the off chance he doesn't, a very little chance he'll cross the threshold to net them a top comp pick. Seems like an unnecessary risk for a team with surprisingly little payroll flexibility.

Tend to agree with your assessment, UncleWeez.

Will the Indians be able to sign Jay Bruce?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
If they feel they have to let Brantley walk b/c of injury risk, he could be an option. Would take about the same level of 2018 salary I'd guess ($12MM) though they'd also need to promise some future years.
I haven't drilled down on their payroll, but I would be surprised if they felt good about paying Bruce market rate otherwise.

Twins trade one of their Young outfielders for starting pitching
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
It could be an ok time for a FA signing, actually. Have some guys on the come. Berrios and Ervin holding it down. None of the OFs that you'd be comfortable trading would really bring back what you'd want to get, so perhaps better to let those guys keep sorting things out and go spend a little money on the staff?

What will a Lance Lynn contract look like?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Ervin Santana plus inflation seems to be where the MLBTR consensus is heading. He seems to think he's worth quite a lot more.

Could Ryon Healy be the bat Boston is looking for? Obviously the expectation would be to perform better than his numbers this season, but Healy + for JBJ?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Not sure I understand why people are trying to run JBJ out of Boston?
3:23
Odds are JBJ is a better MLB hitter than is Healy. And I'm quite certain he's a far more valuable player on D/bases.
That'd add a roll-of-the-dice DH/1B to a team that already has Hanley. And require spending money to fill in for JBJ in the OF.
3:24
Personally I'd rather just take advantage of the many quality bats in FA.

Do I trade Ellsbury for Bailey, can I get Wandy Peralta as a kicker?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Why would the Reds do this, though? They need pitching, so are almost certainly better served taking a shot at Homer bouncing back.
Just not a very plausible scenario all around, I'd say.

Would you rather have Bellinger or Rhys Hoskins in your lineup next year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
I'm all in on Rhys, man.
3:26
'Course Belli can also play the outfield.
(I know Hoskins did as well, but I mean play it well.)

What does a Nunez contract look like?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
I seem to be the high man at MLBTR on Eduardo. I think he'll get to three years, in the 20 mil range.
Brian Cashman
3:28
Ellsbury everyday player and both have similar contracts
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
Used to be an everyday player. The Reds have OF options. Just ... I don't see it, sorry.

Is Josh Donaldson that much better of a power-hitting and defensive third baseman than Jedd Gyorko? I think Gyorko,s value as a power-hitting good defensive third-baseman  is under valued. What do you think?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Yes.
That is the answer to your first question. He is that much better. Way, way better.
Gyorko has been a solid piece in STL, though. Not sure how that compares to his broader perception.
3:30
Like, Gyorko is worthy of starting for some team, though most contenders would probably rather have a better player for an everyday role.
A player like ... like the amazing Josh Donaldson!

Are you in on any of the young, struggling Reds pitchers (Reed, Garrett, or Davis)?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
I can buy into the volume approach, in that surely at least one or two will be useful enough. And at least one or two others will be useful enough relievers. May as well keep giving them chances for the time being.
It's just how things turned out, but they shouldn't go wild with buying pitching right now.

Are you just ignoring my question?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
You and everyone else I didn't get to, yes.
Not intentionally, mind you, but I did have to ignore a lot of questions. Always do, in fact.
But I tried to stay late to make up for starting late.
Now, I must depart.
3:33
Enjoy the World Series, everyone. Should continue to be a good one. I'll try to be on time next week!
