Acuna HYYYYYPE. My question though is Albies power for real, or small sample shenanigans?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
I wouldn't go penciling him in for 30 annually just yet, but it's obviously hugely promising. The guy is just 21 and obviously has the hit tool already, so if he has figured out how to keep his contact rate up (K's aren't a problem thus far) while generating power ... have to increase the expectations moving forward. Definitely trending more toward star player than good regular.

Do you have time to talk about our Lord and Savior Ronald Acuña Jr?
Jeffrey Todd

Bow down. I shall join you.

Am I done? Seems strange that no teams have given me a look since prior to getting sick last year I put up ok numbers.
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Never say never. But it wasn't really clear that he was strongly interested in playing and we've already seen some other guys in his class sign. On the one hand, that means he could yet. On the other, maybe the interest just hasn't been strong enough.
3:05
I'm certain he'd get a minors deal somewhere, but guys in that situation could be holding out for a clear assurance of moving onto the MLB roster, and that may not be forthcoming -- at least, in a place he wants to be.

What are your thoughts on ballpark design? Do you prefer pretty straightforward designs (Great American, Nats Park, or the more gimmicky (Fenway, Wrigley)
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Well, Fenway and Wrigley aren't gimmick parks. They were designed in their unique ways because of the constraints of the sites they were built on. That's why they are awesome.
Intentionally building in quirks, on the other hand, isn't super exciting to me. Compare, say, the warehouse at Camden Yards (awesome) and the old hill at Minute Maid (meh).
3:07
I haven't been to GABP but do like Nats Park for watching a game. It's low on frills and oriented toward actually engaging with the field of play.

Do you see Machado or Donaldson a better fit for the Cardinals?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
More relevant question is which would be available. No real reason to think at this point that JD will be. Machado still isn't a perfect fit for STL b/c it'd mean doing something with at least one of the other infielders (presumably, Wong or Gyorko), but he'd obviously be an upgrade.

When do the White Sox bring up Kopech?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Absolutely no rush. I think they'd rather let the guys they have up there now sort things out a while longer and let Kopech really force his way into the majors with a long run of success at Triple-A.

So Trevor Story still K’ing like a champ, but rocking a 122 wRC+ and playing plus D. Is he the new model for the surprisingly valuable guy in the TTO era?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
DeJong has a similar profile. It's better, I guess, than the old SS model of a guy who is a great fielder but just doesn't hit at all.
Mets
3:11
With Matz, Wheeler and Harvey struggling, do we put Lugo or Gsellman back in the rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Doesn't sound imminent and at this point, might those guys need to ramp up a bit first? Think they can afford some patience.

Is Nick Senzel not called up yet because the Reds are on the road? If so do you expect him to be called up on Monday?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
I think it's that a) service time; b) real developmental considerations (he's not dominating at Triple-A); c) do you really want him to come up now amidst all the negativity? d) don't have an immediate need for him
MARLINS MAN
3:15
Is Jarlin Garcia legit? What he did to the Yankees, Cubs, Mets and Dodgers was amazing. He looks like an ace
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
I haven't looked into it in any detail, but there's no way he maintains a .121 BABIP.

Is it too early to start to panic about the Nats or do you chalk this up to injuries to very good players?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Too early but also there is some concern, mostly just that they now have a hold to climb out of. If everyone gets back in a reasonable time frame, they still profile well.

Am I a Marlin still at the end of the year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Let's throw this to a poll, too.
Will Marlins trade JTR during the 2018 season?

Yes (47.1% | 170 votes)

No (52.9% | 191 votes)

Oh and I don't want to use these polls to duck questions. On Harvey, I'll guess they end up cutting him loose at some point.
3:19
On JTR, I'll guess he isn't traded mid-season. Both are close questions, though, given what we know now.

Were Santana and Hosmer the biggest free agent over pays? Who were the biggest bargains?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
I'll take Hosmer on the overpay side and Addison Reed for a notable bargain.

Is the Nuveau Toilet (new Yankee Stadium) the worst new stadium in Baseball?  Only Mediocre American Ballpark rivals it out of the 10 stadiums I've visited.
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Can't compare it to enough to say that, but I really did not like it when I went a few years back. Just feels fake and impersonal, not grand.
You never answer my questions
3:22
Except of course now you just did and I wasted it on complaining that you never answer thus causing another one of my legit questions to go unasnwered! Doh!

I should publish this at the start of every chat ha.
