Thoughts on the 1st place Cards?
Tim Dierkes
1:31
I have to admit, they're a lot closer to the Cubs than I thought they were.  I think both teams will make the playoffs, but the division race might be a coin flip right now.
Brian

Should the giants be concerned with Cuetos elbow???
Tim Dierkes
1:32
Of course...their chances this year decrease significantly if he can't come back strong in 6-8 weeks.

There's no way the Braves trade for Machado, right?  I can't see any way they sell off multiple prospects for a rental when they're not just one piece away
Tim Dierkes
1:33
The Braves are a perfectly reasonable destination for Machado.  The team is in first place and they have, let's say, a 15% chance of making the playoffs this year.  If they are still in the thick of things a month or so from now, they should go for it.

Any chance the Orioles get Chris Davis involved in the Manny Machado trade?
Tim Dierkes
1:33
It's a big ask to foist that contract on a team midseason.  It would narrow Machado's market considerably, and of course reduce the prospect return basically to nil.
Doyers
1:34
Realistically, what sort of prospect package would we have to put together to get Machado this week? Three Top 15 Prospects?
Tim Dierkes
1:35
Man, I wouldn't think so.  I think one Top 15 prospect, at any point, will probably be the best the Orioles can do.  I don't really expect them to get a top 15 guy.  I could see maybe a Kyle Wright/Mike Soroka level guy on the high end.
Pad Squad

The Padres have a lot of prospect depth but few future superstars. Do you think they should just let their prospects play out, or should they use most of them as trade chips to acquire real star-power in a year or two?
Tim Dierkes
1:36
What constitutes a superstar for you?  Some teams would kill to have one 60-grade prospect, but the Padres have, I dunno, 6-8 of them.  They are deep as hell.

Next pitcher to throw a no-hitter?
Tim Dierkes

I'll take Luis Severino.

Whats the biggest concern for Dodgers starting pitching a big bat or bullpen?
Tim Dierkes
1:41
Both big problem areas but the rotation feels shakier to me given the Kershaw situation.

Who's a realistic pitching trade target for the Yanks? I doubt TB trades Archer to them, Hamels has a no trade to the Yanks.. I can't pick an obvious one
Tim Dierkes
1:43
Tyson Ross, Ian Kennedy, Danny Duffy.

Matt Olson for Jameson Taillon? In a keeper league, have Mookie, Benintendi, Haniger and Olson
Tim Dierkes
1:43
Rather have Olson.

Fantasy - Would you drop either of Cain or Schwarber for Torres. Have plenty of OF's.
Tim Dierkes

I would not.

Is there some sort of explanation for the Dodgers season so far???
Tim Dierkes
1:44
Injuries top the list.  It can happen to any team.  I didn't see them as abnormally prone to it.
HB
1:44
With Kershaw suffering another injury, might teams think twice before signing him at the end of the year?
Tim Dierkes
1:46
It depends on how quickly he gets back this year.  But he has accumulated enough of an injury history that the term of his contract will likely start shrinking from the assumed seven years.  Back on Apr 17 I had him at seven years, $252MM.  On a five-year deal he would probably drop under $200MM.
John
1:46
Would Machado ever agree to an extension for a team looking to trade for him? Or will he definitely test the open market
Tim Dierkes
1:47
For any player/agent, there is a number out there that would prevent him from reaching the open market.  For example, I had Machado at 12/360 when I last thought about it.  Since then he's been on fire.  If a team acquires Manny and comes up with an offer in the range of $400MM, I'm sure he'd give that serious consideration.
1:48
To answer your question, I give Manny a 99% chance of reaching the open market.
Brian

Any trade rumors on the Cubs? Theyre struggling badly.
Tim Dierkes
1:50
It's just too early for trade rumors, and the Cubs don't have an obvious area to upgrade.  I'm sure the Cubs are thinking they just need Rizzo, Contreras, and Happ to start hitting around expectations, and their offense will be good.  There's plenty of reason for concern for just about all rotation members outside of Hendricks, but the Cubs are basically locked into their starting five.

Angels = wild card?
Tim Dierkes
1:51
Yeah, I think it's basically Angels vs. Blue Jays for the last AL WC slot.  Could leave some room for the Jays in that discussion.  But the AL playoff picture isn't too exciting, with four teams already looking highly likely.
Rangers fan
1:51
When do the Rangers realize that this season and next season are lost and start trading guys like Beltre,  Hamels, Choo etc???
Tim Dierkes
1:52
I'm pretty sure they know they're already a super long shot for the playoffs.  The club is in a bad place, because the veterans you'd like to see dealt are generally difficult to move and won't bring back much.
Theo
1:52
Would Russell be enough to get Many?
Tim Dierkes
1:54
He's only 24, but his stock is definitely down right now.  Plus, after this year, you're kind of just getting three years of him.  I think the Orioles would look elsewhere, for more of a blue chip prospect or guy with minimal service time.
