Hey everyone! Hit me with some questions and we'll get this thing rolling in a couple of minutes ...
John
3:04
Was releasing Valencia really the Orioles best option?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
No reason to think they wouldn't have traded him if there was interest. Teams probably aren't interested in adding him to their rosters right now. Maybe when rosters expand, sure.
They could've waited, but really, they weren't going to get anything.
Dean
3:06
What do you think the Tigers will do with SS Jose Iglesias in his last year before free agency.
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Still think he gets traded this month. Already cleared trade waivers so that tells you what you need to know about his value.
Cardsfan
3:07
Do u see Cards keeping Ozuna after the season or trading him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
They sure have traded away a lot of outfielders. But it's going to be tough to get value and that'd mean paring back depth. I expect he stays.
Pad Squad
3:08
The Padres seem to want to give opportunities to guys like Franmil Reyes, Franchy Cordero, Hunter Renfroe, Travis Jankowski. Shouldn’t they stop this practice and start packaging these depth pieces for All-Star caliber guys? Their farm system is number one due to depth, not star power. Let’s use it to acquire star power rather than give time to these guys who will more than likely be somewhere around average.
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Think there are some prospect hounds who'd disagree there isn't any possible star power in that farm.
As for the guys you mention ... you aren't packaging players like that for "All-Star caliber guys."
3:10
Generally, it's obviously preferable to get high-end players out of your own system. That's what everyone wants. And at some point you can trade some lower-ceiling types for existing MLB assets, for sure. But prospects who can be average regulars or quality role players are still valuable, because they hold out the promise of doing so at bargain prices that free you up to add other assets.

Do u see any relief pitcher getting through waivers for Boston or is joe Kelly Matt Barnes and Heath Hembree setting up Craig Kimbrel come postseason
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
There are going to be some options, sure, but it's pretty unlikely that any of them will blow your hair back.
3:12
Addison Reed might be the most interesting guy who could be moved, though he has not been in top form of late.
Thomas
3:12
Do the Indians make any waiver deals before 9/1?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Think they will have to get another outfielder, or add elsewhere (Josh Donaldson?!?!) and bump Kipnis to the OF. It's all tweaking for the postseason, but no reason they won't be active.
Nebraska Tim
3:14
What is a realistic package that would land Josh Donaldson?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
The Jays will not have much leverage. Still unclear how they will play it ... put him on waivers as soon as he's eligible? Wait until the very end of the month? Would they realistically pay him the rest of the way and hopefully be in position to give him a qualifying offer if the offer isn't good enough?
3:16
Still hard to know how the situation will play out because we don't know when and how the moves will unfold that even get to the point of actual negotiations.

Terrance Gore was only a speedster, should we have gotten more than just money in return? Even if it was a low end prospect.
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
No, not really

Acuna or Trout for the next five years?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Dude
Come on
3:19
We all love Acuna but this isn't a serious question!
Parsley
3:20
Does Acuna Jr. have a legit shot at ROTY?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Yes
That is reasonable
Mr Red
3:21
If the Reds trade for an ace using Senzel as a centerpiece, sign a solid number 2, and maybe add a good lefty to the pen could they contend in 2019?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Could they? Perhaps, sure. But that'd mean parting with some serious top-end farm talent and paying a huge amount for the pitcher. "Solid number 2" means top-40 SP in baseball. Maybe Corbin would meet that among pending free agents? Get out your wallet.
3:23
That approach is full of risk. Not that there isn't any risk in staying patient. But if they believe in Senzel they probably ought to hope he becomes part of the core and find the pitching elsewhere. Esp since he's not going to be as valued on the market given his shortened season.

3:24
If Snell were to sign an extension this offseason, does something in the range of what Corey Kluber got make sense? 5/50 and 2 team options seems reasonable to me.
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Age was a huge factor in Kluber's deal. Even then, it wasn't even a $40MM guarantee. The money you propose for Snell would really be setting a new market rate for young pitchers in the 2+ service class. For the longest time they have received 30 and change.
3:26
Not to say it couldn't happen, just giving context. Not sure Rays would go that far, but they are very aggressive with extensions.
Gerrit Cole Hamels
3:27
Could Cole Hamels have fetched more? That PTBNL return was weak, and Rangers picked up most of the tab
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Further proof that teams are not overly wowed by results and track record.
I didn't find anything surprising. He had not been pitching to his prior levels for some time.
