Hey all ... send your finest questions and I'll start answering in a few ...

With the NL Central still being so tight, do any of the teams sell?
Jeffrey Todd
8:07
It's certainly still possible. I'd guess the Pirates are likeliest, for a few reasons. They always need to be reloading, and we've seen them have "think of the future while being mindful of the present" deadlines in prior years. If they slip further back, all bets are off.
8:09
The Reds seem less likely. For one, they've already kinda declared themselves buyers. They are doing more of a competitive cycle thing than the Bucs are interested in, and they fancy themselves rising. I think perhaps they feel like they invested in the few rental guys they added over the winter in anticipation of seeing if they could make a run at it. Dealing them won't result in huge returns anyway. Even if the postseason isn't all that likely, it's possible, and they'd hate to punt a chance.

Saw today the Phillies have recently scouted Marcus Stroman and Robbie Ray. Do we land one of them before the deadline and for who?
Jeffrey Todd
8:11
I really couldn't say they're a favorite for either guy. They absolutely should be getting a firm idea of the price tags on these dudes but they've also got to think about more than just the back half of this season and 2020. There are plenty of other clubs with as good an argument to  pursue those guys. I'd say the Phils are just another member of the pack on paper.
Oh, Hi Mark!
8:12
Should the Royals roll Billy Hamilton at SS for two weeks to try and bump that utility/speed value up to a moderately decent prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
8:12
I don't think any contenders will be utilizing Billy Hamilton at shortstop down the stretch, regardless whether the Royals do. He's going to end up in another org but I don't think much is going back to KC.

8:13
Who will the Red Sox target for their bullpen?
Jeffrey Todd
8:13
Cost will be the primary driver, I think.
Giants
8:13
Can you guys write an article that looks at whether the Giants recent play is legit? They have been on a roll.
Jeffrey Todd
8:14
And the Mets had a great start. Most teams have a run of some kind during a season. They are already totally sunk in the division. As things stand, by selling they can control much of the trade market, esp for relief pitching. That's too good an opportunity to pass up for some small shot at creeping into the Wild Card.
8:15
Remember that there are going to be other teams in stronger buy positions that will add pieces to rosters that are already better on paper. The other divisions are competitive, so you'll have multiple teams adding. The Giants will likely lose ground in terms of MLB talent just by standing pat.

Is there a realistic chance the Yankees DON’T make the playoffs?  Their 2nd half schedule is brutal, the starting pitching is at best shaky and their better relievers are all on pace to throw 80+ games.
Jeffrey Todd
8:16
Define realistic.
8:17
Like, Dumb and Dumber "more like one in a million" ... "so you're telling me there's a chance!"
Sure, there are reasonable scenarios where they don't make it, but for the most part it's all but sealed up already.
Also they are going to get better at the deadline, right? Can't ignore that.

What do you think KCs next move would be and soon? Trading their C or RP?
Jeffrey Todd
8:18
Diekman would seem likeliest to go first
er, second ... after Bailey. Unless they find a taker for Gore, in which case third.
8:19
Unless you count Gregerson also ... or Chris Owings ...
(Boxberger, sorry, not Gregerson)

If Rangers decide to sell high on Mike Minor what kind of package does he bring in? Top 25 + top 100 guy?
Jeffrey Todd
8:20
I can imagine them holding out for that sort of a package. It seems tough to imagine them getting quite that. Good as Minor has been, there's the injury track record to be accounted for. And he doesn't have especially dominant peripherals.

With reports Omar minaya is scouting dievi Garcia, the assumption is that it’s in regards to a Noah or wheeler trade...what would that trade look like in terms of prospects?
Jeffrey Todd
8:23
Well I saw that, but ... is he really specifically scouting Garcia? And in regards to a near-term trade possibility? Teams are going to be looking at lots of different guys. They also want to have a good gauge on top young players around the game.
There are two other things to consider when you see a report like that.
8:24
When you think about why that info was released ... who had what reason for it to make its way to a reporter? Were they just trying to create the appearance of market interest or team action so that other orgs would take notice? Or to distract from something else?
8:25
And second - much harder to assess but worth bearing in mind - what other internal dynamics might be at play within an organization?
Anyway, in this case ... suppose the teams start talking and the Mets start asking about Garcia. Don't you think the Yanks are going to want a different Mets pitcher to be involved to even have that conversation?

Should I extend Bryant or Baez first?
Jeffrey Todd
8:27
It's not a matter of who's first. It's a question whether either will sign for a price that works for the organization. I'd want to know my price for both and begin exploring to see whether either or both are interested in earnest.
8:28
Feels a bit tough to imagine Bryant, in particular, going for an extension. He has had big earnings all along the way, is a Boras guy, and then there was that whole service manipulation thing at the outset.
Go rays
8:29
What would an aggressive move (that still exists in the realms of reality) look like for the Rays this deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
8:31
The payroll is still awfully low, so I think they should have some flexibility still. I know they are trying to pinch pennies - as usual but also with the ballpark situation - but then again doesn't the ballpark situation make this an opportune time to go for it a bit? That's why they gave Morton a much bigger salary than they typically do. (Haven't looked to see but ... was that a franchise record AAV?) And now they know just what the situation looks like. It hurts that the division is likely gone but hey, it's the AL East. They still have some chance at it and a good road to the Wild Card.

What will Albert's role be next year with so many younger players coming up? Thaiss 1B or 3B LaStella back next year and with Simmons, Rengifo and Fletcher in the INF.
Jeffrey Todd
8:33
I don't know, but it hurts their roster quite a bit. Honestly, if he was just about anybody other than Albert Pujols, and wasn't earning all that cash, etc, he would not be on a MLB roster.
8:34
Now in his 3rd straight season with significantly below avg batting line, and he's limited to only some time at first base and can't run. I mean ...

Would frank, Mateo, Holmes be too much or too little for John Means?
