Last week's discussion of trades, signings, roster moves, etc. seems like a million years ago, doesn't it?  Let's dive into some questions (transaction-related, season-starting related, or whatever) in this strange new world.
Derrek
7:03
Do you think we will see any transactions from now until the season starts?
Mark P
7:04
If and when some version of Spring Training resumes, some roster moves will be inevitable.  Teams still hadn't made their final cuts, after all.

In terms of other moves, I kind of doubt we'll see any kind of significant trades.  Perhaps a contract extension or two could be possible, however

Over/under May 15th for opening day?
Mark P
7:05
May 15th would be an absolute best-case scenario.  The latest reports said Memorial Day weekend and even that could be optimistic
KH
7:05
Any idea how this shut down impacts service time?
Mark P
7:06
This is one of many issues still being discussed between the league and the MLBPA.  We might not have an answer until we know what type of season (if any?) will actually be played
Brant
7:06
Are you worried about Snell’s elbow?
Mark P
7:07
Any elbow injury is cause for concern, though the Rays were still penciling Snell into the original Opening Day rotation.  The extended time off could give him more time to fully get ready
Josh
7:08
162 seems impossible at this point, no?
Mark P
7:08
I'd say so.

7:08
Is there really anything to talk about?
Mark P
7:09
I thought about this before even posting tonight's chat, but figured some might like a bit of a break to just talk baseball, maybe try and get a bit of normalcy back

Maybe no one is asking questions and I can get mine answered. :)

Pache ceiling? Just below Acuna or more like Kiermaier?
Mark P
7:10
I'd say closer to Kiermaier just because "just below Acuna" is an awfully high bar.  Pache has a lot of promise but I'm not willing to say that he'll be something like a top 15-20 player in the sport (with Acuna being top five)

Brad Hand for Dom Smith make sense?
Mark P
7:10
Not for Cleveland, no
Chris
7:11
If the season gets cancelled will there still be a draft? And will next year's draft have the same order? i.e. do the tigers get two number 1 picks or 1 if their is no season?
Mark P
7:13
Another issue that I'm sure is being debated right now within the league.  I would imagine that a draft still happens, as odd as it would be to have teams making picks without having scouted these kids in months.  Depending on the health situation at the time, perhaps some private workouts could be arranged, though that's much different than gauging these players in a game environment
MN Twins
7:13
is it time for the twins to move on from Rosario and start seeing what Larnach/Kirilloff are all about??
Mark P
7:14
The Twins were reportedly open to moving Rosario this offseason, so it's probably safe to say he isn't in their long-term plans.  For 2020, however, Rosario is more of a sure thing for a team trying to win a World Series than two unproven rookies, no matter no highly touted prospects they are

How do you feel the Mariners "Reimagined" is going? Any idea on positions they may target next free agency?
Mark P
7:17
2020 will be an interesting year for the M's, as if enough of their younger guys start producing, I could see them perhaps start making notable signings by next offseason.  Sort of similar to how the Jays felt good enough about their young core last year that they were bold enough to spend on Ryu this winter
Chris
7:17
Which team stands to be hurt the most by a shortened season?
SouthJerseySteve
7:18
Which players or organizations will benefit the most from the delays?
Mark P
7:18
Impossible to say.  This is an unprecedented situation.

The idea of a postseason played at neutral sites is horrifying. This can't actually happen right?
Mark P
7:20
If the league does explore playing games into November (or December??), it'll almost have to be a necessity
JDH
7:21
Wouldn’t it make sense for the league to play the games behind closed doors and continue to generate some form of revenue by way of TV deals?
Mark P
7:22
A closed-door game will involves hundreds of people (players, coaches, training staff, team officials, umpires, stadium personnel) gathering in one place.  It still presents a big risk.

7:22
Thoughts on me trading Semien before his contract expires for prospects? Seems like a move I would make due to the abundance of middle infielders in the farm system
Mark P
7:24
Only if the A's falter right out of the gate and fall well out of the race.  By not exploring a Semien trade this offseason, I think the A's were giving a signal that they planned to contend in 2020, and thus were willing to let Semien walk for only a draft pick next winter if need be.

7:24
Still no Red Sox investigation report?
Mark P
7:25
The league has some bigger things on its plate right now, but it wouldn't shock me to see the report released as quietly as possible over the next couple of weeks
Padre Rob
7:26
Wonder if would see scheduled double headers again to make up games. Or if the union would say no?
Mark P
7:27
It's a possibility.  I'm sure doubleheaders would be considered, and I wonder if we'd get expanded rosters not just for doubleheaders but maybe even the entire season, owing to the need to make up games in a shortened span

7:28
Do you see the halos making the playoffs even with their subpar pitching? Or at least the wild card?
Mark P
7:29
A wild card isn't out of the question.  With a shortened season, frankly, almost any team now has a chance since anyone can get hot for a month and bank enough wins.

First ever question answered. Awesome thanks. Also thanks for just doing a chat during these crazy times.
