Hey everyone ... room is now open for questions. Once it's good'n full in a few minutes here, we'll get cracking.
Question man
2:02
How many double headers are scheduled now?
Jeffrey Todd
2:02
I would not assume much at all about the schedule as it currently stands.
Nick
2:03
You have to bet your life savings, does this season finish?
Jeffrey Todd
2:03
I mean ... what odds are you giving me?
2:04
If I was forced to pick a side right now at even odds ... dang, I don't know. I'm on that fence.
Gun to my head, I'm taking yes, they finish.
They're pretty darn committed to making it to that postseason $$$
Question man
2:05
Will the Marlins be able to field a major league team once their ban is lifted? Can Jeter un-retire?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
It isn't really going to be a MLB team, no.
2:06
Obviously there will be a lot of guys that have played in MLB and have had recent shots at filling out MLB rosters. But it's overall going to be a roster loaded with replacement-level guys.

The Phillies rebuild is a meaningful disappointment, right?  COVID-19 will steal a year of Bryce's prime, we are two years into what should be the "competitive years" and they finished .500 last year, and the rebuild did not produce any org-changing homegrown talent (for them, or for anyone they traded with in-progress).  Should I be more hopeful (even with that pitching staff?)
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
I'm not ready to declare anything yet, but .. it certainly hasn't been a rousing success.
Sophmore studs
2:09
Shane Bieber or Mike soroka, who you taking
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
I mean, just two starts so far this year but ... holy smokes Bieber. The insane K numbers are something else. I'd take him right now based upon the newly raised ceiling.
2:10
Also I believe he had stronger peripherals than Soroka last year.
A week in
2:10
At least everything's gone smoothly thus far.
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
Yeah ... nothing to see here
2:11
It is rough. No doubt. That was to be expected to an extent. But man, why is MLB shooting itself in the foot? Letting the Marlins play was ridiculous.
Also how did the Marlins end up with so many infections?!

Does The Braves Need another Ace in The Rotation
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Who doesn't?
Hat tip to your Band of Brothers reference!
MADrigal
2:12
Should have been there from day 1. Humor me, how did a week in Schaumburg make him ready to go today?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
Um ... just wanted to make him really appreciate it when he got the call?
Yeah, it's more of a farce than ever. But we all know the game at this point.

2:14
Why are the Cards going to play tomorrow?  Seems like they should be shelved like the Phillies to ensure that there aren’t more positive tests coming.
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Are they? I must have missed that.
2:15
That seems very dumb unless they can be pretty sure through contact tracing that the infected guys weren't in contact with other players. Which seems rather unlikely.
Suppose more Cards have it, then whatever team they plan gets the Phillies treatment. It's just ... shouldn't this all have been planned out in advance?!?!
Blue & Orange
2:16
Time to start looking for a trade partner for Diaz?  Seems like he is not going to thrive in NY.
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Suboptimal time to do that. Drop him into a lesser role if you need to but they need to try to get him right.
Matt
2:17
What can MLB do to control Covid outbreaks? It seems like currently the plan is to cross our fingers
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Well the thing is, MLB doesn't exist in a vacuum. It exists in a country where the virus has been allowed to spread quite widely.
2:19
I totally agree with a stringent plan, but short of a literal lockdown of players it'd be tough to fully prevent outside contacts. And this thing can seep in. How many times have we seen people say they were infected despite taking pretty strong measures?
2:20
To me, the biggest problem with the plan is that it doesn't seem especially clear. The Marlins thing was just baffling. But it's possible that it doesn't matter. There may not be a plan -- short of a bubble, which would be very hard for MLB -- that will work in the broader context.
Ernie
2:20
At this point and time can players still option out of playing?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Yes, any time.
2:21
7-inning doubleheaders now official
Just this year (so far)
