Hey, a trade happened and it didn't involve Dipoto!!!
4:37
One of the best hitters in baseball to the Cardinals for 3 players who weren't expected to be a big part of the '19 team. And a draft pick (Top 80ish, I think). Not bad.
4:39
Paul Goldschmidt's first 7 full MLB seasons ... .299/.400/.534; 201 HR, 258 2B.  Doesn't get much better, although Albert Pujols' 1st 7 MLB seasons were better (.332/.420/.620; 282 HR).

With Goldy gone Greinke and Ray would give angels a healthy and legit rotation.  Am I dreaming?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:40
For the Angels to get Ray, they'd probably have to take on Greinke and a big part of his salary. No indication as of now that the Angels are willing to spend stupid money again. So not sure if that's a possibility.

Do you expect the Phillies to sign Harper or machado?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:41
Yes. Very confident that they will.
I'd guess Harper.

4:41
Do you think Braves will make any more moves?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:42
Oh yeah. They need a corner OF to hit behind Freeman. And I also expect them to get a closer.
4:43
They have plenty of trade chips and some good FA agent options that should fall in their price range.

Am I the only one who like the D-Backs side of the trade?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:46
It's not a return that anyone will get too excited about. But Kelly and Weaver were Top 50 prospects (I think; at least Top 100) a couple years ago. They've fallen off the radar a bit because Kelly hasn't gotten a chance to play and Weaver was inconsistent in his first full season. Pitching in the Majors is difficult. Catching is very difficult. Not every prospect is a star right away.
If Kelly ends up being a slightly above average regular and Weaver a good No. 3 SP in a couple years, I think they'd be happy with it.
4:47
Dbacks lost Corbin and Pollock and don't appear to have the resources to make up for those losses. Therefore, they have made the decision to get what they can for Goldy. Not a huge market for 1B, even one of the best in baseball.
4:48
With that said, I think it's a great deal for the Cardinals.

4:48
I think the DBacks could have gotten more for Goldschmidt. What's your thoughts?

4:49
I trust that Hazen did his due diligence. These GMs are smart. No doubt that he knew which teams were interested and what they were willing to give up.
Hello
4:50
Mets trading for Realmuto.. how likely to happen?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:51
Sounds like they're in trying. Might need to include Amed Rosario to get it done and then fill SS via free agency.
4:52
If that free agent SS was Machado, Mets are a legit playoff contender. But they'd probably sign Freddy Galvis or Jose Iglesias if Rosario was traded.

4:52
Who's the Miles Mikolas of this year? (Coming over from NPB or KBO)
AvatarJason Martinez
4:55
Merrill Kelly signed a 2-yr, $5.5MM deal with Arizona yesterday. Pitched in the KBO last 4 years. Haven't heard much buzz about anyone else. Teams will be trying to find the next Mikolas but hard to match what he did coming over from Japan. Hard to know if these guys have figured it out after being away for so long.

4:55
Who is the front runner to acquire Eovaldi?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:56
Talks are "intensifying" with the Red Sox. That's a bold description for a free agent rumor so I'm guessing he re-signs.

What can the blue jays realistically do with tulo?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:58
Not much. They still owe him $38MM. If he's not healthy, he's on the DL. If he's healthy, I think they should try to give him 3-4 starts per week at SS and hope he stays healthy and regains some trade value.

Are Jonathan Schoop and/or Billy Hamilton good candidates for a 1 year deal to restore value? Gives us a temporary 2B solution for the year and OF depth.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:00
Definitely. Both are young. No need to sign a multi-year deal with value way down. If they are productive, they'll get paid well on multi-year contracts next offseason.
5:01
I want to say that playing half of their games at Coors Field would help their value greatly, but teams might hold it against them.

Where does the lefty end up?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:02
I hear Arizona might need a 1B.

5:03
What will cards do with jose martinez now that they have acquired paul goldschmidt
AvatarJason Martinez
5:04
Depends on how much they trust him out in RF. He played there almost exclusively in the 2nd half. If he doesn't kill him out there, he could be their primary RF. But Tyler O'Neill will push him for ABs and Dexter Fowler, barring a trade, will get every chance to win his starting job back.
5:05
A trade to the AL still makes a lot of sense for Martinez.

How do you think this move by the Dbacks affects the Padres plans? Dodgers are monsters, but Colorado seems shaky and the Giants don’t seem competitive. Does this make the Padres try to force the window open a little sooner?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:09
I think they were willing to make a splash whether the Dbacks and Giants go backwards or not. Any impact move to make them better in 2019 was expected to be a long-term fit (3+ years). Would it make them more likely to add a frontline SP with only 2 years left (Stroman, Ray, Bauer)? Sure. I can see that.

Am I the next Ben Zobrist in Tampa?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:13
You have a chance. Daniel Robertson is more versatile right now. He had a very good season while playing 2B, SS, 3B, LF.
