Thoughts on Bob Nightengale saying that the Marlins plan to start the fire sale after the ASG?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:33
That's reasonable. 10 games out of Wild Card now with a bunch of teams ahead of them. Unless they win 5 in a row heading into the break, seems like they're pretty much done for '17.
HOF for Rose!
4:34
Orioles buyers or sellers and can they actually get anything that will help them make the playoffs?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:35
Only a few games out so I doubt they'll sell. If they were, I don't know that they have a lot of trade chips with good enough value. Maybe Brach and O'Day. Britton has been hurt and Machado isn't have a good season so not a good time to sell on either.

Any good rumors on the Yankee side?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:36
Ji-Man Choi is their starting 1B. Don't need any rumors to know they could use another bat.
Also could use a setup man with Clippard struggling this season and Betances' control issues. A lot of good relievers should be available. Wonder if they could get Justin Wilson back.

Chances McCutchen gets traded at the Trade Deadline?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:38
Really depends on where the Pirates are in the standings in 3 weeks. If they're still a contender, in their opinion, I'd put the chances at very slim. If not, I think they'll be very aggressive in trying to move him. His value won't be any higher between now and the end of his contract.

Bigger return, Gray or Quintana?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:42
Very close right now. Quintana is under control thru '20. Gray is under control thru '19. Quintana has been better as of late, but has had some horrible starts this season. I'd lean slightly towards Gray, especially if he has a few more very good starts leading up to deadline.

Do you think there is a chance the Nationals would give up Victor Robles for Brad Hand?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:44
Not a chance. Top 10-20 prospects, if they're dealt, are used to acquire an impact hitter or starting pitcher. Aroldis Chapman to Cubs for Gleyber Torres was a rare case because Cubs were, arguably, one player away from being WS favorites. And Chapman was considered one of the best closers in the game.

Besides DC, where could I end up by the deadline?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:47
There are some shaky closer situations around the league. Colome has been bad for TB as of late. KC and MIN could be interested if the White Sox took on salary. Braves seem like they can be aggressive and Dbacks could use another late-inning guy.

If Cutch gets traded to the Dodgers, would Verdugo and Calhoun be a package that would do it?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:49
Sure, I could see them being part of the deal. I think the Dodgers could also trade a young position player off of their MLB roster in a case where they acquired a position player. Maybe Chris Taylor or Joc Pederson. Don't think the Pirates would want Puig.

Any chance I overtake Aaron Judge for rookie of the year?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:52
No way Judge keeps this up at this rate, but you have a lot of catching up to do. You can make it close, but Judge's HR  are so much fun to watch and that will make a big impact on voting.

Hey Jason love your chats great to have a notable writer from San Diego. What would it take to get Stanton for the pads?  He's a west coast guy I know his contract is unappealing but he could definitely have turnstile appeal to fans here
AvatarJason Martinez
4:55
Thanks Ray. Don't think it's happening. Even if ownership approved that kind of contract, I don't think Preller is willing to trade away as much talent as the Marlins would ask for right now. When the Padres are 1 impact bat away from being a WS contender in 2-3 years, that's when he'd consider something that major!

Any good news for STL
AvatarJason Martinez
4:56
Yep. They're having a horrible season and they're only 4.5 games out in the division.

Which of the Brewer's stud prospects are they most likely to give up for pitching and who is a reasonable get for them?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:58
I don't think they go all out for a frontline guy this year. I can see them trading Ryan Cordell for a back-of-rotation guy.

Hey Jason. Who are some players the Cleveland Indians could realistically target and be good fits for the team?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:02
I honestly don't think they'll do much and don't have to do much.  What are their weaknesses? It's the same core of guys from last year, plus EE and Brantley. And one of their best prospects, Bradley Zimmer.
Willy
5:04
Will Adames be the Rays SS this season or do we wait till next season?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:04
I think he'll get a September call-up since he's on the 40-man, but more likely in the mix for 2018.
Willy
5:06
Will Kopech pitch for the WSox this season or next?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:06
Maybe not until 2019. 53 BBs in 78.1 IP. Definitely not this season. He's only 21 and still learning how to pitch with that 100+ MPH fastball.
Adam
5:08
What could the Brewers get for Corey Knebel?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:08
A lot. Under contract thru '21 and establishing himself as one of the top relievers in the game. They're not trading him, though. One of the keys to their surprising success in '17.

Do you see the Cubs making a big splash SP wise, here in the next 3-4 weeks, or stand pat with what they have?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:11
I think they'll be open to either. Depends on what they consider the best deal. There are so many options (frontline, mid-rotation, rental, long-term). At this point, I'd lean towards something bigger since they really need a spark. Still in World Series hangover mode.

Whats the good news when it comes to the San Francisco Giants.
AvatarJason Martinez

Matt Cain's contract is off the books after this season.

5:14
What could the Orioles get in return if they traded Zach Britton?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:14
If he hadn't already been on the DL twice this season, this would be a fun topic. Probably a Top 25-50 prospect as the centerpiece of the deal. More if a team was desperate enough. But he won't be traded with his health status a question mark.
