Welcome! A few topics on the table ... Remaining Free Agents, team strengths and weaknesses, Position Battles, Spring Training standouts, Prospect ETAs, Best free agents available in 2017-18, anything related to rosters/depth charts.

Will Senzel debut in late 2017 or is 2018 more realistic for him?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:33
Typically, a rebuilding team doesn't have a great reason to promote a top prospect and start his free agency/arb clock. The Braves had their reasons for promoting Dansby, but it's rare. I'd expect Senzel in early 2018.
Goose Goslin
4:34
Is Koda Glover for real?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:35
For Dusty Baker to include a rookie with Kelley and Treinen in the closer battle, that tells you a lot. Has a decent chance to take the job by mid-season and keep it.
Angel Pagan
4:36
Will I get a major league deal?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:37
Barring an injury to an OF who is an important part of a team's roster, sounds like it's not happening. Surprisingly, Pagan is only getting MiLB offers.

Your Best guess of the Braves Bench?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:40
Assuming it's a 4-man bench, it's Jace Peterson, Chase d'Arnaud, Kurt Suzuki and one more from a group of uninspiring options. Seems like Francoeur would be a great fit, as well as many others who have signed elsewhere. Maybe Micah Johnson or Emilio Bonifacio has the edge right now.

Red Sox weaknesses?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:42
SP depth, if Price's elbow injury lingers. They need one of Henry Owens or Brian Johnson to take a step forward because it's likely that they'll be needed.
Alex Clough
4:44
Do you think Joe Kelly has a good shot at getting a spot at the end of the Red Sox rotation.
AvatarJason Martinez
4:44
No. It sounds like he'll stay in a relief role. Finished '16 strong. Throws high 90s. Could be their 7th inning setup man.
Angel fan
4:45
The two Angels' catchers on the ML roster are batting a combined .103 in ST. That's even below the Mathis line. Are there any available catchers with offensive potential that the Angels could acquire?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:46
I don't know if they're expecting much offense out of Maldonado. He was acquired for his defense. With that said, Derek Norris would be a logical fit and it wouldn't surprise me if they acquired him before Opening Day.
Comeback player of the year
4:47
Is Lance lynn a good possibility for comeback player of the year. I feel like he has always been under the radar.
AvatarJason Martinez
4:48
Definitely. 4 consecutive very good seasons before injury. He's only slightly under the radar because people forget about how good after missing a full season.
padres
4:49
Is manuel margot and hunter renfroe legit candidates for starting jobs due to lack of veteran presence on the padres
AvatarJason Martinez
4:49
Most likely scenario is that Margot, Renfroe, Jankowski and Dickerson will share time. Plenty of ABs for all 4 of them. However, if Margot or Renfroe struggle badly in Spring Training, I think they'll go to AAA and someone like Jabari Blash could make the team as the 4th OF.
Butters
4:52
Who will be the Mets 5th starter?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:52
With Wheeler expected to stay back in Extended Spring Training until he's 100%, I think it will be Gsellman. Lugo and maybe even Rafael Montero (7 IP, ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 10 K this spring) are also in the mix.
Beev Stannon
4:53
Can the Reds compete again before Votto stops being VOTTO?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:53
Yep. I think he has a few more seasons at his peak and then he'll still be pretty good as he approaches his late 30's. Unfortunately, they're wasting peak Votto right now but a rebuild was necessary.
Medias Blancas
4:54
Even if Giolito continues to impress he starts in AAA right? Also, will James Shields lose 25 games this year?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:54
Yep. He won't be given 30+ starts, so it makes sense to monitor his workload in AAA and then call him up later in the season.
4:56
If Shields is as bad as he was with the Sox last season, he'll be released/demoted to 'pen before he gets anywhere close. I also think he's a bounce back candidate. He was very good over his 1st 9-10 starts last season and was traded after one horrible start. He should be better prepared mentally this season.
Bryan
4:57
Can Sam Travis break camp on the big league roster?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:57
If Hanley's shoulder injury lingers, I could see that.
AJ "Rockstar" Preller
4:58
Should I keep Hand and Buchter past the All Star Break?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:58
Keep them until you get a good enough offer, whether that's now, July 31st or next offseason.
mmddyyyy
4:59
What do you consider a long game?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:00
Game time doesn't matter, but any game with an appearance by Joaquin Benoit, Alex Torres or Pedro Baez feels like a 4 hour game. Torture.
Jacob
5:02
Who is ATL long term closer
AvatarJason Martinez
5:02
I think Mauricio Cabrera made a pretty good impression last season. Plus, he throws 102 MPH. I think he's the favorite to have the job long-term.
Alex Clough
5:04
If the Red Sox have struggles at 3rd Base, do you think the Red Sox will promote Rafeal Devers to the Big Leagues or give him some more time?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:04
Long shot. But if Devers is having a huge season in AA, Panda gets hurt and Holt/Rutledge/Hernandez aren't really doing much, I can see it happening.
Rick Renteria
5:05
At some point in spring training I have to run out the same name lineup right?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:05
Some managers don't even do that during the regular season.
Mets, Man!
5:07
What do you think will happen with the Conforto/Jay Bruce drama? Conforto going back down?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:08
At this point, it will be tough to get him more than 2-3 starts per week unless Bruce or Granderson get hurt. I do think he makes the 25-man roster, but will have to get some at-bats in AAA at some point if he's not playing much in the majors.
