Welcome. Already a busy Wednesday. Alex Reyes made his '18 debut. Maeda, Samardzija, Buxton to the DL. Another win for the Red Sox. Brewers also win.

What is the status on Melancon?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:36
Likely back on Friday. I would set expectations low. Hasn't been healthy in a while.

Does Alex wood regression  make that trade not look bad for the braves anymore
AvatarJason Martinez
4:38
Not at all. Still a bad deal for ATL. Some regression was inevitable for Wood after what he did last season. But he's still a good, young lefty starter with multiple years of team control. Lots of value.

Why does the DFA process take so long? Hanley is going to miss a month because he got cut
AvatarJason Martinez
4:40
It was actually shortened from 10 to 7 days last season. So he could be back in action soon, depending on where he lands.

4:40
Is Gleyber Torres really this good?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:41
He wasn't considered one of the best prospects in baseball for no reason.
Joe
4:41
What can the Mariners get for Kyle Lewis.
AvatarJason Martinez
4:42
Not nearly as much as if he plays the rest of this season without getting hurt and puts up big numbers. Off to a decent start in High-A, but 1 BB/17 K is ugly.

How impressed are you with the Brewers? I think they have what it takes to take the division. Can see them making a trade or utilizing Corbin burnes or Freddy Peralta in the rotation this year.
AvatarJason Martinez
4:45
Very impressed. Reminds me of the Orioles' teams that went to the playoffs a few years back. Shutdown bullpen, plenty of offense and a rotation that is just good enough. 5-6 solid innings and hand the lead to the bullpen.
4:46
I think they have the prospects to add a frontline starter, but I can see them standing pat because they're good enough to get to the playoffs with what they have.
Derrick
4:47
Who gets the callup first? Kolby Allard or Austin Riley
AvatarJason Martinez
4:47
Because pitchers get hurt so often, I'll give the nod to Allard. But also because Riley has struggled in AAA and Allard has been really good.
Nosaj
4:48
What ever happened to Brady Aiken?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:49
Hasn't pitched in '18. Not sure if he's hurt. Wouldn't surprise me if he's just working out in extended ST and could pitch in short season. Had more BBs than Ks last season. Difficult to do.

Hanley Ramirez goes to the ______ ?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:51
Who needs a right-handed hitting 1B/DH? Maybe the Twins. He could platoon with Morrison.
Todd
4:52
How many current Padres are going to be on different teams come August?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:53
Definitely Tyson Ross. And I'll make a bold prediction and say that Brad Hand gets traded. Makes too much sense for a contending team. It will cost more than it would've last season now that he's signed for a few years.
Lane
4:54
What will the twins do with their rotation when Santana comes back
AvatarJason Martinez
4:54
Could be a while since he had a setback today. But I'd guess that Fernando Romero is the odd man out if everyone is healthy. None of the other 4 guys are going anywhere.
Jake
4:55
Do you see Whit Merrifield having decent value come trade deadline?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:57
Yep. Versatile. Gets on base. Runs well. 4 1/2 years of control.  He's a good fit with a lot of contenders. Will be interesting to see if KC is willing to trade him.
Bill
4:57
Do the Royals have any short stop prospects ready to come up.  I can't watch Escobar any more
AvatarJason Martinez
4:59
Mondesi has been playing more SS than 2B in Triple-A. Where he ends up probably depends on what they do with Merrifield. Nicky Lopez is having a good season in Double-A. More walks than Ks. KC likes him a lot.

Lots of good looking kiddos out there...who ya got as ROY in both leagues?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:02
Gleyber vs Ohtani in the AL. Will be difficult to beat out Maybe Walker Buehler in the NL. Christian Villanueva will be in the mix if he ends up with 30+ HR.
Brian M
5:03
With what he is currently doing, how long before we see Peter Alonso in the bugs?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:07
The thing to keep in mind is that Dominic Smith had a huge season in AAA last year. And he's 6 months younger than Smith. I'm not saying he won't get a look this year or that he'd struggle as badly as Smith in the Majors. But I just think they'd be less willing to rush another 1B prospect.

Does the latest news about Darvish explain why he has not been as good as expected?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:08
It's hard enough to get MLB hitters out when your arm doesn't hurt. So yeah, I think it's a big reason. Even if it's a mild injury, that would have an effect.

How can you say Austin Riley has struggled in AAA?? Especially for his age, I think he's played pretty dang well...What do you see that I don't??
AvatarJason Martinez
5:11
He hasn't been horrible. But he's 13 for his last 50 with 0 HR, 2 2B, 3 BB, 21 K. Clearly has some work to do.

Should the guys sell - sell - sell and start getting ready for Era of Jr and Bichette
AvatarJason Martinez
5:14
Looking that way. But things can change in two months. They're 9 games out of a WC spot. Could easily get back to within 3-5 games if they have a good 2-3 week run. If they continue to go backwards, though, I can see them actively shopping their best players by late June/early July.
Enrique Martinez
5:15
I feel like throwing up just saying this but do the dbacks need to call up Tomas to help out?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:16
Yasmany has a .583 OPS with 2 HR, 5 BB and 49 K in 45 Triple-A games. And that's in the PCL, one of the most hitter-friendly leagues in the Minors. I'd bet on Rusney Castillo making it back to the Majors before Yasmany.
