Is Joe Girardi back?

I really can't see him walking away from this team, especially after this post-season. They are so good and fun to watch. I'm assuming they're fun to manage, too.

Any big moves for the Phillies this offseason? I'd like to start winning.
AvatarJason Martinez

Yes. Should be major players in free agency. They've pretty much cleared their payroll ... https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-philadelphia-phillies-info/ Also have a strong farm system (talent and depth) so wouldn't be surprised if they were active on the trade market.

What kind of deal is Eduardo Nunez looking at? Could he be a fit for the Angels? I haven't heard much about his health status since the ALDS
AvatarJason Martinez

Because of his versatility and lower price tag (I'm thinking 2-3 years at $7-10MM per season), he's a fit on pretty much every team.  I think he'll land wherever he has the best shot at regular playing time. Angels make a lot of sense.

Could a trade centered around Edwin Diaz for Alex Reyes happen?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:40
I think we'll hear Alex Reyes' name a lot in offseason trade talks. Not sure a team like the Mariners would give up a significant piece for a guy who might not be able to help much, if at all in '18 (TJ surgery recovery can take up to 18 months), but I wouldn't rule it out. Reyes is still an elite prospect and he'll still have 4 years of club control after '18.
5:41
I would think it makes more sense for a rebuilding team (Marlins, Padres, White Sox) to acquire Reyes so they can ease him back in later in the season.

Is there any way I get a qualifying offer ? Can I fetch a multi-year contract at 15m a year?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:44
Yes, because it's likely he'll be able to land a deal in the 3 yr, $45MM range. At his age (entering his age-32 season), I think he'd take that multi-year deal at $15MM per season rather than a 1 yr, $17.4MM deal.

What contract is Brandon Morrow looking at this offseason?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:46
It's risky, but I think he's at least in the 2 yr, $15MM range and possibly something close to what Ryan Madson got (3 yr, $22MM). Madson missed his ages 31-33 seasons due to injury and he's been going strong for ages 34-36. Morrow is entering his age 34 season.

I keep Donaldson.  Thoughts?
AvatarJason Martinez

If you want to win in '18, definitely keep him. You can always shop him in late July if things aren't going too well. If you trade him, might as well blow the whole thing up and start over.

What kind of return could Betances have at this point?  Yanks have lost trust but he still has outstanding stuff...
AvatarJason Martinez
5:52
Value has probably dropped some but Yankees' asking price probably hasn't based on any struggles because they have all the leverage. Question is whether a team will meet that asking price despite Betances looking very shaky at times. Teams will be interested if the Yankees drop their price tag.

Realistic slash line for Albies next year?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:56
I think he'll go through some growing pains, but is good enough that he won't go into a prolonged slump that results in a demotion. With that said, I think he finishes around .270/.335/.410 with 12-15 HRs, 25 2B, 10 3B, 25 SB. Not bad for a 21 year old kid.

Unexpected big name that could be traded in the offseason?
AvatarJason Martinez

Kyle Schwarber. Yasmani Grandal. Danny Salazar. Not sure if any of those guys would be a major surprise.

Odorizzi to the Braves for Matt Adams?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:00
Rays got Logan Morrison for $2.5MM. It's easy to find a good value at 1B. They don't need to trade a very good SP to replace him. Adams could be a fit, but probably for a mid-level prospect or two.
Hello Jason
6:01
What do you think is realistic for the marlins to expect back if they take on none of Stanton's salary?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:02
Even if they can clear the entire salary, I have to think they'd land at least one Top 50 prospect. This is why I don't think the Giants have any chance.
6:04
Gotta wrap it up. Thanks for chatting. Enjoy the ballgame. Go Cubs (only because playoff sweeps are no fun)!
