Any news on Alex Reyes' TJ recovery? Is he on track to be ready for next April or will it take more time?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:10
TJ recovery always seems to be going ahead of schedule but usually is 16-18 month range for a starter. There are a few exceptions, but I wouldn't expect the Cardinals to rush back their prized SP prospect. My ETA would be start of 2nd half.

Do the Phillies push Velasquez and Appel into the bullpen to get the most out of them.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:14
It's probably getting to that point with Appel. Not sure if they're quite there with Velazquez yet. So much upside but health is a major issue. Reds did it with Raisel Iglesias and Michael Lorenzen and that's worked out pretty good so far.

You're Joe Girardi - who are your set 3 starters for the playoffs, assuming the Yankees make and win the Wild Card Game?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:14
Severino, Tanaka, Gray.

Do you think kopech will get called up next year?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:16
I do think he'll get a look late in the season. Needs to stop walking so many hitters if he wants to force his way onto the roster earlier in the season.

Phillies future looking brighter than the Mets at this point of time?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:20
I'd take Phillies in 2019 and beyond. Mets could bounce back in 2018, though, if Syndergaard and Matz are healthy.

Between Asuaje, Spangenberg, and Solarte, who do you think is most likely traded this offseason from the Padres? Is it more likely they all stay?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:21
Probably Solarte since he has the most value and he's close to free agency. I hope not. Love that guy even if he's the slowest runner in the league. Jose Pirela and Solarte can flat out hit. Fun to watch.

Any real trade value for Julio Teheran this offseason or is his value too low to justify a return?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:23
He does have value. But not a good time since his value is down a bit since he hasn't been very good this season.
Mike Hazen
5:24
Should Zack Greinke be my Opening Day starter in 2018?  He is good.  But he sure consumes a lot of my payroll.  Options?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:25
Robbie Ray is also deserving of the Opening Day start. It'll be Greinke, though. He's earning his $ this season.

How much information do you have at your finger tips prior to going into these weekly chats?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:29
I'm pretty much paying attention to any relevant news whenever I'm awake and get caught up if I do fall of the radar at all. And it's very easy to look things up these days.

Was Severino projected to be this good? Honestly, as a rookie I wasn't too impressed as he couldn't work deep into games. He's clearly worked on some stuff.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:32
Yes, he did have this kind of ceiling and showed signs of being a dominant starter as a rookie. Sophomore slumps are common. Always important to give a player with that much upside a few years to breakout. Once it all comes together, this is the result.

Should Jerry Dipoto go into Rehab for his addiction to trades?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:33
I love trades and I'm a big fan of building depth and trading away guys he didn't draft/sign. But this does seem like a bit much. He could have a trade addiction.

Jason, where do you see reason for hope for us Giants fans?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:36
The roster is filled with experienced players in their prime. If Cueto bounces back and Melancon can get healthy, I think they'll be fine. Christian Arroyo or Chris Shaw taking a step forward and becoming a solid MLB regular would also help.

Who are the top 3 prospects in the minors at the start of spring training?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:37
My latest guess is Gleyber Torres, Ronald Acuña and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

5:39
Who's an extreme ground ball starting pitcher the Reds could target this winter
AvatarJason Martinez
5:40
Jaime Garcia, Jhoulys Chacin and Clayton Richard are free agents who get a lot of ground balls.

Solarte has looked good at ss can u see him staying there next season.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:41
If they can't acquire a regular SS or bring back Aybar (he's been very good after a slow start), I can see him playing there at least semi-regularly. Not enough range to be the long-term answer, though.

At what point do the Rangers bench napoli and odor both with obps under 300
AvatarJason Martinez
5:43
Pretty good reason to call up Willie Calhoun. Not sure if it's happening, though. Haven't heard anything.

Gotta run. Thanks for chatting! If I didn't get to your question, feel free to send it to @mlbdepthcharts.
