Steve Adams
3:05
Hello all. Let's chat about things and discuss the world's mysteries.
3:06
Hmm, I'm not getting any questions rolling in. Hopefully a quick refresh fixes that?
Heyyyyyyy there they are. Weird.
Phil
3:06
Any word about the tigers?
Steve Adams
3:06
Just that their asking prices are comically high. Michael Conforto for one year of J.D. Martinez isn't happening.
Clay Buchholz

Could trading me free up the money to sign someone like Bautista? Thanks
Steve Adams
3:08
I guess, if Bautista's going to end up taking a one-year deal, but they've remained pretty committed to not signing a DH type to a multi-year deal, and Moreland will probably see the bulk of that time now, rotating between 1B and DH with Hanley. Sandoval will probably get some DH time, too, with Holt getting the occasional look at 3B.

Nationals closer on opening day? I think Shawn Kelley is good and experienced enough anyway.
Steve Adams
3:09
He's plenty good, but he ended the season injured in the playoffs and the durability concerns there are real. They'll get someone else in there -- Greg Holland seems like their kind of upside play (plus the Boras connection), though I don't know that they'll just give him the ninth right off the bat. I think if they were going to get something for Robertson done, it'd have happened when they were talking Eaton.

Who am I?
Steve Adams
3:11
You're Jean Val Jean.

Truthfully, I did partly take this question to make a geeky Les Mis reference. But also, I like them to get something weird with Edwin done -- go the Cespedes route and sign something like 3/60 with 25MM in year one and an opt-out next winter. I don't know where Encarnacion is getting even the 4/80 he rejected from the Jays now, which presents the opportunity to get creative. Jump on it, Antonetti.

Does Greg Holland even want to be a relief pitcher /closer?
Steve Adams
3:11
That's all he's ever been. Are you thinking of Derek Holland?
Bob
3:11
Is there any market at all for Matt Adams ?
Steve Adams
3:12
Cardinals fans love to throw Matt Adams into trade scenarios, but I see an injury-prone platoon bat that is one of the worst performers in baseball against left-handed pitching. I don't think there's much value there, especially since the market has about 7-8 players of comparable skill set.

Thoughts on the Quintana to Astros proposal. I personally think it's fair given how proven Quintana is, but maybe if the Sox add Nate Jones and the Astros add a guy like Garrett Stubbs it would then be fair
Steve Adams
3:13
I thought the ask was perfectly reasonable. Frankly, I'd have expected them to ask for a fourth piece along with Musgrove, Martes and Tucker. Four years of Quintana at less than $40MM is a hilarious bargain.

Will Kenley opt out?
Steve Adams
3:14
If he's healthy and doesn't experience any significant decline, absolutely, but there's no way of knowing how that plays out.

Winner and loser of the Winter meetings?
Steve Adams
3:15
Assigning "winners" and "losers" to trades that will take, in some cases, half of a decade or more to play out some six days after they happen is silly and reactionary.

I think the White Sox got great value out of the assets they moved, but that's purely on paper right now, and it could look like they got fleeced two years from now.
Orioles
3:16
Should we go after EE?
Steve Adams
3:17
I can't fathom why they're so hell-bent on giving Trumbo four years but won't just up the price and get the clearly better player. Give EE 120 starts at DH, 40 at 1B (in a timeshare with Davis) and go cheaper in the outfield, where the market has more options anyhow. Re-signing Trumbo to play right field at $13MM+ annually is sheer lunacy.

What teams still have shopping left to do before Christmas?
Steve Adams
3:18
Most of them. I don't think there's any one team that feels like it's done upgrading. And the ones who aren't planning to upgrade are the ones who are still looking to sell off pieces.

Why is Cargo still ah Rock? He played a full healthy season TRADE HIM NOW!
Steve Adams
3:20
I can't comprehend why they're interested in extending him unless he's going to take Josh Reddick money or something. But, since they clearly don't seem motivated to move him, I'd say put him at first base and run out an outfield of Desmond-Dahl-Blackmon with Parra in a bench role (or traded elsewhere for a different bad contract)
Wellington Castillo
3:20
Where will I sign?
Steve Adams
3:21
I'd have thought Orioles or Rays but neither seems overly likely now. Braves still need more catching help, though he hardly fits the defensive profile in which they've shown interest. Rockies?
Nationals still need a backstop, too.

Chances the Yankees trade Gardner/Headley? chances the return is better than what they got for McCann?
Steve Adams
3:26
There aren't that many teams looking for third base help -- certainly not ones that are going to feel the need to take on another $26MM in Headley's deal. Gardner works and I still like the idea of swapping him for a veteran SP, but two avenues have dried up there with the Cardinals signing Fowler and the Nationals landing Eaton.

At this point I'd bet against either being moved.

Is the Astros offseason finished?
Steve Adams
3:26
I'll be surprised if they don't add some form of rotation help.
bmcferren
3:26
Who hangs up first? Austin Meadows, Mitch Keller, Josh Harrison, and Bastardo for Verlander and JaCoby Jones
Steve Adams
3:27
You have Verlander waiving a full no-trade clause and the Pirates taking on an $84MM contract in this scenario -- I don't think it's plausible on either end, and that's before even getting into the names that are listed.
Cubsfandan
3:27
Any recent news on Tyson Ross? Where do you think he will end up?
Steve Adams
3:28
He's in no rush to sign and probably won't do so until he's further along in his recovery from TOS surgery. I'd look more in January/February for him to sign.
2nd base
3:28
Will the dodgers bring up a 2nd baseman from with in?
Steve Adams
3:29
Nah, they'll bring in someone from outside the organization. Dozier makes a lot of sense now that they're seemingly wrapping up Turner and are done with Jansen.
