But that's a tough sell.
Unless they plan to roll three lines I don't think they'd want to take minutes away from Miller either.
6:46
But everyone is forgetting about David Desharnais. I don't think it's out of the question that he starts as the 3C with Grabner on his wing.

Mr. Gavin Lee,  Thanks for doing this.  If you and your wife show up in Raleigh, I'll buy you and her a beer and a famous Carolina BBQ at the game.
Gavin Lee
6:47
I'd love to take you up on that.
Maybe we'll detour to Raleigh on our way to Florida this year.
6:48
I've yet to see a game in Carolina.
Jake
6:48
Who do you think the Pittsburgh penguins are getting for matta
Gavin Lee
6:49
It's hard to predict what impact center the Penguins are waiting for. If it's Staal, Maatta likely wouldn't be involved. If it's Duchene though..
6:51
Thing is, there aren't a lot of teams with an impact center to give up, who aren't also going after the Cup this year.
Tough market to be a buyer in.

6:53
Where do you think Chris Lee will play this season? Still a chance of NHL contract/PTO?
Gavin Lee
6:53
Honestly I think he stays in the KHL.
Hard to pass up a chance to play in the Olympics (and perhaps even wear a letter) at 36 for a PTO or two-way deal.
6:54
I know it's a dream to get to the NHL, but if there's nothing guaranteed that's a big thing to give up.
He might attend camp somewhere, but unless someone is willing to put him in the lineup every night, why not just try to win a medal.
Jake
6:55
You think staal coming back to Pittsburgh
Gavin Lee
6:55
I don't, but plenty of people have kicked around the idea
6:56
If it wasn't Philadelphia, I would wonder if the Penguins would kick around on Sean Couturier.
But hard to imagine that happening.
Harry
6:57
Maata to TO, JVR to Carolina, Staal to Pittsburg
Gavin Lee
6:57
Carolina and Toronto both lose in this scenario. But that's coming from someone who doesn't think very much of Maatta.
6:58
Anyway, Toronto can't put another 4MM+ on the left side.
Harry
6:58
He looked bad in the playoffs for sure. I thought he had some upside though.
Gavin Lee
6:58
He does, it's just that contract is paying for his upside already.
Mike
6:59
Do u see the caps signing a Cody franson, vanek, stafford or any other FA to a cheap contract?
Gavin Lee
6:59
At this point they'd have to move money out if they did.
7:00
Unless one of them comes at the league minimum, the Caps are so cash strapped they'll have to go with minor league guys.
Them not buying out Orpik still blows me away.
Markus
7:02
Which team will do something similar to Otowa's surprising playoffs this season?
Gavin Lee
7:02
If I had to pick a surprise, it would be Carolina
7:03
They're so deep on defense, and have a goaltender they believe in now.
If Justin Williams has any magic left, they could do something special.
7:04
No one talks about him as a superstar, but Jeff Skinner had 37 goals last year.
Jake
7:06
Do you like staal
Gavin Lee
7:07
I think Jordan's a fine player miscast in Carolina, Eric is an outstanding player who I'm glad to see rebound, and Marc is a below average player who fell off a cliff after an incredible start.
Austyn
7:07
What about spooner from Boston as a 3c option for Pitt/nyr?  What kind of return can Boston expect for him?
Gavin Lee
7:07
I think Spooner is one of the guys that Rutherford knows he could go and get, but wants something better.
7:08
But I don't think he fits into New York, because their isn't much room on the powerplay there.
7:09
As for a return, that contract is actually pretty palatable. They might be able to coax a legitimate defender out of someone, or even a first closer to the deadline.
