It certainly seems like there won't be a Holtby trade, but I also can't see how they can fit him in at this point.

He's lost some negotiating leverage with a down year, but he still has quite the resume

After handing a huge check to Backstrom, it doesn't make much sense to me for the Capitals to hand another one to Holtby

The Penguins aren't done, by any means. I imagine Galchenyuk will be moved out at some point, and they've tried to move Johnson and Bjugstad in the past.

I think they add some more experience on the back end, and get another player to throw in the top-nine forward mix

Not necessarily rentals though. Look at some names that have another year.

The Sabres have tested the market for several of their defenders, but Botterill doesn't seem to like where it sits right now.

Martinez might be the best bet because of his year of control, but it sounds like they're happy to take a second+ for him.

Still, they'll be involved in players at the deadline but I've said for more than a year now that I don't think they really want to play in the super high-priced rentals.

At this point, that means Kreider I guess.

If the Hurricanes really decide to "shake-up" their defense as people are suggesting, I think someone is going to steal a player from them.

Not that it won't be the right move for Carolina, for right now at least, but there are too many good ones down there to think they could just shed one and make any substantial change.
