Hello and welcome!
Boy, the offseason is in full swing isn't it
I'll let some questions roll in and get started in a few minutes
Mike

Sabres appear to really have to pivot this year and remake the roster. Will they have a trade completed before the draft?
Gavin Lee
6:05
Something could certainly be done between the expansion draft and entry draft, but I think you'll see them wait until at least after the first one
The market for Eichel/Reinhart/Ristolainen will be larger after expansion is over, and they don't really have anything to worry about in terms of losing a good player right now
6:06
Skinner waiving gave them an extra slot too
Elwood

Prediction on where Parise lands?
Gavin Lee
6:06
I can't predict anything other than the Islanders for this one
Elwood
6:06
Prediction on where Suter lands?
Gavin Lee
6:07
For suter, I think it's a little more complicated
He could go to the Islanders as well, but there are probably 10-12 other teams that would be calling about him
6:08
Basically any contender could use him if the price is right. He's still a legitimate top-4 option
6:09
Wouldn't it be hilarious to see him end up in Tampa Bay on a minimum deal
Gabriel Landeskog
6:09
I’m still in Colorado come October despite all the recent “drama”, right? And if not, where would be the likeliest landing spots?
Gavin Lee
6:10
I still think it is more likely that he returns to Colorado, but if the reporting is accurate, there is a long way to go
If he hits the open market, the Blues are going to make a huge push for him. Maybe enough to price out anyone else
6:11
There was some chatter about Toronto, but it doesn't make a ton of sense to me. The Canucks would go hard after him too.
Make no mistake though, probably 20+ teams would be calling

Could Seattle draft Shea Weber? If healthy he is captain. Not healthy, they put him on LTIR for two seasons then have him retire and get cap credits! Of course, he would have to play along, but is this possible?
Gavin Lee
6:12
Haha, this is certainly galaxy brain stuff.
I do not believe it will play out that way, but it's certainly a fun idea to think about
Mike
6:13
Sabres don’t have to protect Risto do they?
Gavin Lee
6:13
They don't have to, no.
But not protecting him would be silly. Trade him if you want the cap space, but don't let him go for free.
6:14
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big Ristolainen supporter, but they could trade him still.

What do you see the Wild doing now that Sauter & Praise are gone, but having quite a bit of dead cap space?  What is to become of Krill the Thrill?
Gavin Lee
6:14
So just on a little tangent here, I'm not sure why everyone is freaking out about the "dead cap space"
6:15
The Wild were going to have dead cap space anyway. Parise wasn't even playing for them
If you stick his 7.5 in the press box, that's dead cap space that also takes up a roster spot
They can't waive him because he has a NMC
There's no burying that in the minors
6:16
Buying out Suter now is taking advantage of the big cap benefit you get this season, and betting that in two more years he will also be an anchor.
That's a pretty good bet I'd say, and the benefit is $10M in cap space this season and still a little bit even in two years
I actually love the move from Minnesota's standpoint
Even though it was shocking
6:18
They'll be able to use that space this season to sign Kaprizov and go big game hunting in free agency. "What about next year!" Well, Rask's 4 million comes off net year, for one, and the team doesn't have any really hefty new deals to make (Greenway and Kahkonen, but those shouldn't be cap-killers).
MN Boy
6:20
I love both moves, my question wasn't about dead cap space whether they are sitting on a beach in the Bahamas or sitting in the press box, my question is, are the Wild hamstrung with dead cap space?  I believe they can lock up Krill the Thrill but are limited to what other moves they can make in the coming years unless the cap were to jump.
Gavin Lee
6:20
That's what I mean though, they have more flexibility with $14M in "dead cap space" than they did with two players who can't help anymore
They just saved themselves cap, even in two years when it looks like they didn't
