Gavin Lee
9:02
Hello and welcome!
I'm very excited to be hosting a chat again, this has been a wild year and nothing feels normal, but we can try!
9:03
I'll let some questions roll in and get started in a few minutes.
Joe
9:09
any word on what the Pens plan to do?
Gavin Lee
9:09
All eyes right now are on Marc-Andre Fleury and if they can find a way to bring him back. The Penguins would love to, but obviously not at that price.
9:10
There has been a misunderstanding a bit on what Vegas has been trying to do. The second-round pick they've offered is to try and get a third team involved to eat part of the salary--not a second round pick to take on Fleury.
That sweetener hasn't been revealed yet.
The Penguins also never hid their interest in Chris Tanev, the older brother of their previous free agent splash
9:11
I think they'll move on him if his market isn't huge
IFR Huge Leafs Fan
9:11
What moves do you expect the Leafs to make to shore up their D?
Gavin Lee
9:11
Probably not the ones you want them to make.
I don't think Toronto will be able to land Pietrangelo if he makes it to market, for one.
9:12
I don't think TJ Brodie is the answer there either.
More likely they go with two lesser names instead of one, even if Mikko Lehtonen is looking mighty fine over in the KHL right now.
Earl
9:13
What do you think the flyer will do. Will they acquire Patrick laine?
Gavin Lee
9:13
I am not convinced that Laine will move at all, and getting Paul Stastny back this morning only strengthens the belief that they'll try to make it work
It was always going to be a very tough deal to make, but why not try to re-energize him with a center that he loved playing beside
9:14
For the Flyers, I do think they'll add some depth up front but I'd be surprised if they took any really big swings.
9:15
A player like Craig Smith might be a nice fit for them though, adding some more talent on the right side and a little more goal scoring
Chris
9:16
Columbus cap clearing, might it be for trades ie Tampa and not necessarily free agents?
Gavin Lee
9:16
I think it's important to remember that before yesterday, the Blue Jackets didn't have enough cap space to re-sign their own RFAs.
9:17
Pierre-Luc Dubois is their future and they know it, this might simply be making room to get him in on a long-term deal.
9:18
That said, I can't help but wonder if there isn't a presentation being cooked up for Pietrangelo. Kekalainen usually zags when we think he's going to zig, and remember he has very close ties with the Blues defender. He's actually the person who drafted him.
Imagine having Seth Jones or Alex Pietrangelo out for an entire playoff game
If they do move David Savard, it's possible
Mike
9:19
Nashville and Columbus moves out quite a it of cap space. Big fish hunting? And what do you think they will address?
Gavin Lee
9:19
Nashville was definitely clearing the deck for some big moves today.
9:20
Wouldn't it be fun to reunite Taylor Hall and Matt Duchene, who have played on a line together at multiple World Championships?
The Predators need to change their identity on offense. It's possible to do that today
Mike
9:20
OEL does he become a Canuck or Bruin this morning?
Gavin Lee
9:20
I don't think either happens, to be honest.
9:21
It's a hard deal to push through at the best of times, and with an artificial deadline placed on it and the uncertainty of free agency it just seems too difficult right now
Maybe OEL will circle back and let it happen in a few days
Chris
9:21
What's is the latest gossip surrounding Buffalo?  Hard to get a read on what they are thinking despite a rumored internal cap.
Gavin Lee
9:22
New GM Kevyn Adams has been running a tight ship, that's for sure. The Kahun non-tender caught everyone by surprise, as did the Girgensons extension.
Remember that they now have just seven forwards signed for next season
9:23
Sure, Olofsson and Reinhart will get deals and Cozens is coming, but there are still spots available
If you want to take a look at some potential names, make sure to consider the mid-level RWs. Their depth chart on that side drops off considerably after Reinhart.
Still a leaf fan
9:24
I think pietrangelo is out of reach. Where do they go today? Hamonic? Gudas?
Gavin Lee
9:25
We projected Hamonic to land with the Leafs in our Top 50 free agents, but they will likely be in on several of the "tough" names. Dubas has spoken about becoming a tougher team to play against several times, but to me it sounds like he has a certain player in mind, not so much a change in philosophy.
