Hey folks, welcome to the first chat of 2019!
Hope everyone had a nice holiday season.
I'll let some things roll in and get started in a few minutes.

Happy new year Gavin! What does 2019 look like for the ducks? Playoffs? Encouraged by the young guys, Sprong and Aberg? Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:09
Happy New Year to you too Al.
6:10
For the Ducks, I really can't see them making the playoffs unless they get healthy and quickly.
6:11
The recent skid in the standings has actually been more indicative of the way they've played all year, and I don't see that really changing much.
They don't seem to have nearly enough offense this year with Rakell not there to really lead the charge
6:12
As for news on some of their young guns, there is a report floating around that Lundestrom has asked to return to Sweden for the rest of the year now that the WJC is over.
6:13
I know Aberg has been good for them, but it's hard to imagine he's really the answer that can help them to a playoff run.
If they get there, it'll be on the back of John Gibson

Any kings news? Quick being traded? Carter, Toffoli, Muzzin/Martinez? What's the skinny?
Gavin Lee
6:13
I still have a hard time believing that Quick would be traded in-season.
6:14
Or at all, really, but if it's going to happen I would have to think it would be  in the offseason.
Carter would be a tough sell to both sides given his history and contract status
I would be very surprised if one of Muzzin or Martinez isn't traded by the deadline though.
6:15
There's not anything imminent that I'm aware of, but they need to turn the page and start moving in a new direction

You've pointed out (rightly) that it's hard to move a premium goaltender at the deadline, but there a few teams out there that expected to compete but are having rough seasons between the pipes.  Any chance one of those teams will step up for Bobrovsky?
Gavin Lee
6:15
I'm just not sure how it would make sense.
6:16
The Blue Jackets are going to be in the playoffs this year in all likelihood, and trading Bobrovsky would cripple them there.
6:17
They'd want someone that can help them right now in return (not necessarily in net) as well, which is tough for any contender to give up.
Derek
6:18
Whoops.  With the Canadiens in a bit of a grey area with regards to playoffs, do you see them making any significant moves to shore up areas of weakness, specifically on the blueline?
Gavin Lee
6:18
Tough to say what you'd call significant, but I have a hard time believing that they will land an impact defenseman by the deadline.
It's not time to cash in your chips in Montreal.
6:19
Could they add an experienced option to help with an unexpected playoff run? Sure.
Andre
6:19
Do you see islanders making a big trade for impact scoring forward like Mark Stone or Duchene?
Gavin Lee
6:19
You know, I would have told you no way at one point this season.
6:20
But the more they keep themselves in the picture near the top of the Metro the more I tend to think they'll spend a little at the deadline.
Who knows if it will be Stone or Duchene, but adding some punch up front is definitely a possibility.
6:21
They had a scout at the Toronto-Minnesota game today--though that often means nothing at all.
Teal
6:21
Do the sharks have a chance of keeping Karlsson and Pavelski?
Gavin Lee
6:21
They definitely have a chance.
6:22
Remember, Karlsson can't sign an eight-year extension with San Jose until after the trade deadline.
So hearing nothing so far isn't necessarily a bad thing
Doug Wilson doesn't trade for rentals without at least some interest in extending them.
6:23
Now the question of SHOULD they keep Karlsson and Pavelski is a very different one..
Joe
6:23
Who will have the most cap next year
Gavin Lee
6:24
The most cap space?
The Devils, probably.
Carolina has to give Aho a big extension
